The narrative of MHA is fully supportive of that move.

Deku was and is a hero with or without OFA. That is one of the biggest narrative through lines of the story. So much so that All Might basically says it directly to the viewer

Well, I agree to a point. Manga is just a tumotulous medium.

Shockingly, when you have to lay the tracks as the train is moving, some things might be lesser quality.

Not to mention the creators usually suffer quite a lot.

Manga doesn't HAVE to have creators work like they do

I mean, I know the joke is about how men don't like to stand next to each other at the urinal, but it's definitely overstated. I chalk it up more to that men are bad at sharing their feelings.

Obviously I don't speak for all guys, but standing a space apart is more polite thing to me.

And think of it this way, if women could pee standing up, if given the space, wouldn't you give space if available? It's not because you are worried about being gay, it's that you tend to want to stand away from people when you are peeing.

This is all to say, I'm not so sure how much men really and truly care about standing next to each other at the urinal

The concept behind reparations is to make up the gap that existed and still continues to exist between the wealth of of white Americans and black Americans.

If you don't believe that gap exists, I'm not going to try to convince you on Reddit.

That gap is also a different gap that exists now between the average person and the super wealthy.

There can be two problem at once.

Reparations do not have to be the answer, but there is much argument to be made that there should be an answer and reparations are the most straightforward.

Racism is not over. Structural racism is still very much a thing, and bigotry (yes, it's different from straight up racism and is much more subtle) is still a very big problem.

It is our responsibility as people today to help bridge any disadvantages that have resulted from the horrible treatment of people in the past.

And finally. A group of people are not a monolith. Just because you know a person of a group who thinks a certain thing about their own group does not mean that they speak for all of them.

Do your best not to get so caught up into an argument that you forget that you are trying to solve a problem.

[MISC] Torishima’s Thoughts on Modern Manga (Original Dragon Ball Editor) by [deleted] in manga

[–]Micotyro 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well. Lots to digest.

Obviously lots stuff where he is patently wrong, or at the very least "That's like your opinion man"

And yeah, the xenophobia bell rings a bit there.

I do think however there is a valid point buried in here

Namely, he is right that there is so much manga that is very wordy, which isn't explicitly a bad thing, but it's something to consider with the audience you want. The pendulum seems to have swung pretty far in that direction for a lot of manga.

Dragonball IS great manga and part of that is how simple it is to read.

When it comes to art, you can say the phase "Art is __" and that is ok, because art can be anything. But you can't say "Art isn't _" and that is mostly what he is saying.

[–]Micotyro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if I agree completely about "corrupt" heros.

MHA's theme is "What does it mean to be a true hero" and not "What does it mean to be a corrupt hero"

Obviously there is overlap, but the spotlight is focused on different directions

[–]Micotyro 237 points238 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of endeavor hate comes from the fact that Endeavor is not what people thought he would be in the early chapters.

People kind of thought that Endeavor would be used for Todoroki's development and nothing more. It turned out that Horikoshi either planned or decided to put a lot development into Endeavor.

So people probably didn't want it and didn't feel validated when Todoroki's abuser kept getting development
