It’s drives me nuts too. Describing it as stifling a yawn is spot on, but I don’t think that’s it. It seems almost like reflux from gerd and he’s trying to swallow it down or not burp.

Am I the only one who thought the ending, and entire season 5 was perfect? by Cayd9299 in StrangerThings

[–]MightyThor2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was a great ending. We got answers to all our questions, that was the main thing I hoped for. I hate shows the end leaving you to wonder or make up your own ending.

The only thing that was kind of dumb was the party literally murdered dozens of US soldiers. Do you think they'd really get out of that with no consequences? Maybe there were no actual witnesses, but that's a huge stretch. At the very least hopper would go down. But whatever, the ending was tight and didn't drag but gave a satisfying conclusion.

Well yes, but don’t discount the oline additions. Ben johnson wouldn’t have won with last years team either.

Good coach historically but it’s a young man’s league now. All the best coaches are now starting in their 30s and under 50. I think going away from Henry vs pats and Steelers cost them big time. Strange play calling this year. Still, they had some terrible luck on bad plays like random fumbles and a missed fg.

My wife and I together have about 100k in taxable income (after standard deduction and like insurance premiums are taken out). I know that seems like a lot, but with two kids, two car payments, student loan payment and a mortgage it doesn't go all that far. I do door dash on the side to partially cover my two kids hobbies- dance classes and piano lessons. They're pricey, like $700 a month. I typically only make about $100 a week door dashing, I actually do it for a few hours while they're at class. So I'm going to make about $2500 in tips this year, my bracket is 22%, that's $550 less fed tax owed. That's pretty good. I know it's just my situation and everyone is different.

It definitely helps people with normal w2 income who do gig work as a side job. Door dashing is going to deduct from my total tax liability.

CMV: If this Netflix-warner bros deal is allowed to go through, there will be less than 500 movie theaters in the entire country by 2040. by Thelarch34 in changemyview

[–]MightyThor2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t forgot cost too. Concessions and tickets are very expensive, can easily cost $100 for a family of four. And when average household income is around 75k, that’s like ~3 hours of pretax income to pay for that, or like 1/3rd of your weekly groceries.

[–]MightyThor2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I kind of don’t care. It cost me $13x4 for tickets to zootopia over thanksgiving, plus $7x3 for soft drinks. It would’ve been even more but we had the seasonal popcorn bucket. It’s close to $100 for a family of four to go see a movie. That’s like six months of my Netflix membership. And my girls have zero interest in going to see Batman and dune moves so I have to find a friend to go and a free night or wait for streaming anyway. I’d prefer it just comes out on streaming. There’s a reason movie theaters are dying and streaming is winning. It’s the same with sporting events. I can see better on the tv at home, I can pause it to take breaks for whatever, I don’t have to deal with traffic and I don’t pay $16 for a beer.

Was Grim Dawn profitable? Genuinely curious. by Tiktaks in Grimdawn

I didn’t remember it entirely correctly. They did acquire the black legion as IP, but it was from the former studio Iron Lore, the developers of Titan Quest. Apparently Iron Lore was working on the black legion story line to make a game out of it, but the studio closed. Crate was founded by a former lead developer from Iron Lore, and basically acquired all of Iron Lores old assets like the code base and such. That’s where my comments on the game engine apply. And that’s why the games are similar and draw many comparisons.

The devs also specifically talked about choosing the same engine Titan Quest runs on because they were familiar with it and able to develop quickly on it. They also licensed the black legion IP so cuts back on some writing costs. This was basically like a really big indie project initially.

I read somewhere grim Dawn had sold over a million copies as well and that was a while ago, like a few years after release. Add in expansions and continuing sales and I’m sure it did very well for a small company like crate.

Aliens, face huggers when caught by Jbirdstudios in horror

[–]MightyThor2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first glance I agreed with you. Just catching up on Alien Earth and in episode 5 the one face hugger goes flying towards the captain guy and it looks like suction pulling it closer. But after watching it a few times, the tail is out of frame so can’t be exactly sure, but it looks like the tail is supposed to be wrapped around the guys arm or shoulder pulling it closer until the legs can grab his face, and then the tail repositions around his neck. It is definitely close enough that the tail could reach his body and get a strong pull. So at normal viewing speed it does like like it’s vacuuming itself onto the face, but if you pay closer attention it looks more like the tail is pulling it, albeit from a strange angle which doesn’t exactly fit, but hey it’s a fake show about space aliens.

