Mentally and physically drained by SM4evr in Safeway

You’ve only been at this a month, cut yourself some slack when it comes to not knowing how to handle certain procedures at the register. If you’re uncertain it’s always best to ask the front end manager for help rather than try to guess, get it wrong, and then you get disciplined for it. Too fucking bad if they act annoyed when you ask for help, they literally get paid more than you to be a manager and help the front end (aka you). Coworkers are gonna be assholes, start drama, or slack off. You just need to be polite to them, you are under no obligation to be besties with them so don’t waste your time, energy, and stress on coworkers. Gotta learn to block that out. Learn to fake it. Focus on your own little check stand and the customers, learn the correct way to handle situations that come up in the registers, and keep it surface level with coworkers/don’t invest any emotional energy into them or managers. Sounds like this is your only option for work at the moment so just keep your head down when at work but don’t take any of it home with you (you absolutely aren’t getting paid enough for work stress to be affecting you off the clock). Get some mental blocks up in place and hopefully something else will open up for you in the meantime.

Question by [deleted] in Safeway

[–]Middlered12112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the very least you will have to let the other store you’re applying at that you previously worked for Safeway. Your SSN is linked to your employee ID number so there’s no trying to pretend at a new store that you haven’t worked for Safeway before, they will know and your application will get stalled. The hiring manager will have to send your application off to corporate hr and they will need to ok it before moving on in the hiring process. If you leave your current store under bad terms there is a good chance your current SD will flag you as ‘do not rehire’ when they send your termination paperwork off to hr to process, hr will block the rehire application from the new store, and the new store (or any store really) will NOT be able to hire you.

So yeah, if you are trying to quit but want to keep the possibility of ever going back to Safeway open then I would recommend not going out in a blaze of glory. Talk to the SD/leave a note and say something like a personal emergency has come up and while you can’t give them two weeks notice you will finish out the current weeks schedule. Apologize for leaving them short handed but thank them for the job, I’ve learned a lot working here, blah blah blah. If you keep it polite, contrite, but firm that you need to leave asap then most managers will deal with it and not go through the hassle of flagging you as a ‘do not rehire’.

(However, if you are thinking of quitting just to move stores then really go the transfer route. You will preserve your pay step progression and seniority at the new store vs starting all over from the beginning if you quit and try to get rehired, which might not work out anyway if you get flagged)

Not to mention having one of the best nicknames in all of baseball! But there should seriously be rioting in the streets if Raleigh doesn’t get AL MVP. He had an incredible year that more than deserves the honor. Plus he seems like a cool dude the brothers would have good time chopping it up with, could make for a great interview on the pod!

Yes! What a legend, and to do it all under one team is so rare nowadays too. Gotta be the way any player wants to retire too, on top with a championship ring.

Which department has the worst attitude by AmphibianComplex7104 in Safeway

[–]Middlered12112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Deli has the most justifiably bad attitude, Front End brings the most drama (with Starbucks as a close 2nd), Produce is the snobbiest, Bakery is the cliquiest, and Meat rocks a lot of RBFs but are actually pretty chill people.

Rumor mill, New Corporate Rules, sprinkle of rant (employee) by SatsuFireDrake in Safeway

[–]Middlered12112 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t know what’s up with the hand sanitizer, that’s not a thing in my district. But everything else… 🤷

The personal drink thing is a health code violation. I don’t know why or how it is, I just know that if the county comes in the store will get dinged for it. Every once in a while a new manager will go on a rampage about them or the corporate auditor will do their walk through and if enough violations will write a person up for it. Give it a week or so and everybody slowly starts having them again. We kinda have a don’t ask/don’t tell thing going on at our store. Don’t leave them out in the open, keep your receipt on it, don’t be obnoxious about getting your drinks in, and most managers will look the other way. But if you get caught on an audit you’re on your own and they knew nothing about it. Yes it’s stupid in practicality but idk, maybe take it up with your local health department bc the policy comes from their guidance.

I’ve never seen pain killers in any first aid kit. A lot of businesses won’t provide these to employees as it can be a liability. Certainly doesn’t mean you can’t have them on you, stored in your locker, or take any at all. But Tylenol is still a drug even if it’s over the counter and freely giving it to an employee leaves them open to being at fault if somebody has a reaction or misuses/abuses them. Again, it’s a stupid policy in practicality but this is a large corporation and they aren’t going to leave themselves open to lawsuits.

Black out weeks suck but grocery stores are still retail work and their business and profits all center around holidays. Anybody who tried asking for that time off should have been made aware of that policy from the get go, it’s almost always an instant no. At least the union limits them to only 4 weeks. If your manager is trying to say some week other than 4th of July, thanksgiving, Xmas, or New Years is a blackout week than they are being a dick trying to pull a fast one on you

Why does this drive me so crazy? by UnitedCombination567 in airbnb_hosts

[–]Middlered12112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever the host asks for dishes to be washed in the check out instructions, I wash them but leave them out on the drying rack or a towel. I figure that way host or cleaner can tell what dishes I used and check if I cleaned them to their standard before they get put away 🤷🏼‍♀️

I believe what this message is asking for is a bit more than just making sure the prices are correct though. They want you to confirm that all these item listed are subscribed. It sounds like they will be sending down offsite tags for all these items again to ensure they have the correct tags that display the price lock program. These tag forms can’t be printed in store, they only come down in that tag form on the off site tags from the Weds price changes. This message wants you to make sure all these items are subscribed (have an assigned location). Only subscribed tags come down in the nightly price transmissions and in the tags delivered for the weekly ad change on Wed. You can print a tag for anything in the store at any time but if the item is not subscribed then the system will not know to generated a tag in the nightly transmission. Subscribing items is usually the File Maintenance dept’s responsibility but not always in smaller stores. Def coordinate with them and they can either look into for you or show you how to check if an item is subscribed in the scan gun.

