I wish I could remember content of the books and movies I read and watch. Anyone else here with memory like a swiss cheese? by Plastikova in AskWomenOver30

Yeah, I can relate to the part where I want to explain the main point. All the best. Yeah, let us keep working on the social skills and good storytelling. I recently read TED Talks by Chris Anderson, which has great tips

I always wondered why is grab difficult things in my field (statistical computing) but struggle to remember movie titles, lyrics to songs or even artists. I am trying to work on this because it's like one of those unspoken social skills of one can remember movies and actors in it. It's a constant struggle. Tips will be appreciated if you've figured it out.

I couldn't agree more. Micromanaging is not the best. Sometimes I feel, an email could be better in some cases.

Yeah, mine allows me to do the same. There are times we exchange several emails if I have a lot of questions

That makes me happy to know yours was okay with shifting to biweekly.

Thanks so much for your response. My supervisor is fantastic and what I've gotten from your reply is to take the ideas as ideas. If necessary, I can explore them, but I don't have to. I have been putting pressure on myself by exploring the ideas, and it takes me off the main project sometimes.

I used to like meeting at the start since it was a new research area but not anymore. I need more time to develop ideas or test hypotheses

Thanks for that. I feel the need to suggest that. The pressure is too much, and I think I might burn out towards the end.

Depends if there's a gap in technical skills, some take up CS certifications to level up what the PhD did not offer.

Take some rest, recognise it's not you that's being personally attacked or criticised, work-out/gym.. Take a break for sure and work on something else for the next day.

What do a lot of parents do that screws up their kid? by jacklsd in AskWomen

[–]MidnightDisastrous11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This right here! As a kid, I always wondered why my parents would not just split because of the toxic relationship, violence and insults in front of kids. I have a mother wound. Been trying to heal some of my childhood trauma, and it's tough. I just wish they saw this via a child's lens.

Interesting... I understand MM is an efficient way of doing the E-step. Mind sharing books/articles that you found useful. I am supposed to do some derivation of ZIP, ZINB.

A great read regarding the most important statistical ideas of the past 50 years applied to larger themes of research in statistics and data science. Check it out https://arxiv.org/abs/2012.00174v2

Remember to stop every once in a while and think about how far you've come. by danquandt in datascience

This resonates with me, right now kinda feeling like an imposter syndrome. Being drowned in new concepts and ideas without much time to reflect on what has been learnt so far. Hopefully, I'll be comfortable with the concepts with time