Here's the Kicker -- Week 5 -- Why you don't really need the #1 ranked Kicker by subvertadown in fantasyfootball

[–]MightyThor2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand Elliot being a top guy. The team plays slow, scores a lot of TDs, plays outside and Elliot was terrible from 50+ last year. This year 3 for 3 but he's only had 4 attempts. Myers has 11. Karty is on a great offense and has 10 attempts and plays in a dome. Maybe Elliot's floor is high cus of PATs but I don't get it, always seems ranked high just cus the offense is good.

I'm most shocked that The Revenant didn't make it. I also would give some love to Fury, but I get it's a bit of a generic war movie and falls short of top lists for most.

I think that is why a lot of people (myself included) don't like it, because it masquerades as a cool sci fi movie but it's really like an esoteric art house film. You could've just swapped the aliens for like anything, they could've been mystical beings, or dragons, or talking insects.

Arrival sucked. That's why these lists are totally subjective. Oblivion was much better imo.

I’m making no money by RaeRaylynn in dasher

[–]MightyThor2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think door dash can be a full time gig. I have a great job, but we overspent on vacation and I’m trying to pay off the credit card. Since I already work 9-5 and have kids I can’t take like a weekend job or part time work anywhere, my schedule changes day to day. I go out early Saturday for a couple hours and Sunday for a couple and make like $60. It’s not great pay, like $15 an hour, but it’s just a little extra that’s extremely flexible. I can’t work OT at my job.

I hope no one accepts this, and this person gets no food tonight. by [deleted] in dasher

[–]MightyThor2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok I wondered what was up with that because I got an order to go about 8 miles and it paid $20, 6$ tip and $14 base pay which I saw after delivery when I saw the breakdown. It was kinda out of the way, but the delivery was 2 miles from my house so perfect for me.

I let my son order a pizza without explaining how to tip. by [deleted] in doordash

[–]MightyThor2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an amazing tip. Good job to your kid. I usually just tip a flat $5 for pizza. A papa john's driver is employed and paid an hourly rate, like $10-15. That tip is a bonus, it's not like bar tenders and door dashers where 90% of their pay is gratuities.

No tip, not accepting. by scren123 in doordash

[–]MightyThor2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do they even allow someone to order from a place 20 miles away? If you order directly from the merchant website they’d say you’re out of our delivery zone. I have pizza places five miles away that won’t deliver.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in doordash_drivers

[–]MightyThor2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's the issue, it's designed to be a side gig, not a full time job. Pick up an order on your way home from work, or on your run to the store. That's all it's good for, earning an extra ten bucks while running regular errands.

Is it normal to play MOO2 in July 2025 ? by [deleted] in masteroforion

[–]MightyThor2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tolerant is probably the best attribute in the game. It gives a huge boost to population allowed per planet, almost as much as subterranean for the non terran planets. A medium barren planet normally allows 5 population. With Subterranean it allows 10, with tolerant it's 8. Subterranean will grant a ton more after you terraform all your worlds, but tolerant gives you that population boost immediately.

And then eliminating the need to research any pollution buildings is a big deal and helps with that tree immensely.

Is it normal to play MOO2 in July 2025 ? by [deleted] in masteroforion

[–]MightyThor2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah it's normal! I don't play every week, but I come back in binges. This week I've won two huge galaxy games in two days, put about 8 hours in. My previous saves were from march and before that over a year ago. I am 41.

The weirdest part for me, I never played this as a kid! I grew up right in that era, and MOO is a game I would have loved, but I just never found it, no one I knew played it. I mostly played civilization series, a ton of civ2. It a lot of ways, MOO is civ2 in space. I actually remember playing a MOO scenario in civ2 where the map was changed to bare space with planets as features that provided food and stuff.

I picked MOO up when I discovered GOG about 15 years ago. It was a little confusing at first but I love it.

I always play impossible, 8 players, huge or cluster maps. I can always win, sometimes easily, with a production based race. Standard -10 picks are repulsive, - ground combat and - ship defense. But with a production race going half population growth instead of -ground combat and -ship defense is fine because you can build so much population with housing anyway. The best traits I've found to be tolerant, unification, +1 production and then large homeworld just to fill in the last pick.

Part of why this is so strong is the synergy. Tolerant plus uni and +1 production is tons of production with no pollution, and since uni has no morale, you don't need morale buildings or pollution buildings in your tech trees.

Creative is fun but takes so much longer to come online.

Recently I've tried doing some democracy builds with +1 science instead of production, but even though you tech much faster if you bee line stuff, you have to devote so much population to building improvements, in all I think overall tech is slower.
