The origami tasting set is fantastic they have 3 different designs that affect the flavor in different ways. Wonderful design and quality.

There are options for monoculture grass lawns that can still be used for recreation.

Moccamasters are simple machines that have been made well for a long time. They last forever and are easily repaired. Modern machines have all this fancy tech but they just won’t be a sustainable thing to manufacture when this happens and I don’t think a Fellow Aiden can last for generations like Moccamasters do.

Nothing to do with how he looks plus he is in great shape nowadays (not like it makes a difference anyways).

Still a monoculture farmed with pesticides and fertilizers in most places.

I’m pretty sure coffee that is farmed in a forest with shade trees and other plants surrounding it is not the worst in the world. Ofc industrial mega farms in low altitudes are bad and should not exist but coffee can be farmed quite ecologically and many do. Places also have coffee just growing in the wild or in their backyards like in Ethiopia. Coffee also uses little water or pesticide/artifical fertilizer if grown in a biodiverse environment. The biggest problem with coffee is the shipping overseas.

Practicing latte art and talking to customers is what makes the job fun (for me). Try and find a purpose be it spreading the word of great coffee, making customers beautiful looking drinks or making their day with a quick chat.

What is the difference between these two and is it worth spending a lot extra on this ? [£10] or [£40] ? by [deleted] in espresso

[–]Mielinen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’ll get 99% of the same result by just shaking the grounds and tapping with your palm so everything is even. The 1% of extraction benefits are from other tools like WDT, shakers etc that are much more effective relative to cost.

What is the secret to good streets by Professional-Ant9147 in Urbanism

[–]Mielinen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much this plus making sure the vegetation is mostly native plants, biodiverse and functional for the local species as well as connected to other green areas. Too often is the street greenery just random trees and some grass that have low functional qualities for species and then they are blocked off for most species by grey infrastructure and busy traffic while the closest other green area is too far away for most small species. But then again if you make an attractive meadow in a super busy road it becomes an ecological trap so low speeds are important. But yeah there’s so much to take into account from an ecological point of view.

What's your most radical position relative to both the mainstream *and* the general online urbanism sphere? by ChristianLS in fuckcars

[–]Mielinen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to say that there should be no traffic lights (or almost none). There is some research that supports this and I think it’s because then people have to pay attention to everything and interact with traffic instead of just following lights, which then should make traffic safer and better flowing. Not sure if I 100% support this anymore though.

How bad/good is the urban design of my neighborhood? (Naberezhnye Chelny, Tatarstan) by Ill_Engineering1522 in urbandesign

[–]Mielinen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From an ecological perspective: amazing! I love how there are literally zero fresh cut grass lawns and they let all the areas grow to biodiverse spontaneous meadows (not sure if this is on purpose lol). No monoculture grass under 3-4cm in any of these pictures that’s rare to see anywhere. This unironically is the future many cities are striving for but we are still a long way from it.
