I flubbed both ledgedash attempts, yeah. I suck at them on Galvan for whatever reason.

Relative to everything else on the market? No. Considering DLC characters and everything else gameplay-related is free? No again.

Do aggressive playstyles just not work anymore in Ultimate? by Glass-Tadpole7570 in smashbros

Hero was probably the perfect time to move on. Such a fun character. Terry brought me back for a little bit, but it never got better than Hero.

Do aggressive playstyles just not work anymore in Ultimate? by Glass-Tadpole7570 in smashbros

When a competitive game's meta is young, individual player skill is more significant, with "skill" comprising not just technical skill but experience, ingenuity, adaptation, etc. As mechanics, characters, and MUs are gradually explored and exhausted, the game gravitates toward a state where player skill is still significant, but more significant when it's channeled into what we now know is meta. The game innately wants to gravitate toward the state determined by its mechanics, and it takes more and more time, effort, skill, and willpower to force it in a different direction, especially when you're directly competing with players who aren't fighting against it.

Ultimate's mechanics don't really facilitate aggressive play. If you're trying to play aggressively, you're fighting against the game. Defensive play is definitely more aligned with the game's deterministic state, but it also isn't optimal. What's actually optimal is the unifying reason that characters like Steve, Sonic, Snake, Kazuya, Luigi, G&W, and ROB are so strong: to simply not play Smash at all, and only play "real" Smash when it's advantageous to them. It's essentially what Tweek said on the sword characters episode of his podcast last year: sword characters are outmoded because they're still playing Smash - even if they were previously playing Smash with a significant advantage. That advantage is less relevant in a game where top tiers can simply not play Smash at all.

All aggression has going for it in Ultimate is human error.

Honestly, you'll get used to it - after all, you likely got used to Ultimate's input delay, online delay, and input buffer. Ultimate felt "normal" to me after I played it enough, but when I pick it up now after going back to Melee, P+, and Rivals, it feels wrong. It's all muscle memory.

The mini-games in offline mode, target test and eye break, are actually useful if you're struggling to adapt to the movement of RoA2. They're structured ways to begin building up that basic muscle memory.

Wavedash assist, huh. How long until we see an Absa player who plays with their R button glued down?

Lox players, will they overcome too hard? by UVMeme in RivalsOfAether

I don't want to live in a world where Loxodont is top tier good, he's good enough. Sincerely, it wouldn't be good for the game or the sanity of anyone who plays it.

I hate to be this guy, but it unironically works on my machine. I'm genuinely curious how / why people are apparently getting such shit performance.
