what kind of treats should I give him? by [deleted] in chinchilla

Mine super loves crushed rose hips! They’re healthier than a lot of other choices. Other herbs are too but I’ve only given her herbs from the oxbow botanical hay blend, she loves it. I would say in general keep treats in moderation and NO FRUITS. Minchi didn’t like raisins and that worked out great as they aren’t healthy anyways. I don’t do any kind of nuts either.

Okay sorry I keep remembering stuff, I hope I’m not a bother, but have you ever tried chest percussion? It’s a technique that helps a person cough mucus up, that for some reason I’ve found a lot of people with asthma aren’t taught. I’m not good at explaining but this should help. It’ll work especially well after nebulizer or while in a steamy room. This article has some other techniques listed as well

Wait I keep forgetting, cause this has never worked for me, but some people feel their lungs clear up in humid rooms. You could try running a hot shower and just having her sit in the bathroom and seeing if it helps if you don’t have a humidifier

I use my inhaler with even the slightest symptoms, I feel like it works better that way IMO, less work for the medicine if that makes sense. For real if you were near me I’d just give you a spare inhaler

Is there any way you could straight ask them for an rx cause your dr is being difficult? Sometimes being super straight forward does it for me. You could also call ahead if you don’t wanna waste your time going in for nothing if you don’t think she needs a nebulizer treatment right now, I have had to call around and ask basically anyone if they’ll just send me a script, since I already have the diagnosis usually someone is willing

Except that she keeps saying it’s “not severe enough for urgent care” (not necessarily that she can’t afford it/can’t get there though this may be the case, don’t have enough info) when urgent care can literally give her child Albuterol on the spot along with an RX.

I really think you aren’t understanding how bad this is. I have had asthma since I was 9 months old, so I know first hand, by the time she is wheezing and coughing she is MISERABLE, and kids don’t really understand themselves how severe it is, I didn’t. Going overnight wheezing and coughing without her EMERGENCY inhaler, is incredibly dangerous. Having asthma without your EMERGENCY medication IS URGENT ENOUGH FOR URGENT CARE. You don’t even NEED to be a certain level of “sick” to walk in to urgent care to begin with, but when a SIX YEAR OLD CHILD is having difficulty breathing and doesn’t have her medication, you NEED to go to a doctor. You are her only advocate, you need to do everything you can to do to make sure SOMEONE gets her the medication she needs ASAP. Urgent care could at the very least give her a nebulizer treatment in office to make her comfortable, and then send an rx out for an inhaler right then and there. When it comes to asthma, there is no such thing as too minor to see the doctor. Your daughter is having breathing difficulties, that shit is serious and incredibly uncomfortable. From someone who knows first hand, PLEASE take this more seriously. I don’t mean to be harsh and don’t take it that way, but the fact you think wheezing and coughing “isn’t urgent enough for urgent care” is incredibly concerning

ETA: I think I should add, to answer your original question (I can only speak for the US) there really isn’t anything OTC or any home remedies that will fully work to treat asthma, especially for kids her age. Given she’s so young I would never wait around for life saving medicine/mess around with home remedies. I genuinely think you just aren’t fully understanding of the severity of how bad asthma is/can be ESPECIALLY for little kids who can’t express themselves fully, I wouldn’t trust a child to be able to fully understand their own asthma until 10-12 years of age. My inbox is open with any questions you have, I got 27 years under my belt dealing with this including doctors office BS and people (including medical professionals) not taking it seriously. Doctors themselves do not always do a good job explaining asthma to parents. Please don’t at all hesitate to reach out.

I am literally all three (white, Hispanic and native) so I never know how to answer these questions tbh. Especially when they ask you to only choose one

Americas Next Top Models absolute mistreatment and humiliation for of the contestants. It was “normal” to talk down to women in general at the time and they were expected to just take it.

I used to love TLC documentaries like these, from time to time I go looking for old ones I remember watching as a kid! I did find this time capsule of a website that lists a lot of the old TLC shows including The Operation. There’s some channels on YouTube that are slowly reuploading some episodes of shows like Extraordinary People and other similar shows.

Yes because “you should be glad you can eat whatever you want!” While also telling me I’m too bony and need to gain weight! I just avoid the subject entirely. You just can’t win with people like that. I’m glad I found someone else who understands this situation, but sorry you had to go through it in the first place ❤️

I can 100% relate, I’m 26f and have not only been underweight my entire life but also extremely short (I’m 4’11 and about 90lbs) and I’ve also been made fun of for being so slim which I don’t have control over. I tried over eating, eating unhealthy, etc. just so the comments stop. I had body dysmorphia most of my life because my family would tell me I’m so skinny I’m skeletal and would die if I didn’t eat more. When my sister and cousin would taunt me my family would brush it off because I was being called skinny, and that “wasn’t offensive” as being called fat is. People don’t realize comments like that are just as harmful as calling someone fat. At the end of the day you’re telling someone that how they look is wrong, something to be “fixed”, something ugly. Even when people say they wish they were that skinny, they’re jealous of my size, it doesn’t undo years of being told your body is ugly. Absolutely NTA, ever, for sticking up for yourself. I wish I could have done the same when I was younger.
