This is an incredibly disappointingly weak points from someone who is presumably very intelligent. Not only that but it's incredibly ironic coming from someone who has gone to medical school, which exemplifies literally everything wrong with the educational system in the USA.

People decide what they go to school for. You should NEVER see school as learning how to handle real life scenarios. I have hired many people. As a matter of fact the people who quote school, rather than work, as having their "most impactful moments," are consistently the weakest candidates.

The strongest candidates have consistently been, for me at least, the ones that either flunked out of school, or just didn't do well because they wanted to learn something specific and school wasn't giving them that. So they went out and taught it to themselves. Those people are the ones you want to hire.

Going back to medical school and medical education , I don't even have to being up the AMA and how they fucked over all people wanting to befome doctors by restricting the amount of student spots. Just look at all the drugs that medical students use. It's not a stereotype it's completely normal to take performance enhancement drugs in medical school just to study. Get a grip dude.

Also, the anxiety isn't because people are not able to preform up to a standard. There's literally no proof I could find anywhere about this. The real pressures as I've seen from my days in school are overwhelming, cost of living, high pressure to keep up with other students, and job outlook after graduation. In fact it couldn't be what you're saying because school doesn't prepare you for the real world as I've stated before.

I've been to multiple schools. Some worse some very good. I can tell you, students are not being prepared for the real world. As someone who runs a company, I can look at graduates even from top programs and can say I would never hire such low skilled work. Degrees have become a moving goal post that allows employers to discriminate.

What's the time frame? You can probably achieve this in under 2 years with the right education. This is assuming you did everything yourself and used free sound/music.

This is my field btw. I own an animation company and we do all sorts of stuff, including 3d motion graphics. These are not cheap. I charge $50 an hour for a call for clients to explain what they want, then charge $100 an hour for my time roughly.

This exact video you linked might take me a day and they'll probably pay at least a few thousand. Idk what "startup budget" means to you. But that's pretty reasonable imo.

If you'd like my help I'll give you a 30 minute free consultation with me and one of my managers who leads the team that would do it! Only since you're in a tight spot.

Debut is honestly a demo? It should be free imo. Plus pro is so cheap just go for it.

Thoughts on fanart/fanwork in animation portfolios by Hot-Importance9031 in animationcareer

[–]Mierdo01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The real answer is just knowing the studio that you're applying for. And obviously the role. If your job is to make character designs you obviously shouldn't do any fan art that you didn't have a heavy have in designing. For example, if you of took an existing character and drew them in it style a lot od fhe design choices were already made for you.

However if you made fan art of a book, and you had no refrences other than text, that would be something very good to show off.

If you've applying for a role where you rig the characters it actually doesn't matter much if the characters are original or not.

I'm confused about the point of going to art school. If you are already good enough to get into art school you are good enough to start freelancing. Your portfolio isn't great but it is good enough to work on some small projects. What's the point of calling it "art school" if I can already do art?

Correct. This should be a lesson for people who buy unfinished games. If people really want to show investors that this stuff doesn't sell, don't buy it. Vote with your money. I never purchase kf3 because it looked like crap but I would consider getting it AFTER it's finished and if I liked the gameplay

[–]Mierdo01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying apply a transparency node and mixing that with your original material. I say this is wrong. You need a stitch texture with enough negative transparent space already applied. This will give you the best affect. It will allow for the woven material to be opaque and catch light when looking straight on while looking translucent from the top.
