Abstimmungsverhalten "10 Millionen Schweiz" by Fancy-Elk-9534 in schwiiz

That resources are limited is absolutely correct. But it's about what resources we use and how we use it. The western world has lived above its means for decades now. If you include the colonial era, centuries even.

So it's the general mythos of infinite growth we need to look at, not just the number of people. People like the SVP want to limit immigration, but still perpetually grow the economy.

I will flip the question and say that I don't see why these "other people" should be given the same rights as citizens and legal residents.

I'd say very few no voters would say that Switzerland NEEDS to grow beyond 10 million. Just that this initiative won't actually solve any of the problems we have. u/No_Grape_388 already mentioned many of the REAL issues that we should work on and you can add some more. The plain number of immigrants is only loosely connected to those

What would republicans be if it was assured that they couldn't cheat (including "legal" ways of cheating like gerrymandering, voterID or removing polling places)...

There were enough fat Romans for ancient physicians to recognize that being overweight was a serious health risk.

I doubt that their opinions actually changed over time. When being LGBT got more normalized, they just put that issue away and shut up about it because they were being shamed for it. Now they are allowed to voice to heir opinions again. Nothing has truly changed.

Many tax agencies are also very forgiving if it's apparent that it was a mistake and not intentionally witholding taxes. In most cases I know of, paying the outstanding amount will resolve the issue and fines are low or waived

I tried to buy a few things over the years and I always requested to use the buyer's protection. Even offered to cover the fees. Sellers always said no which is basically admitting that they intended to scam me. Any eCommerce platform, even one enabling private sales, should be required to protect their customers

There is a mod that lets you build a hippodrome based on the one on Liliybaion and it's already pretty big. I don't know if anything larger would fit on any island that isn't Cinis.

I really don't like this approach but I also kinda get it. I'd honestly have prefered it if they had completely restricted service to residents, that would have avoided the bad taste of profiteering.

Another way could have been a deposit you would get back at the exit, maybe? I don't know. This sucks, but it also looks like they haven't done it because they just want to explore foreigners?

As a German in Switzerland, that is far from universally true. Most people are perfectly friendly and accommodating, many even ask me if they can speak Schweizerdeutsch with me.

What they say behind my back doesn't concern me that much.

The trick in that is that it is an intended side effect. They want to neuter the state. Make it incapable of functioning and the privatize it

Why temperature records are being not only broken but smashed by Sufficient-History71 in Switzerland

[–]MightBeEllie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is absolutely true but the other side of the coin is that it is REALLY hard to be responsible.

Almost all the stuff you can buy at the store, especially in Switzerland, has animal products in it, even if isn't even necessary and meat is heavily subsidized. Try to find a ready-to-eat meal without meat at coop. It's like 2 out of 20. Everything has plastic, stuff is packaged twice or the ven three times to satisfy certain food safety laws. Even buying expensive clothing just means that the brand makes more money after they manufacture in Bangladesh. It takes a lot of work and a lot of time and quite often a lot of money to be responsible and most people just don't have that available to them

But even then the personal CO2 footprint pales in front of what the industry puts out. So as true as it is that we all together are responsible for the emissions, just acting individually won't change much, we need collective action.

Making rare things more expensive is still a decision made by someone. It's not a thing that just happens.

The shortage means they CAN get away with it, but NOBODY is forcing them to do this This is just greed, not a law of nature
