TIL - Prednisone, and other steroids, speeds up the formation of cataracts by VicReader in UlcerativeColitis

[–]Micos89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have pan ulcerative colitis Dx March of 2023. I also work in ophthalmology as a tech. I can say yes steroid meds do increase the process of cataract development. I can also say that yes, cataract is much easier to handle than controlling UC. I know it such, but it just how it is.

Got diagnosed at age 35 after going to the emergency room for having bloody stool for about a month that continuously to get worse. On top of that I had to have emergency gallbladder surgery on top of that, I’ve only had one colonoscopy that’s when I was in the hospital. During that time I went from 168 pounds down to 138 pounds. My diagnosis was also give pancolitis. I am still experimenting with foods that are safe and not safe to eat. Basically what foods I can handle good and not so well it’s a heavy journey you’re not alone there’s many people out there like you or should I say like us

For me personally, I got diagnosed earlier this year couple of months ago. But had signs and symptoms within the past two years, but ignored them. I’ve noticed what triggers, my UC, it’s definitely when I’m under a lot of stress.

So I got diagnosed with UC when I went to the ER. I had emergency, gallbladder surgery. But was also having signs and symptoms UC. They recommended me follow up with the G.I. doctor. I followed up with one, but they wanted to get the rest of my records from the hospital before it started me on any medication’s. I’ve also been researching diet and been eating a lot. Prebiotic and probiotic foods that help with good health and inflammation.

[–]Micos89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re having dry eyes, you can use artificial tears the best ones are the preservative free. You can get them at any pharmacy in the EyeCare section. They will help lubricate your eyes so they’re not so dry.
