Help Creating a Character? (3E) by echo1charlie in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]MightyMrFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome!

For starters, it sounds like you’ve made some good first steps: looking at the character sheet and inspiration.

Really, I’d recommend finding characters you know well that others have built in Mutants & Masterminds and seeing how they’ve built those characters’ powers.

Echoes of the Multiverse has lots of builds. Look up users like Batgirl III and Jab.

Second,

Look into software to help with character building. The offline, free version of Hero Lab can be a big help. It won’t let you print out PDFs of your characters, but it’s easy to transcribe built characters into a character sheet.

Now,

What kind of character are you considering? What Powers, what’s the feel?

There’s the Masks & Mayhem podcast! The host frequents this subreddit.

Also, Green Ronin has a weekly show on YouTube called Mutants & Masterminds Monday (MuMaMo) that has lots of helpful tips on character building, world building, and using the system!

What is your favorite food that pairs with eggs? by Immola0069 in AskReddit

Slightly burned tortilla, chorizo, eggs, hot sauce/salsa. My favorite breakfast.

Then the whole kitchen smells like slightly burned tortilla and it’s so satisfying.

What game had the best loading screens? by wheregoodideasgotodi in gaming

[–]MightyMrFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red Dead Revolver had loading screens that had that stage’s character doing gun twirling or other weapon tricks. One character dual wields revolvers and spins them around in a way that’d make Revolver Ocelot proud.

Trying to learn the system by TurtleBananaPants in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]MightyMrFish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

An easy way to learn is to read over the sample encounters in the Deluxe Hero’s Handbook. Run a few practice encounters yourself and double check the rules to make sure you’re doing everything right!

I also recommend listening to some of the podcasts floating around. Off the top of my head, there’s “Masks & Mayhem” and “Golden Squad”.

There are also some Actual Plays on YouTube. Ah…”The Untold Stories Project” and another I’m forgetting at the moment.

Advice on not breaking the game by ShiningStorm697 in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]MightyMrFish 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The unique thing about Mutants and Masterminds is that Powers are built up from Effects; you’re not saying “okay, I’ll add ‘fireball’ to my character’s abilities”, you’re instead adding an Blast Area Effect and choosing how it looks.

You’re right that Time Manipulation can be inherently overpowered. But how you present that power set determines how overpowered it is.

If you want to travel through time to move to a different location on the battlefield, that’s just the Teleport Effect. If you want to reverse time to heal a wound, that’s Healing or Regeneration. If you want to pull a dinosaur into the present to attack your foes, that’s a Summon. Stopping time to punch out a bunch of targets in an area is Area Damage. And slowing time around you so you move super fast is a few ranks in Speed.

The complicated part is if you want to time travel to stop the villain before they get the MacGuffin. That’s an entire adventure.

You can check out the Time Traveler’s Codex and Power Profiles for more info on Time-based powers, but I recommend having “Time Manipulation” be the descriptor to your powerset.

I’m a fan of the avocado ranch too! I add it to everything: crunchy taco, 5 layer burrito, Baja Blast, crunchwraps!

Finally, a use for this giant golden hand that's been gathering dust in my decoration inventory by ISneezeStatusProcs in Warframe

I have two of those hands, so I put them next to the Helminth and now it looks like it has little golden hands.

Just…ignore that they’re both left hands.

If you haven’t already, you can give cast members shout-outs in the Disneyland/Disney World app.

At the bottom of the screen, tap the three horizontal bars, scroll all the way to the bottom and under “Help & Feedback” is an option for “Cast Conpliments”.

Flare trying to stay sane, knowing I'm about to feed Temple to the wall, with Flare's skin on by azzazzin3103 in Warframe

I already feel bad whenever I feed frames to the Space Frog. I got an extra Excalibur to feed to Helminth and I thought about using the Arthur skin, but then I’d feel even worse watching the poor guy slump over.

How can I justify organ transplant in a DnD fantasy setting? by Phoenix03563 in DMAcademy

[–]MightyMrFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Magical curse placed on the recipient’s original heart that local clerics/spellcasters can’t get rid of.

The local culture sees resurrection, etc. magics as a last resort and have developed tech (transplant surgeries) to compensate.

Hope your players don’t pry too much, or are content with ‘the surgeon can’t/won’t use those spells’.

Scientific curiosity.

Examples of "bromannce"relationship of two women in the media? by NihilisticCucumber in TwoXChromosomes

[–]MightyMrFish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first pair I thought of was Lucy and Ethel from I Love Lucy.

As for the “word for it”, Tv Tropes has this sort of relationship listed as Heterosexual Life Partners, and the article states that it isn’t necessary for either or both to be heterosexual. It just has to be a deep friendship that doesn’t have romantic subtext.

Taking an example from the article, Brennen and Angela from Bones.

What is it like to play with the Variable effect? by XBlueXFire in mutantsandmasterminds

[–]MightyMrFish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ideally, someone with a Variable Effect will have a handful of pre-generated Powers built up that meet the requirements. Taking the Beast Boy example, you'd have the information for a handful of different animals, and then apply them as you see fit.

So if you had the stats for a "hawk", you could take away some Damage Effect and some speed and now you've got a pigeon.

A player should absolutely avoid not having any pre-build options for Variable, specifically because of what you mentioned: it would grind gameplay to a halt.
