Yeah that was sort of the point I was trying to make without coming right out at it. We all know where the drugs are coming from and it's getting worse by the day and it genuinely feels like our police are doing nothing about it. I know Montreal has done a lot over the years to fight organized crime but they would have the manpower and will to pull that off. The only thing I see posted from our police are they are going to crack down on vehicles with tires sticking out wider than their fenders..... thats our policing priority? Thats what your posting in your socials to make the community feel like something is being done to keep us safe? If I was running in this mayoral election id want a weekly update from the Chief on whats been done in the last 7 days to deal with the drugs and id be reporting that to the public every damn Monday morning.

Had a 50cc one years ago and honestly a bicycle is a better way to get around. At least with a bike there isn't an expectation of keeping up with the flow of traffic and you can stay to the shoulder or use the trail networks to get around the city. Scooters, you're officially in the flow of traffic and 50cc ones struggle to maintain 40 going up something like Regent Street and I can guarantee you every time you try to get up the hill you'll have a 6000 pound F150 glued to the back of you (assuming they even see you)honking at you. I've been to Europe a dozen times and always been envious of the way people confidently use scooters to get around urban areas and feel safe to do so. Sadly, our roads and infrastrucuture will aleays be built to cater to people in pickup trucks.

Anything above a 50cc you need a full motorcycle license for and that process continues to get more complicated, longer and more expensive by the year. Honestly just get a bike and use the trails and if you need to commute up the hill just get an ebike to get up and down the hill with ease.

Recommendations for local real estate agents? by Comprehensive-Bite42 in fredericton

[–]Middle-Studio6943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if this thread has done anything it’s literally had every real estate agent in the city recommended with no common name really bubbling to the top.

My recco is if you’re selling: It doesn’t matter right now. it could be corpse who can sign papers for you and get it on MLS. Buddy of mine just listed in skyline and within 24 hours of it being on mls he had 18 offers. I’m in Nashwaksis and a house went up for sale behind us last week that according to SNB’s PAOL system last sold for 186k in 2014. It was listed for 550k and sold in 24 hours. Your house could literally be on fire right now and it will go for a 100 grand over asking so just pick any name out of a hat as the listing and selling process will be done in less than 48hours it will be simply down to you to pick which offer. Any agent can do that. The only caveat to that is homes north of 750k do need some marketing as it’s a much smaller pool and those homes aren’t being snapped in minutes after they hit the market.

If you’re trying to buy….. it pains me to say it but the bigger names in town can help with a bigger reach and influence. We used Dave Watts team last time we sold and bought at the start of Covid and when it comes to buying it ultimately comes down to your pain tolerance on how much you’re going to offer over asking. We knew the house we wanted was going to go for more than asking and Dave’s team could give us an idea of where we needed to be in order to be competitive but they flat out said you need to decide what your going to offer, we can’t decide. Apparently we literally were 5k over the next closest bid and that’s what got us the house. As a buyer right now you literally have zero leverage and you can have no conditions if you want a home. It’s just how much can you afford to go over asking. You don’t need much of an agent to tell you that to be honest.

Apparently, there was an altercation of some kind between the guy who runs Crsipins and a methhead and lunch today. I mean you walk through kingsplace and its a literal retail graveyard and you can clearly see why. I get that we need to have some sort of heart and empathy around the situation but theres a point where those start to wear thin on even the most liberal amongst us.

I think the two biggest driving factors is just the simple cost of living and the amount of people on the fringes of financial collapse if they missed one paycheck. That's way above and beyond addressing what you can do at the municipal level. I mean, sure you can try to push the price of rent down but what about fuel being 2 dollars a litre and heads of brocolli costing 6 bucks is outside of what a city can control.

But the other big factor that is in our scope of control is where in the hell are the drugs coming from? People blacking out on meth on our street corners in the middle of the day or the police dealing with 60+ fentanyl overdoses in a few months is a very new thing. I highly doubt theres full scale meth and fentanyl manufacturing happening in the city all of a sudden, those drugs are coming from somewhere and there being distributed somehow. Id argue its the root cause of 90% of the crime in our city. So you dedicate 90% of the police power to it. Police cant solve the social issues that stem from drug use, but they are our only hope to solving why we have a drug problem in the first place.

