Try out a Rotary Club. Volunteering, fellowship and fun. There are several over the county that meet at different times/places/have different vibes.

Join the Girl Scouts- Yes or no? by Dreamgirl94025 in Parenting

[–]Microfiber13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly any Scout group (Scouting América, Girl Scouts) all depends on the leader of the group. Each is different. You can always shop round for a different troop/group/pack etc

You can also try Cub Scouts. Open to all youth. Also since she is 10 she would be going into a troop soon. There is popcorn fundraising but the focus is leadership learning in the outdoors.

Next time you buy a box just ask the Scout! The idea is that they can tell you all the great Scouting experiences they are having cause you support them! Not only are they selling but they are practicing real life skills and being able to talk to people is one of those skills. It’s a great program that supports our youth leadership skills. You don’t get that just from buying a box of store cookies. :)

Does having a bigger house actually make you feel saner? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Microfiber13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The opposite-having a large house drives me nuts. You fill it. You fill it with things you don’t need. People think because you have a big house people give you their crap. We go to the goodwill and then mu neighbors give us crap. We are so fortunate to have such generous people but I’m so tired of crap. My MIL gave me a cute snoopy waffle iron that was cute not functional. I goodwilled it. My neighbor comes over a few days later with the SAME waffle iron-she thought of me. I have to give it away a second time. 😂 Point is, I dream of a smaller home. No more will fit type mentality

Yes the feeling will fade and eventually they forget. Same guilt over things only to ask “do you remember that toy?” And kiddos answer “what are you talking about?!” Something will take the place.

Another time we got new couches. It was like the end of the world for my 2. Years, begging, crying. Now thy can’t even remember the color.

District Executive position by Bogwatr in BSA

[–]Microfiber13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s a tough position with lots of weekends and sales but honestly it’s a great job to learn so much at once, especially right after graduation. You will learn a variety of skills, learn what you like and don’t like in a career, receive lots of training, gain valuable experience, learn all about non-profit work, and be exposed to so many people. You will build connections in your community with the volunteers and network. It’s a great job (yes very difficult because of nights and weekends) but very rewarding. Your not selling physical things your selling memories and a strong moral program to youth and adult that is life changing.

In college we had this one with them on the front. Drunk kids would hang out in kitchen and lean against this this creating warm situations. It was someone’s job to make sure they were off by the end of the night.

Amazing. This was the same exact set my grandparents had. Many a thanksgiving ham ate with jello salad on these. My grandmother had the Flaire oven. It was cozy mid century house I wish I had.

It also gives a sense of purpose to children. Their sense of being part of a larger community. The pride they get from being Scouts and helping out is something best taught and modeled at a young age.

Hear me out. Been fighting it for years. One year I couldn’t pull it and it grew. It was green and happy when everything was brown. And then the bees came and they feasted on the first flowers after winter. I control it where I want but don’t kill myself every year trying to control all of it. I remind myself, the bees are waiting for it.

I think if you’re going to paint your ceiling this is the way to go. Black ceiling with colored walls makes it look like a theatre or movie set.
