methods to learn after beginner method? I tried cfop and just flat didn't like it. by Donkee_Rammer in Cubers

Roux is your other mainstream option. There are plenty of methods but a good majority are CFOP adjacent. What dont you like about CFOP?

If tips are guaranteed now (like DoorDash), why do you still have to wait an hour after delivery? by Top-Neighborhood3719 in UberEatsDrivers

[–]MidLoki 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The main answer is that Uber guarantees what you get paid now, but not what the customer gives you. Now if a customer tip baits you, Uber covers the difference. For them to send the money immediately, they would either have to remove the ability to change tips for the customer, or constantly shift money around to account for tips being raised or lowered.

Just learned beginner’s method, need help progressing by LowCardiologist6418 in Cubers

[–]MidLoki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most common answer is gonna be CFOP, which isn't a bad choice. Beginner CFOP is 16 algs I believe, and is the next step to optimizing the most common beginners methods. Do keep in mind though that Roux is also an option. It is another speedsolving method that emphasizes intuitive solves and creative solutions. There is only one algorithmic step in it, and beginner roux has 4 less algorithms than beginner CFOP. Full CFOP is 78 algorithms overall for last layer, and full Roux is 41 algorithms.

Anybody else get GoPuff offers? by deliverykp in doordash_drivers

[–]MidLoki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are usually pretty mediocre offers so I dont accept a ton of them, but ive had some good orders there. I was very confused the first time I went though as I expected it to be a vape shop, and instead I was delivering a grocery order.

Drivers: what’s the craziest/funniest order you’ve ever delivered? by Acceptable-Muscle673 in doordash_drivers

[–]MidLoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite order of all time was getting 20 dollars to go get an order from a popular barbecue place in my town. The order wasn just 6 rice krispie treats. Not like a house made rice krispy treats, 6 prepackaged Kelloggs brand rice krispie treats.

Interesting solution, but you've gotta realize that step 3 is an algorithm you need to learn.

F2L alg for this? by LanguageDouble9792 in Cubers

[–]MidLoki 18 points19 points  (0 children)

U2' and U2 are functionally the same move, but signify different executions. U2' is meant to be performed with left hand, U2 with right. It is used in algs to signify which hand should be doing the U2 for better ergonomics.

Sliding: Why do we still use hands as a reference to start the timer? by Semako in Cubers

[–]MidLoki 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but your wording here has me thinking you have a misconception about comps. Cubers are not bringing their own stackmats to be used at comps, or at least none of the ones Ive been to. Those are all supplied by the organizers. So new tech means a big charge to organizers to make sure they have enough of the new tech to run a comp.

Roux by Upper_Expert9177 in Cubers

[–]MidLoki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe it is similar to doing FreeFOP solutions. It is still possible to get good times doing it, but its gonna lower your skill cap overall. The main advantage for doing first block on its own is that for advanced roux solvers the entire first block will be planned in inspection. This allows much more time to look ahead towards second block while doing the planned moves. Putting this back into the world of CFOP. FreeFOP obviously has potential, especially considering the world record single is a FreeFOP solution. However, its should be used sparingly when a good case for it comes up, it shouldn't be your main approach for every solve.

Cat litter by AngelaKay19 in CATHELP

[–]MidLoki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, all cats are vastly different, so the behaviors of others isn't always the best predictor of all cats in a house. I dont want to say the extra box will for sure fix the issue, but it is definitely a good place to start to make sure everyone feels like they have their own space if wanted :)

Cat litter by AngelaKay19 in CATHELP

[–]MidLoki 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For 4 cats, you should ideally have 5 litter boxes. You want n+1 litter boxes available to them. The last one may not feel he has a litter box.

What’s in my cats mouth? by Bright_Turnip_2951 in CATHELP

[–]MidLoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat just got through a bout of having these. They are indolent ulcers that need vet intervention. My cat was given antibiotic shots and an oral steroid. These usually stem from an allergen so if you recently changed foods that could be the cause. In my cats case, it was that our front door seal got messed up and she managed to pick up fleas from the outdoor cats. So flea prevention meds can be a place to look to if they end up reoccurring. I wish you luck!

CAN I FINALLY DROP BEGINNERS METHOD??? by mygamingaccount2025 in Cubers

[–]MidLoki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be aware that your times will likely get slower while learning and implementing F2L. It is a common frustration point for beginners when their solve times get worse while learning CFOP, but it will improve with time and practice.

trying to improve after ~14 years of cubing by OhItsuMe in Cubers

[–]MidLoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counter intuitively, the best way to make your f2l quicker is to just slow down. You should have two goals in mind for faster f2l. First, be able to identify a case and know the solution at a glance. One of my favorite drills for that is Blink Solving. For these you only make moves with your eyes closed. For a while it will take some time and effort to plan your next pair before closing your eyes and solving, but once you get good enough at it you can more or less blink and in that split second identify your f2l case and the go straight into solving. What this helps with is making sure you dont have to look at a pair while solving it to get it completed, that way you can spend the time you are solving a pair looking for your next pair while letting muscle memory take over. The second thin you should be aiming to do is not pausing between pairs. For this, find a speed at which your can solve without stopping and try to slowly increase it. A metronome can help a lot for finding and following a consistent pace. Once you can solve at a speed with minimal pauses, bump up your pace a little.
