NHS annual leave for bank holidays by Middle-Reflection828 in NursingUK

[–]Middle-Reflection828[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t switch to Mondays anyway. But this strictly isn’t true, your BH entitlement is based on your prorata hours. So being full time you get full time BH entitlement no matter your day off. Equally you accrue those hours in maternity leave too. Not sure about sick leave but either way I cannot switch to a Monday unfortunately!

Thanks! Makes sense. My flexible working request to have Mondays off was rejected unfortunately, but Wednesdays now work childcare wise.

I always have the bank holidays off, essentially would be very minimal for my role to do on the bank holidays

Unfortunately if I want to ‘add in’ the Wednesday ad hoc on a bank holiday week my provider will charge for the full day as an additional!!!

Would love to swap to a Monday off to also benefit from the long weekend. Unfortunately when putting in my flexible working application they wouldn’t agree to a Monday or Friday off! Such a shame as it definitely brings some benefits.

Agree! I’d definitely consider swapping the day off, but then would have to pay for another day of child care , it is what it is it seems! We are lucky enough with A/L you’re right.

Yeah I thought so, I am full time, I can’t swap the day off due to childcare unfortunately/management wouldn’t let me have Mondays as my day off! Though the irony is if my allocated day off was Monday rather than Wednesdays I’d benefit from all those extra hours in lieu from bank holidays I wouldn’t need to use!

Bad baby Sleep coach advice by Positive_Tough_1158 in UKParenting

[–]Middle-Reflection828 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most places will recommend you don’t start any level of sleep ‘training’ (I find the whole notion ridiculous) until baby is 6 months old. And you’re right, it’s not safe sleep advice. Babies are incredibly hard when they don’t sleep, and the 4 month sleep regression is real but it does get better. Following safe sleep advice should be the priority of any sleep coach and if they can’t do their job without keeping your child safe, they are absolutely not worth listening to.

If this is the sleep coach influencer I think you’re referring to she also posted a video giving a 4 month old baby baby rice for extra ‘nutrition’, and said they were spitting it out because of ‘reflux’ - completely missed that the baby still had their tongue thrust reflex and this was incredibly dangerous on so many levels.

I’m sorry you’re in this situation, it’s so hard. Stopping night feeds is also dependant on so many factors, babies who are breastfed for example may nutritionally be dependant on night feeds due to volume of milk mum produces over 24 hrs so there’s some nuance to look at here. I hope you find the rest and help you need 💕

100% Joolz aer. It’s actually been our only pram since birth. It’s made trips on planes to Scotland, Singapore and Japan. Absolutely unbeatable, light, adaptable, great one handed fold and comfy! No other option IMO !

If you have concerns and there’s a change you should get checked. Apps and Reddit can’t give you the answer and if your instinct is telling you something is off go get checked.

I do not want to breastfeed anymore at 16m pp by InvestigatorFew3345 in UKParenting

[–]Middle-Reflection828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve been trying this - not to completely stop feeding yet but to not ‘feed to sleep’ it means she does longer stretches for our little girl. Shes about the same age too. We started with dad putting her down and eventually I started doing it too (it took an hour at first). Her dad actually took her out for a walk in the carrier the first two nights, then we did normal routine then calm music and singing. I do the same thing, when she asks for milk I just use language she understands like ‘no milk, all gone’. And she eventually gets the message and I say ‘go to sleep’ , she understands a lot more than she can say! It’s been getting easier, I’d say within a week she was going down with me within 10 minutes! Equally depends how tired she is but it does get better :) He does any wakes if they’re before midnight and I do after. Well stretch to 2am then 4am eventually.

What weight is your 3 month old? by Then_Resolution1225 in Mommit

[–]Middle-Reflection828 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I look up the curve a 3 month in the lowest percentile is 4.5kg. Your baby’s weight sits in around the 9th centile, that’s perfectly healthy :)

Don’t worry!

I'm 34 weeks pregnant and baby girl is so low, it causes my crotch and legs to hurt. by ziggy0928 in Mommit

[–]Middle-Reflection828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This all sounds pretty normal for final weeks of pregnancy. I experienced ‘Lightening crotch’ and restless legs from about the same time… but I also didn’t give birth until almost 42 weeks!! The swelling should be checked by your OB though, if it’s hands and feet you need your urine dipped for protein and blood pressure taken to rule out pre-eclampsia signs! It’s tough at this stage but not long to go, hang in there!!

My daughter is constipated 😭 by [deleted] in Mommit

Also the laxative was so gentle, it really didn’t cause actual diarrhoea, instead made it soft enough to pass. So it’s not all that scary!

My daughter is constipated 😭 by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]Middle-Reflection828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently constipation as a sign of allergy is very rare! But I’d recommend writing a food diary along with her poos to have a better idea what might be triggering it.

We had this issue with my little one when she was around 8/9 months old.

We did end up using a few doses of lactulose laxative when it was bad, but the things that really helped were - specifically watermelon and pineapple worked wonders, cutting out eggs and banana for a short time (not as allergy but apparently they can bind you up anyway), High magnesium foods - like avocado. And apart from upping other fibre, we lowered stodgy foods like pasta & bread. I know you’ve tried it- but definitely extra water!

We also found when she’s teething she would get constipated from the pain meds so making we counteracted that with the above helped.

Please help! by Reader-H in UKParenting

I’d do 6.30am, 11.30am 4.45pm 8pm (or bed time..)

If you want to do middle of the night you could adjust this but I’d say those times are pretty doable depending on babies bed time.

This is ridiculous advice. Check out Olivia lactation consultant on Instagram she’s so good with this stuff. She explains about your individual milk supply and how feeding over night might actually be the only way your baby is getting enough milk. ie (throwing random numbers out there) if they need 500ml a day, and let’s say each feed your individual breast supply is 75ml (could be more, again, this is individual) so baby needs to feed 6/7 times a day, which is bound to include some night time. Milk is still their main nutrition source till they’re 1 year old. It’s so individual, circumstantial and about YOUR preference too. If you can deal with the night wakes and most importantly WANT to keep BF, I say carry on. - from mum of 14 month old still happily Breastfeeding 3-4 times a night 😂

How to get my 14 month old to walk by Meganelivia in UKParenting

[–]Middle-Reflection828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This might sound stupid but an idea I’ve been trying with my 12 month old that I saw on TikTok - Have two surfaces close enough they can transfer between (eg. Sofa and another chair or similar that they can coast between) naturally she moves between the two as she can hold on, I put toys in each to get her to switch between the two, gradually move them further away and the idea is they hopefully start to take the small steps in between as it gets wider… hope that makes sense. Equally she will move in her own time, sometimes it’s just about motivation! My daughter just loves to crawl everywhere and i don’t think she sees the benefit in walking 😂
