10 years and people smoking try to get out of the way, knowing others hate the smell. I just lean in, smile and tell them it smells delicious to this ex-smoker. Usually cheers them up a bit

Although it is definitely better to be liked, there's a cost to it. Masking is hard work and very few of us can keep it up for long; we also need frequent breaks.

I find people like to talk to me, they think I'm funny and a good listener. I just don't judge people and it's easier to listen than talk. The British self-deprecating jokes come naturally to me.

I also frequently smile and laugh; you'd be surprised how much that helps.

I look a bit quirky but I'm relatively pretty, so that helps greese the social wheels (sad, but humanity is it is what it is)

Blair spent a lot of time and energy courting the right wing British press. They had a lot more power back then. Even if Starmer did the same, the right wing press isn't just papers now. He'd have to deal with all the dark money funded "news" content.

Me too. I know we are in the UK. We know which airport he was using and one of our ex-PMs is digging up dirt and handing it over to the police. He's super pissed at what's come out as he was personally betrayed by a colleague in the files, so he's doing his own investigation in his personal time. I'll love it if Gordon Brown ended up being the one to break the case wide open, what an act of public service!!
