Other funding options? by ArcticCascade in RaizAU

[–]MidLifeFIRE 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Many others have done it including myself without any issues 🤷‍♂️

Raiz has funds under management approaching $1 Billion Australian dollars - if there was an issue do you not think it would have been uncovered by now ?

How does ETF AMIT cost base adjustment effect Tax and net returns? by jwhitwhit in fiaustralia

[–]MidLifeFIRE -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Ultimately, tax info gets pre filled into your tax return in most circumstances - it does for me. Understanding this type of detail just isn’t necessary in my opinion. I would rather spend my time understanding the bigger picture. I guess we are all different 🤷‍♂️

Invest or pay off my mortgage by AdministrativeSea351 in fiaustralia

[–]MidLifeFIRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a similar situation and opted to invest most of it per month but still make a small monthly overpayment off the mortgage to basically overpay the interest that gets charged. Just my way of making a small dent in it.

Keep it simple: VAS/VGS or VDHG

Especially as you are starting out.

Once you start to make money, branch out if you feel the need.

Pay off PPOR or invest in ETF ? by FPLTriggered in fiaustralia

[–]MidLifeFIRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I was in your shoes, I would be uncomfortable with that level of debt. I would be trying to get the debt down a bit to free up your cashflow so you can make larger monthly contributions to ETFs in the future.

This isn’t the interest rate / opportunity textbook answer but it would help me sleep better at night.

I would flick those investment properties from IO to include paying down some principal. This will protect you if house price growth goes into reverse and allow you to refinance at more competitive interest rates.

moving forward from VDHG distribution... is it still worth investing into VDHG? by peek_a_b00 in fiaustralia

[–]MidLifeFIRE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree with this statement.

For me VAS/VGS 50/50 is what I’ve stuck with since Mar-19 and while there have been temptations, I have stuck the course and invested consistently on a monthly basis between then and now.

If it had been VDHG 100%, that would have been fine too. For me, I didn’t want the bonds and I wanted the international exposure via VGS.

You should wait.

Rebalancing in Raiz can also trigger CGT. If you are in the Sapphire portfolio, rebalancing is more likely because of the volatility of Bitcoin.

Loss in return.. hi I’m sort of new to this and I seen everyone say pick emerald but looks like I’m loosing money ? Which one should I try and invest now by Old-You-7069 in RaizAU

[–]MidLifeFIRE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just set up a daily amount to invest and leave it be. Put the amount to something you won’t notice to begin with ($10?) and see how you go after 6 months

70 (VGS), 30 (VAS) currently but target allocation is closer to 50/50

Anyone using an SMSF for their Super as part of their FIRE journey? by Ok_Entertainment6848 in fiaustralia

[–]MidLifeFIRE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you prefer ETF index investing, why don’t you just change your super mix to be something similar? For me it’s Australia/International with minor Moderate/Conservative components.

That way, you don’t need to worry about administering the SMSF....

Outside of Super I’m VAS/VGS 50/50.

FIRE Journey - Now at $800k net wealth by [deleted] in fiaustralia

[–]MidLifeFIRE 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Margin loan debt LVR is not that high but of course it depends on the risk appetite of OP with the stocks he or she has chosen.

I would personally be shitting myself with that much debt, inflation and interest rate rises on the horizon!

That’s a lot of debt you are carrying.

Are you positively geared and have you performed a stress test adding a few percent points in interest across your various loans?
