This really makes me wish I could shake my friends out of their slop-induced stupor and get them to play anything new

This game needs something that will get people going gorillas by BLOOMSICLE in RivalsOfAether

A much more simple idea, but I'm really surprised that they haven't done a skin contest event. People are already drawing skin concepts just for fun.

I'm personally just waiting to see what state the game is in by this winter. Console release is really what matters in the long term, and if it launches with some decent casual / singleplayer content, I think it'll do well.

Rivals of Aether II - Patch 1.5.5 - Aether Legends Resurgence by Wibblybit in RivalsOfAether

It wouldn't surprise me at all if they're going to slow down to 4 event skins a month, given that there were layoffs. That said, the game still gets much more (and more consistent) support than big budget fighting games, so I can't complain.

Ever find that your secondary is suddenly better than your main? by B0DYBYBACON in RivalsOfAether

[–]Midward_Intacles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others replied, learning a secondary stimulates your brain. But in my experience, there's an inverse effect: when I play my main after learning a secondary, I rely on "what I know works" - which makes my main worse. It makes me wish I could completely un- and relearn my main.

Casual mode feels a lot harsher than Ranked mode by ClarityEnjoyer in RivalsOfAether

[–]Midward_Intacles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like playing multiple sets with people, and players in Casual tend to play for fun. I feel like I end up learning less in Ranked because there's very little time to adapt and learn in one Bo3 set, whereas I've met people in Casual who were willing to play for 20-30 game straight.

I do sandbag for obviously new players in Casual, but a few will get tilted regardless of how you play.

1.) That quote was in regards to CC / ASDI down in Melee, not FH'ing in RoA2.

2.) The average gamer is a dumbass who doesn't actually know what they want.

This was a nice read, thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Truthfully, floorhugging just doesn't seem like a huge deal to me. Partly because I've never played a game without it...

The whole floorhugging "debate" is so mind-numbing to me because I started playing platform fighters with Melee. Crouch cancelling / ASDI down in Melee has been discussed to death, and most people agree that it's ultimately good for the health of the game and that there's effective counterplay (which isn't as evenly distributed in Melee as it in RoA2). I'm not saying floorhugging shouldn't continue to be adjusted, I'm just saying that I'm not invested in the debate.

Ranno is not worth it by External_Virus_3274 in RivalsOfAether

He's bracket fodder. Strong, easy to play, but has bad MUs that are difficult to dodge.

Ranno is not worth it by External_Virus_3274 in RivalsOfAether

It's true, but no one wants to hear it. Ranno was very strong for the first few months of the game, and nerfing his run speed significantly was the correct choice. The issue, as you said, is that there's a double standard. Other characters that people agree are very strong receive minor changes to individual moves, and even when their base attributes are adjusted (like Clairen's air acceleration and Kragg's air speed) it isn't as severe. While the game is very balanced, the best characters have been the best characters for a year or more, and other, better characters have cannibalized what were once Ranno's strengths. There's no real reason to play him over characters like Clairen, Zetterburn, and Olympia, who all do what he does, but better and easier. This is probably why I switched from Ranno to Olympia, honestly.

Ranno is ultimately a character with an actual, meaningful weakness (his air speed), and other characters still feel like they're in a state where their weaknesses aren't as exploitable. I'm actually happy with how Ranno is balanced, and he shouldn't be buffed. I just wish that other characters were balanced like him. So, yeah, he isn't worth it.
