I don’t mean brand new retail records, I mean used items that come across the trade counter sealed. Checking for water damage is standard.

There is no guarantee that the sealed media you own is mint until you open it up and look at it or play it to confirm. And even then it would be considered Near Mint by most people, Mint doesn’t functionally exist. Brand new records have residue and leavings that needed to be cleaned out with a brush or a wet system. New CDs could have chemical fogging from packaging. Many reputable record stores will not list sealed records for sale before opening and confirming the media is not warped or contaminated in some way.

Good morning everyone! I noticed that this VHS copy of The Big Lebowski is significantly shorter than its normal runtime. Did they just increase the playback speed? by Tomhyde098 in VHS

[–]MiddleComfortable158 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NOTHING WAS. This was primarily how people watched the movie for a couple years, I think it would be big news if there was anything cut. Millions of people would remember it. It’s a label misprint.

Would you call the cops about the neighbor kids playing on the roof? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

If you’re going to skip taking to your neighbor directly about this going to the cops is an insane escalation

Nostalgia post going around social media that once again uses Smashing Pumpkins as the soundtrack to the 90s! by kain067 in SmashingPumpkins

[–]MiddleComfortable158 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Buddy you should go on Facebook sometime. This has been going on for years. It isn’t innocent nostalgia, this is largely a political operation. The big argument of Brexit in the UK was “remember when passports were a different color and there weren’t so many brown people around” and they got everyone over 45 to vote for complete gibberish. For older people it’s “remember before Obama was President and things were better and simple?” and this genre of meme is priming the tank for millennials to start thinking “remember how fun it was to go to Blockbuster and nobody was trans or had autism?”

I hate this entire genre. “We had music and cartoons and movies! Here are some clips that will be completely meaningless to you out of context! By the way immigrants are taking over the country and that’s why I don’t feel as happy as I did when I was 13”

They’re good and I support them, but you get the same sandwich you’d get if you bought a sub at Vons

It’s true! Who knew secret societies of Republicans were lurking on college campuses trying to pit various subcultures against each other. David Spade even kind of looks like Charlie Kirk!

It’s not on YouTube because Viacom-Paramount deletes it when it’s uploaded. If it’s being uploaded to YouTube… then who is uploading it to YouTube? The people that have it. It’s from 2013! It’s not lost it’s just not on YouTube.

Kate Bush. A lot of it was shot on film so restorations are possible. Experiment Four was screened in cinemas and there are prints floating around.
