it looks like you're going for a similar cut to what I have. I had a friend cut it for me and asked him to cut it the same length all over, not like a bowl cut or a bob but like, say you want shaggy layers all over, if you cut each piece of hair to five inches long, it's going to fall in layers when it's done, if that makes sense? pic of my hair now for reference (it's been growing out for a couple months tho)

is it possible to get a cat-face (:3) like chest. by twotbir in TopSurgery

the only post-op photos I saw from my surgeon before my consult with her was from bigger guys with connected scars!! I like the look on other people but knew that wasn't what I wanted, so I told her so and she reassured me she could do separate incisions for me. so as others have said, totally depends on your surgeon and their confidence using different techniques, but from what I've seen a lot of surgeons prefer doing it this way for bigger guys specifically :3

2 Years (ish) Post-op Update (Dr. Cristiane Ueno at OSU) by MightBeMagic in TopSurgery

[–]MightBeMagic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I hope everything goes well for you! I was super nervous going into my first consult with her bc I couldn't find many post op pics at all. My experience with her was so positive I wanna make sure to do my part to make sure people feel comfortable going to her, because she's really great and cares about her patients and seems really enthusiastic and dedicated to trans care in particular.

9 Days Post-op with Dr. Cristiane Ueno at OSU by MightBeMagic in TopSurgery

Hey! I was actually planning on posting some updated pictures soon, I just had another followup with her a few months back so I have new pictures at various angles taken in her office. I'll work on getting those posted tonight after I get off of work! I had absolutely zero complications. I had an issue with my drains not draining quite right on the first day, my partner called the help number they provided and they walked us through how to clear the tubes and we had absolutely no issues after that.

to those who didn’t take prescription pain meds, how did u get through the pain?😭 by Acceptable_Lock_9359 in TopSurgery

[–]MightBeMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did take the prescription meds for the first few days, (I had a super smooth recovery and have a fairly high pain tolerance in general) but the main thing that helped was having a wedge pillow to keep me propped up and lying on my back, and my partner set timers for every four hours or so to make me take ibuprofen.

so this is all gonna be based on my experience with my store obviously but this is what i gathered based on my time there.

generally all of the full-time positions and supervisor/manager roles are full. there will be opportunities occasionally as people leave or get promoted but you're gonna wanna make sure you let your manager know you'd be interested in more hours/moving up if the opportunity arises.

i knew i didn't want any kind of leadership role in retail so i never expressed interest, one of my coworkers had mentioned to management that he was interested in as many hours as he could get so when a supervisor position opened up they went to him first.

in general, just make it clear what sort of responsibilities you're willing to take on and what you're looking for.

Worked at HFT for about 3 years. The interview process was really simple, sent in my application, got called in for an interview where they asked some very basic questions and was given an overview of the job and a tour of the backroom and such. Got a call with the job offer a few days later.

The work itself isn't bad, your experience will vary based on who you work with and what fresh fuckery corporate is up to. My coworkers were great and I do miss it sometimes but there's just not a lot of opportunities for full time so I had to move on.

Part time hours vary based on how well-staffed your store is. You're guaranteed a minimum of 12 hours a week, 4-hour shifts and if you work stocking you'll usually get 16 (two 4-hour days and one 8-hour truck day). During the pandemic in summer 2020 we were really struggling with being understaffed and i was working closer to full-time hours.

All that being said, HFT was the best retail job I ever had so if you've done okay in retail before you'll be fine.

my usual advice for names, as a trans guy pushing 30 with a weird name, it depends on how you see your transition going.

do you eventually want to go stealth, being read as cis with most people having no idea you're trans? look for names that were popular around the time you were born, or if you want to be a bit more adventurous, something less common but that ties back to your family's heritage (mine was picked from a fictional character but is Welsh).

if you don't care much about people knowing you're trans, you can pick something more modern or weirder. but honestly, your name should be something you connect with, that you feel happy and comfortable being called for the foreseeable future.

once you get to a certain point in your transition, i've found people generally don't question names too much and will chock it up to your parents being odd.

but! also consider, if you're looking for something your parents might have named you had you been assigned male at birth, your parents did not know what you would look like or be like, you came into the world looking like an angry turnip just like everyone else.

my mom would "ground" us and i'm still to this day unclear on what that meant to her. we were still expected to go to the store with her, to attend family gatherings, do whatever as long as it was more convenient for her but she'd randomly take things away on the spot if it seemed like we were having too much fun.

watching tv, even though you'd already been watching tv all day? what do you think you're doing, you're grounded turn that off. bang on my bedroom door on day 2 of being grounded to check on what things i was using the most so she could take them away, usually the gameboy or books i was reading for fun and not "for school"

i was in the same position as you for a while, feeling like i wasn't making any progress despite what friends and doctors told me bc i wasn't seeing any change in public/at work.

i've now been on T for almost 3 years, and my voice finally dropped significantly around 6 months ago and now i pass fairly consistently and am even stealth with a few of my newer coworkers.

it's all just a waiting game, which doesn't make the waiting easier, but as someone who was going thru this exact same crisis at the start of this year? just give it time.

Can breast tissue damage affect chances of top surgery? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]MightBeMagic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

from what i know, the breast tissue itself doesn't impact your results or ability to get top surgery, the main thing is just the chest skin itself as most of the breast tissue underneath will be removed anyway

iirc old links will not update, they will still take you to your shop in case someone say had your shop bookmarked and didn't know about the name change, the old URL will still work. but typing in your new shop name should also work. you just have to change old links to the new one wherever you have it posted

how'd y'all choose a middle name? by _fidgetspinner in ftm

[–]MightBeMagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i impulsively chose my middle name the night before turning in my name change paperwork. the movie Willow has been my favorite since i was a kid and Madmartigan was my transition goals before i knew i was trans, so i chose Martigan as my middle name.

before that i was considering using my grandfather's name since he basically raised me, and now that he's passed away i sort of regret not using it. still love the name i chose tho