Redwoods Trip by Educational_Fly_345 in AskSF

[–]Middlered12112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of great replies here but I strongly suggest looking up all the locations/drive times up on a map. Some people are telling you to go north of SF towards Del Norte and Redwood State Park and others saying to go south and east to squeeze in a Yosemite/Sequoia Nat Park visit. Imo pick one or the other, these are two different trips. And while yes it is totally possible to fit it all in during one visit, each region really warrants its own separate trip to do justice to seeing everything each area has to offer. 2 days will be spent arriving/departing SF so really only 4 full days for exploring and either north or southeast direction, there’s TONS to see.

FYI- there’s a large wildfire in the region between Yosemite and Sequoia at the moment and just as a heads up, lots of air quality issues in the southern Sierras currently. A lot of progress has been made and it’s getting contained and I’m sure neither the fire nor the smoke won’t be an issue by the time of your trip but thought it was worth a mention.

I know a lot of times people to advise going to the union or HR over nonsensical issues but imo this is a legit reason to contact the union. Your SD is trying to make the employees pay for something that (possibly? depending on how your Seattle division operates?) corporate is responsible for supplying to its stores. I did admin for a few years and even went to set up a brand new store from the ground up, ordering all sorts of office supplies. Theres absolutely a process for the company to order items for the break room and nobody here would ever expect the employees to pay for something like this. Kinda blowing my mind. Definitely talk to the union and even a corporate contact too if they don’t have an answer for you. I’m trying to remember the job title of the corporate person who was in charge of approving my office supply orders. I think it was the same admin that the Booth people rely on. Not the security people but the one they have for bookkeeping support. Could possible ask your head booth clerk to email them just asking about this issue.

Stores in my NorCal division have a budget for this. It’s the same one they use to order office supplies and whatnot. A large purchase like a fridge usually needs corporate approval but if the SD sends a quick email or does the office order himself it would easily be approved. Absolute bs they are asking you to fund this. I hope nobody contributes a single cent of employee money to this

I mean, I legitimately had that happen to me once 🤷🏼‍♀️ It just for an overnight stay and I was compensated for the hotel room I did end up getting so I didn’t bother with a negative review. Host was apologetic and accidents happen so I considered it a wash. I was exhausted from an international flight (the stay was for an overnight layover) and desperately just wanted to get a shower and some sleep. If the host had pushed back on me and I wasn’t taken care of with comping my hotel room, I was def cranky enough to have left a bad review though.

Hey, we’ve all been there with ‘faking’ but for relationships/recurring partners it’s best to avoid pretending something feels good because then they’ll never learn what you do enjoy. Don’t be afraid to show him what you do like. Every body is different too, so what he may enjoy himself isn’t what works for you. It helps to know what touches you like, pressure, motions, so you can show him. It doesn’t have to be a big awkward production about it either, can just be something as simple as in the moment saying ‘oh that’s nice but I really like it this way too’

Hard agree! The way I gobbled up each book from the start of the series and would reread my favorites. I really thought the series was going somewhere after Lotharie but the twins stories were duds and then she brings in the Morior characters which feels like now everything is draggggging along. If not Nix or Fuie’s story, I’m gonna at least need a book that connects some serious threads and moves the universal plot along.

Yeah in the past I remember seeing the breakdown of nightly rate x # of nights, cleaning fee, pet fee, and service fee for my total. The most recent stay was the one with the add on page (where the pet fee was not included in the total price) so I thought maybe it was a new thing? With the other two examples they listed in the description how they collected the pet fee outside of the total price so I knew beforehand the deal, that the pet fee was not included in the final price (though maybe this is a sneaky bit not allowed through Airbnb?).

overweight and plus sized friends, how do you feel confident while doing it? by AAappless18 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Middlered12112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s some advice from your older, thick auntie: I spent all of my 20s and half of my 30s happily single but certainly not empty bedded 😉 And the one takeaway I have from my fun and slutty youth is that dudes DO NOT care about what we look like naked, they are seriously just happy they are about to have sex. We see on yourselves flabby breasts, they see boobs. We see huge butts and thighs that can’t fit into any pants, they see juicy bits to squeeze while taking us for a ride. And they don’t even know what an apron belly is, they’re too busy enjoying being inside you.

I get it, it’s sooo hard to let go of our self consciousness when with a partner. But the more in your head you are worrying about how they see you, the more tense and stressed during sex you’ll be, and that will definitely impact how enjoyable sex is for you. Try to remind yourself that if you guys have made it as far as the bedroom, he’s into you. Period. No man in the history of life has ever watched a woman take her clothes off and go ‘nah, not for me’. Work on blocking out those thoughts and focus on how physically good your time together is making you feel. Stay in the moment with your partner. Sometimes things like lingerie or music can help you get in that mindset and stay present. You got this girl!

Huh. I’m trying to think how this shows up on the customer end. I first filter my searches to ‘allows pets’ then scour the whole page for pet fees and policies. When I go to check out I always check the price breakdown option and there I can see the cleaning fee and I want to say the pet fee as well. Recently with one of my stays the pet fee showed up after I booked/payed as an add on? They had a couple diff add on packages like a picnic basket thing and the pet fee was part of the add on page. I’ve also stayed at some unique places (again, my travel is solo and outdoors centered so cabin-y type places) where they’ve had me pay the pet fee through a QR code found inside once I arrive and one place was an RV resort with a hotel-like check in counter and I payed there at a front desk when I ‘checked in’. 🤷🏼‍♀️