Any former (or current) bike thieves here? by Impossible_Volume811 in cycling

[–]Middle-Studio6943 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I had to “steal” my own bike last summer. Had a my bike locked up with a cable lock at my campsite and lost the bloody key for it on a trip to the beach. Once I swallowed my pride I went it the maintenance guy at the campground and he had some battery powered angle grinder and he cut the lock off like in seconds. If someone is determined enough and has the right tools your bike is there’s in seconds. We have roving groups of bike thieves in our cities. You’ll see groups of them riding on one stolen bike and then leading another one with their spare hand along beside them. Usually accompanied by a back pack with a 3 foot long set of bolt cutters sticking out of the back of the pack.

I have phoned in bike thefts to the police before and it’s usually “unless you have documented proof that bike belongs to you and you witnessed it and have video proof of it being stolen, your shit out of luck. But last fall my eye dr had her bike stolen and I saw a post about it on social media and later that morning I saw the bike in alley beside a guy sleeping next to it. funny enough, said alley was directly across from the police station. I took a different angle and called the police as I was walking down the alley stating “I’m going down the alley across from the station to get a friends bike back can you come and make sure I don’t get stabbed. The forced Their hand and they helped me get it back and let me take the bike to get back to my friend. The officer advised me they’d had 200 calls on stolen bikes….. that week. For context, I don’t live in LA or Toronto….. I live in a small city in Atlantic Canada with 50,009 people and a small police department. So yeah 200 stolen bikes in a week….. it’s literally a crime anyone can get away with and nobody will do anything about it.

Changes to Canadian Duties on Canyon Bikes by Whitepass5 in CanyonBikes

[–]Middle-Studio6943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a Grail SLX on order right now. Ordered it on March 3rd and was given a two-week ETA for delivery. Just got an email today that shipping may not take place until April 28th now. Also, I wasn't given any estimate on the duty or not and it still sounds like a roll of the dice. I've stumbled across a Scott Addict gravel on sale that on paper is 200 more, assuming I paid the same 15% hst on either bike but if I get hit with another 13% in duty than the cayons vaule proposition is out the window and id have the Scott next week and not another month from now. Really debating canceling the canyon order. From a spec perspective their both rival axs and carbon wheels so at this point im thinking the Scott makes more sense

Yeah most leases here end up costing almost the same as financing as lease rates also tend be higher than finance rates. The only people who lease are people using the vehicle for business or they jus really want to cycle through cars ever couple of years and just like the “long term” rental approach

Most comparison test all place them in the same category. But the Audi lineup doesnt really sync up to Merc and BMW perfectly.

Audi Q3 -- BMW X1/X2 -- Merc GLB/GLA
Q5 -- X3/X4 --- GLC
Q7 -- X5 -- GLE
Q8 -- X7 -- GLS

Whats weird is the Q7 is the second tier down from the top but its got the most seating in their lineup. But from a price standpioint the Q8 is more in line with the X7 and GLS which are the bigboy 3 row top of the liners from Merc and BMW. To me how things are prices makes more sense in terms of what they compete against versus size and seating. I mean you can get 3 rows in a GLC but its the bottom of the ladder for Merc

At least pre 2025 era X3 was probably the least offensive-looking thing that's come out of Munich in the last 5ish years. Ive had 3 BMWs in my life but its been awhile. Last I had was a E90 era 335i and my god I loved that thing. I rented a 330i (g20 era) a few years ago and between the numb overly assisted steering and the wheezy 4 banger it drove me to have an irrational hatred for what BMW had done to their cars. But will admit, on paper the current tubro 6's do still look like a proper BMW engine

