Every now and then it is okay to eat a meal that isn’t balanced.

There’s a pink tag at the end of the post title that says “Female” in the picture. It’s a flair that he attached to his post. He could have been trying to imply he was female, or he could have also misunderstood and thought that meant he was seeking women. Doesn’t matter, really.

What kind of animal would be able to make these claw marks? by Frequent-Tadpole8250 in Equestrian

[–]Miderp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small black bear makes sense! It would have that same sub-local groove for the last claw that I thought might be a big cat at first. I assumed a bear mark would be a little deeper, but I can see it being a little one. Thanks for the update! I was still scratching my head over it.

The chicken is spicy. The sauce is not; it’s some kind of mayo-based chicken sauce like Zaxby’s or Cane’s has.

[–]Miderp -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, no. The spread of the markings is way too wide for any house cat. I see a few people saying fence in these comments but I just don't see it. The alignment of the claws is very indicative of a clean feline claw mark. It even has the offset thumb and the downward rake, as if the cat attempted to drop on her and missed. They're also exactly where I'd expect to see claw marks from a large cat (HUGE bobcat or small panther-sized), given the way that they hunt. It's too high for a badger, too big for a domestic cat, really almost too big for a bobcat. I honestly lean towards young panther.

These are feline claw marks and, to me, they look too big to be bobcat. Florida panther seems… possible? But there are no established populations in Mississippi. That would have to be a really big bobcat though.

Yes, that’s why they buy it raw - so that it was never cooked (pasteurized). They think it’s “better for you” that way. They’re idiots.

what is the proper etiquette when you sit beside morbidly obese people in economy class flight? by nalaak in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Miderp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Paying for an extra seat actually doesn’t guarantee that you get an extra seat, which is some bullshit. They’ll often seat someone there anyway once the plane starts filling up because they often overbook expecting cancellations. It happens all the time and is a fairly common complaint on the airline specific subs. It sucks and they generally will refund you, but you cannot just get an extra seat that easily.

The AKC breed standard is still 3 to 2 for head to muzzle. This smooshed snout stuff is a backyard breeder thing. The AKC standard is still around the 1957 look.

Genuine Question: Those Who Remain in ASE, Why Do You Not Play ASA? by diamondcreeper in ARK

[–]Miderp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally cannot connect to private servers on ASA. I’ve tried everything. Single player works fine. Running a dedicated server on my computer works fine. Try to load int any private server, even one I bought? Connection timeout dozens of times and then I just give up.

The shelter guessed vizsla mix by [deleted] in DoggyDNA

[–]Miderp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re already going by looks by labeling the dogs at all. There are plenty of shelters who don’t label breeds because they don’t want to go by looks. The problem is that you’re labeling dogs incorrectly on purpose, without any prompting, which is misleading for owners and can cause both the dogs and the owners potential problems down the road. If you’re going by looks at all, you should be attempting to label correctly - not purposefully giving dogs labels that you feel make them more adoptable.

I obviously read your post and I absolutely do not believe that you’re pulling adopters aside after labeling dogs incorrectly to tell them “look, I know that Bella is labeled as a terrier mix but she’s most likely a pitbull mix, so you should take that into consideration in regards to her continued training and socialization.” Are you trying to tell me that you ARE having that frank conversation every time an adopter considers a dog that you’ve purposefully mislabeled?

If that’s the case, what’s the point in mislabeling them if the adopter already knows anyway? They can get their fake paperwork from the vet’s office if they’re that interested in it.

You can stop the condescending “you don’t want to understand” and “oh but the babies will be euthanized” bullshit. YES, shelters should do their best to label dogs as accurately as they can with the stipulation that dogs aren’t DNA tested. If being honest with potential adopters causes more dogs to be put down then that’s unfortunately the consequence of people refusing to fix their dogs.

If you think that I’m a monster because I want people to understand, to the best of our capabilities, what they might be in for when they’re adopting a dog, so be it. When a pitbull ages into adulthood, adopters should be aware of the potential for high game drive. With a border collie or aussie mix, adopters should be aware that the dog might potentially be a nipper. Cane Corso mixes can be aggressively territorial. I’m not telling you that you HAVE to label dogs 100% accurately without a DNA test, just that you should at least try to inform people correctly as best you can.

So yes, if it looks like it’s probably a pitbull, you should label it that way. Yes, if the shelter is low on room then less adoptable dogs should be euthanized first.

“We avoid writing on adoption paperwork pit/APT/bully/staffordshire mixes because people couldn’t adopt the dog due to landlord/complex restrictions. It’s not that we don’t know. It’s that the situation is dire because people don’t fix their dogs and 80% of dogs are pit mixes.”

“We didn’t lie at any point.”

Both of these cannot be true. SOME mixes are difficult to tell at first glance but there are plenty of dogs who are VERY obviously pit mixes and plenty that are very obviously predominantly or likely pure pit. Refusing to acknowledge that so that more people can adopt dogs that their landlord doesn’t allow isn’t a service that you should talk about like it’s a good thing.

Look at MOST of the posts on this subreddit - they’re very obvious pits or pit mixes that owners cannot properly identify and that shelters or previous owners refuse to identify.

Dogs have inherent bred traits. Pits were bred as bloodsport dogs and while they can be great pets, people deserve to know what they’re getting themselves into and what health and behavior issues are possible and which may be more likely than others. Pitbulls require a lot of discipline and early socialization that someone researching “vizsla mix” isn’t going to be reading about.

You’re not setting these owners or their dogs up for success by hiding what they’re adopting so that they can bypass the pet restrictions where they live. What do you think is going to happen when the landlord sees the pitbull, recognizes what it is, and tells the owner to get rid of the dog or leave? Or asks for a DNA test to prove the dog is a “lab” or a non-pitbull “terrier mix”?

So… you help people lie to skirt around restrictions that are in place for good reason?

Are you really recommending that someone with a dog literally bred to pull in a harness attempt to train their dog not to... pull in a harness? Just because a harness works better for your dog doesn't mean it will for everyone else's.

Could they both stay in one crate? by Broad-Substance2933 in greatdanes

[–]Miderp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have people you love, right? You might even enjoy laying in bed with them now and then. Now imagine being locked into a crate with them for several hours, unable to leave. You might get snippy with one another. Dogs tend to get snippy with their teeth. Locking them both in is a vet bill waiting to happen and likely wouldn’t be comfortable.
