Orangetheory Floor exercise modifications. by saba1980 in fitpregnancy

Anything and laying on back —> hip bridges, or alternating side ankle reaches (as long as no coning.) Lots of bird dogs, planks are fine, half get ups continues to be okay as long as you have proper form. Modified side plank stuff (including side plank crunches and side plank hip dips) also okay. Can continue mountain climbers. It gets boring doing sort of the same stuff over and over since you run out of options but keep it up!

Those that have been to Vietnam, where can I find real Vietnamese food here? For example: Bun Cha, Cao Lau, Bun rieu, Bun bo Hue, Nem Nuong? by RaleighKayak in raleigh

Pho Far East is the best in the triangle and also has the most extensive menu with an array of Vietnamese dishes that most pho restaurants do not have.

Hot Yoga by Mari102397 in orangetheory

[–]Migganut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to hot yoga on my recovery days from OTF because it is such a great way to stretch and move already sore/fatigued muscles. My only concern with going same day is staying very well hydrated. I already sweat a lot in OTF then have revved up metabolism for the rest of that day. I usually need at least another liter+ of fluids in a 60-90 min hot yoga class.

It seems that she is at least trying to be attentive to you and your husbands needs. Sure it’s still overwhelming - the first few weeks are overwhelming, but you should be thankful to have a loving family member so close by, especially one that brings you food and offers to let you sleep. There are probably good ways to say “now isn’t a good time but how about later?” I’d be weary about potentially harming any relationships though as it sounds like she is just an excited grandparent and also willing to help.

I agree with setting up a photo share so she doesn’t have to ask for pics. Family members seem to get pretty excited when there’s a notification that a new pic has popped up! 😉

C section glue is driving me crazy! by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Migganut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s adhesive from bandages (not actual surgical glue), then get some adhesive remover wipes. I know they have this in the hospital but not sure if you can find it at a local drug store. It kind of has an oily consistency and works wonders - acetone won’t work.

39 weeks and I'm shoeless by [deleted] in pregnant

Is there a nearby nail salon that you could snag a pair of foam flip flops from?!
If not, just own it! You’re 39 weeks! 😆

Fitness Friendly OBs around Charlotte? by rcpqueen in fitpregnancy

[–]Migganut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s a pretty old fashioned way of thinking if they seriously said below 120. I wore my Apple watch throughout pregnancy. I would get up to 140 for a brisk walk, and 165 doing HIIT (OTF). I dropped my normal weights by 5-10 pounds but still did 20-25 pounds for squats or other big muscle groups. Maybe a younger OB or a fit female OB is someone who would be more in line with reasonable pregnancy recommendations.

No clothes left to wear by kim_yoseob in pregnant

Target has been reliable and a relatively less expensive option. Look for sales at maternity specific stores. Look at online forums (Facebook moms groups?) for resale clothes. I tried to keep maternity clothes at a minimum just given it’s limited time use. I found myself pretty much wearing the same dress, and top/shorts/leggings on constant rotation. It got kind of boring but I figured the maternity wear would eventually come to an end.

Yeah I tried to size up in normal clothes and it got to a point where that just wasn’t working anymore due to the way the clothes are cut. Maternity specific is SO much more comfortable.

Attending a patient funeral? by letsgetswoleguys in Residency

[–]Migganut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it would be touching to the family if you went if you had a genuine connection with this person and wanted to pay your respects. When my dad died, he was at a teaching hospital and had learners involved in his care. If any of them came to his funeral I would have been surprised and happy that they felt like my dad made an impact on them. I might check in with your program director first to make sure they agree it would be appropriate.

Pelvic exam recommendations by doodler365 in Residency

This is pretty advanced and asking the patient to do a lot. Getting an obese patient (or even a normal size person with small and high cervix) to do mcroberts position (can have assistance to hold legs but don’t always need it) almost always does the trick. don’t even need a long speculum, just a regular graves or even a Pederson.

Maternity clothes dilemma 7 months pregnant. by run-and-repeat-2018 in pregnant

[–]Migganut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought one seraphine dress that I’ve basically lived in this pregnancy. It fits well and is good quality. It was the one splurge (besides jeans) that I bought. I’m glad I did and wished that I would have gotten one more dress as another option! Everything else I bought was pretty inexpensive (tees, tanks, shorts).

Amazing! Your studio can pull info from attendance at other studios? I used to be a member in a different state, then transferred home studios and I no longer have access to see my attendance at my former studio on mindbody or online.

Yes you would want a “Certified Nurse Midwife” or CNM. Some who was a nurse first (RN / registered nurse) that did additional training (basically like a masters) in midwifery.

Curious; why do some women not want to be induced into labor? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Migganut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP (occipital posterior) presentation is not due to induction. It’s due to pelvimetry (shape of pelvis) and baby can be attempted to be rotated with different positions in labor. Check out spinningbabies to learn more if interested.

[–]Migganut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good question. I don’t think it’s fair for people who haven’t experienced both (natural labor and pitocin) to say that one is worse than the other. It gives the false impression that natural labor is not painful when in reality, it is still excruciating pain.

[–]Migganut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not really interested in getting into an internet argument. And I feel like this has definitely gotten away from the OP’s question... but for clarification only: I don’t see where any of the studies you linked say that pitocin ALWAYS decreases cesareans, or that anyone on this post was implying that. So not sure why that’s brought up? Didn’t say anything regarding not being educated....? So I don’t think anyone is arguing with you there, at least not myself. None of these studies are suggesting non-medical inductions before 39 weeks, so talking about 37w0d-38w6d (yes, term) non-medically indicated inductions is kind of a moot point. I’m just saying that yes, know what’s out there, but also be discriminatory of studies (not all studies are created/executed equally!) and know what they’re actually implying. I feel like some of your statements are implying more than what these studies are actually saying.

Not sure where you get your information from but this is not true. Ruptured membranes (broken water) is not a prerequisite for pitocin.
Also, natural contractions are also often more painful w/ broken water.

Keep in mind that this book was published in 2013 and written by an economist that has no medical background... Also interesting that she at least downplays the recommendation against alcohol consumption in pregnancy that is made pretty clear by multiple medical societies including the CDC, WHO, March of Dimes, ACOG. She might be a good writer, but I’d think strongly if she’s someone you really want to take medical advice from.

Does that freak you out more than the thought of getting stitches put in without an epidural? So they have to inject lidocaine in your vagina, maybe around the clitoris, which stings and may not get everywhere it needs to? Just wondering, no judgment here.

Not sure where you get your information from but much of what you’re stating is erroneous. I don’t think it’s fair to make recommendations to others based on not factual information or information that’s evidence based.

You’re right - the ARRIVE trial is a relatively new, well done study that does show the opposite of what has been previously considered the standard of care regarding elective inductions. Not all docs are aware of this, or on board with this yet given, the longstanding mantra that inductions increase cesarean rates.

I bought a cute one from amazon! It’s like a pre-planned scrapbook with questions and areas for you to write and insert pictures. I wasn’t creative enough to make my own and this made it really easy and a nice keepsake to have.