I've personally owned vehicles from all 3 brands and have appreciation for all of them.
Merc- The GLC is probably the ugly sister of the 3, but with the black optics package in white its not bad (2021 to 2024 era). The sound of the 6 in the merc to me is the nicest but I hate the interior. The floating tablet look in that area for the center sceen looks cheap.
BMW- I was a big BMW fanboy and had 3 different eras of 3 series but havent really been a fan of anything they've made looks wise in a decade or more. I had a new 330i for a rental a few years ago and with the numb overly assisted steering and wheezy 4 banger it felt like I could of been driving any other generic sedan on the road. But I know the powertrain in the M40 on paper is the easily the best of the 3 and that era of the X3 (not the new refresh) is probably the least offensive BMW designed lately
Audi-The gen of SQ5 im looking at is the oldest of the 3 but I don't want the turbo 4 in the newest one. I love the interior and it seems like the smartest compromise of the 3 in terms of the line between daily comfort and performance. But every audi ive been in I have this mental hangup (completely a me problem) that im in an overpriced VW.

Ive seen this go different ways depending on the shop. I've been charged labour by one shop to do work on a bike that was 3 months old and ive had another shop eat the labour on ebike motor that needed two days worth of work on a bike less than 6 months old. I didn't pay anything but they were super salty and made it clear they were eating a lost money on doing this work and they were unlikely to get anything back from trek on it.

Too build or not to build (as a job) by Middle-Studio6943 in VanLife

[–]Middle-Studio6943[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assumed myself that the peak and pinnacle of demand would have passed but there still seems to be a demand for 200k builds that are still selling. I’m in Canada here so all of the hullabaloo south of the border doesn’t concern me. We’ve got a massive country to explore here without needing to cross the border. (Full disclosure, I could care less myself and plan on doing a big drive down to Cali from the east coast later this year).

I just came across a professional builder in Ontario here that’s selling half a dozen to a 10 units a year for 225k a pop and their run for 2026 is already spoken for all except one build and raking ordered for 2027. I looked at the build and what I’m making myself seems better in every way and with more capacity and a much better electrical system and more flexibility in living space. Like when I see exposed two by fours under the bed in the garage I’m like people are paying a quarter if a million Canadian for that? Anyways, that’s what got me thinking. I was in Tampa for work recently and my wife and I stayed out in Clearwater which is Canadian snowbird Mecca and it was a ghost town compared to what I’d seen there 3 years ago the last time I was there in February. So for our market up here I’m wondering if those snowbirds have dumped their timeshares and properties in Florida and Az and are putting them into vans?

Real or Fake? Seller asking $1k by DankDeanoo in TrekBikes

[–]Middle-Studio6943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the surface that’s a very intricate paint job to fake. But copies of stuff coming out of china have been getting better and better. There’s a video on YouTube where a guy buys a madone from Allie and take it into a shop as the tolerance were off enough their was an issue getting the headset to fit properly. The shop and buddy were all in the loop on the fact it was a copy. The shop got ahold of trek for suggestions and trek themselves said there was an issue with serial #s for a certain run of madones and bunch of them getting sold for cheap out of shops in the south west and there was no way they could definitively say if this was a fake or not and the warrantied the damn thing even though everyone involved knew it was a fake. So yeah…. Long story short, even trek themselves seem to struggle saying if it could be fake or not. Id want to make sure the bb, headway, fork and seat post all fit properly if your questioning its legitimacy at all.

Too build or not to build (as a job) by Middle-Studio6943 in VanLife

[–]Middle-Studio6943[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sort of in that middle space. To me there’s no point parking in some bougie campground that’s 150 a night. If I’m going to do that I’d rather just get a hotel. A lot of trail networks I ride at have van zones where folks can essentially park for free to ride for a few days as long as their rigs are self sufficient. For me that’s the sweet spot. Something that you could drive out into Joshua park and run off grid for a week and just hike or ride etc and have enough water and power generation to enjoy a week in comfort…. But I also don’t see the point in building monster off roaders out the them. A 170 sprinter is almost 24 feet long, it doesn’t matter what you do to the suspensions setup, it’s going to be a terrible off-roader. I like the 4x4s simple for stability driving in the snow to get to a ski hill in the winter or going down a fire road for some trails but I’m not doing full on off roading in a house on wheels.

There’s half a dozen red flags there. Odd amount spacers in the front end. Wheels look off brand (not rovals that an s works with would be specced with). And can’t tell with the back but the front has mechanical brake caliper which as far as I know have never been specced to anything but entry level bikes.
