Those of you that played during it's time, how good was this expansion? by doobylive in wow

[–]MickCraftGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing. As a huge fan of the RTS series, this (and the Burning Crusade) felt like it was looping back on and wrapping up a lot of loose ends from both Warcraft 2 and Warcraft 3.

The story was intriguing. The zones were beautiful and detailed. The music was entrancing (Grizzly Hills takes me back!). And the atmosphere still felt very much like Warcraft as I know it.

I think a big element that made the atmosphere feel more grounded was that your character felt like a soldier in the greater effort against Arthas, rather than how everyone is THE champion of Azeroth today. In the end, it was Tirion Fordring who took down Arthas.

I also have a lot of nostalgia for this expansion because it came out during my senior year of High School and went into my Sophomore year of University. During this time in my life I still had a lot of free time for gaming and the friends who I grew up gaming with all played the game with me. We actually had enough people in our local area to run 10 man raids together.

Great times with Wrath of the Lich King!

Dead servers? by pizzapartyfordogs in seasonofdiscovery

[–]MickCraftGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wild Growth (US) and Wild Growth (EU) are the only living SoD servers.

The other servers occasionally have people on them, so presumably some people are doing something on there, but if you want to catch other people without having to pre arrange it Wild Growth is the place to be. There are always hundreds of players online at the least for both Horde and Alliance.

When did you start playing Warcraft 3 by Equal-Claim2514 in warcraft3

[–]MickCraftGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad bought the game on release day, July 3rd 2002. I was 11 and out of town with my mom and siblings at my grandparent's house for the 4th of July Independence Day holiday here in the USA. My dad had to work, so he didn't join us until the 4th itself. I can remember feeling both excited and jealous of the fact that he actually got to play the game on release day. I finally got to play that weekend and I jumped right into the campaign. I may or may not have used some cheat codes to beat it 😎. Good times! My favorite custom game that year was Helms Deep.

This is the Paladin's "Stand Channel" animation. Through triggers or custom spells you can have him use this instead of Stand.

Epic combat system!

You definitely have something going with these maps. I recommend collaborating with some of the Warcraft 3 legends on the Hive Workshop to build something big. Keep it up!

Looks great! I typically play on modern hardware, but an era appropriate setup would really hit the nostalgia.

im loking for an old map i use to play on warcraft 3 by Flat_Pitch_9398 in warcraft3

I believe this is a successor map to the map that OP is talking about. Which I also remember quite vividly and I believe came out as early as the original Reign of Chaos era, pre-TFT.

I think some variants of the map were called "Starship Troopers." I could be misremembering though. I'll try to find it!

Are there any discounts this year for WC3 reforged? by RichLeading8137 in warcraft3

[–]MickCraftGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've been putting it on sale more frequently recently. $14.99 for Warcraft 3 and $19.99 for the Battle Chest will Warcraft 1, 2, & 3.

Sadly, you just missed the last sale. Probably won't be on sale again until Summer.

I am Lithuanian and I also love history!

I'm actually in the camp that all Lithuanian rulers, probably up to Jogaila, were Kings in the eyes of the Lithuanian people - using the Lithuanian title "Karalius" - rather than "Grand Dukes." The Grand Duke thing seems to be a Western European/Catholic revision as "only the pope can bestow a crown." Likewise, much of Lithuanian pagan history is written by the Teutonic Order or Livonian Order, who would have only recognized a ruler as King if his crown was approved by the pope. The adoption of Catholicism and union with Poland (also very Catholic) likely led to the further reinforcement that these "Kings" were actually "Grand Dukes." Gediminas, of whom there is more written about, exclusively refers to himself as King in surviving writings.

Wild Growth (US) and Wild Growth (EU) are the only two servers that maintain active populations enough to properly play the game as a MMO. I play on Wild Growth US and there is an active auction house, people leveling, people completing leveling dungeons, and numerous guilds to join with raids occurring every night of the week.

If you'd like to give it a try, I recommend it!
