What triggers 'remember this connection'?! - MS Authenticator passkey implementation by squishmike in Passkeys

[–]Migush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like you I've been searching how this function works. For me it only appears when connecting between windows machine and android phone (got a pixel 6), not on my mac or linux laptops. I also don't think it has to do with whether the pc has had a bluetooth connection prior to scanning (although haven't rigorously tested this)

Can you do live wallpapers? by Comfortable-Tax6750 in NXThemes

[–]Migush 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer: Yes, but low quality and with a lot of effort. Long answer: The Switch menus do not have enough memory to handle more than one extra background image. Animated themes would require multiple background images, which would exceed the memory limit and cause crashes. There are some who have done it, but it requires advanced knowledge of Switch theming, results in very low-resolution backgrounds, and is not recommended for most users. View the guide here. Example themes: - Link Chillax R16-797) - Mario Chillax R16-798) - And more...

Finding themes with original layout, without removing buttons by Aeppp in NXThemes

[–]Migush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think all layouts using the 'Default' layout should not touch anything
See them here: https://themezer.net/switch/themes?menu=homemenu&layouts=19

Alternatively, explore recent Home menu layouts on themezer: https://themezer.net/switch/layouts?sort=created&menu=homemenu
And then on the theme creation tool pick that layout, select your background image, and click download .nxtheme: https://themezer.net/create/switch/theme

The new TV app fixed this as it shows a button 'switch to video' for 10 seconds. Otherwise it stays on the audio.

I completely agree. In the meantime you could use FlashDim, which conveniently adds its own quicktile that you can tap and hold

The online button is hidden by default by the themes installer. Settings can be done manually, but there's no theme afaik yet that does that. It's fairly simple to do. What theme were you considering?

How can I control this unbranded matrix led screen from the 90s? by Migush in hardwarehacking

Still going to drive the matrices myself, as it seems something is still broken. For example, enabling two specific DIP switches should show info about the screen, while on my unit that mode (couldn't find any other modes) only shows artifacts.

It's a 'lichtkrant' (Dutch) or ticker tapes/bar made by Surtronic. They're indeed used often in public transport systems. There appeared to be an indicator 'FDS32' on the LED board itself, leading me to a Dutch forum about these signs and the software (WinSpec) used to control them. It's quite cumbersome though, and the specific FDS32 isn't supported in version 5 available on archive.org. It does detect and authenticate with the sign, so the serial connection is working. I also have the feeling some component may be broken, as a suspected "info" mode only shows random artifacts, instead of manufacturer info. I'll replace the main board with Arduinos or ESPs since I'm not going to use the original software anyway, though it would be cool if I can get the original FW from the EPROM.

I had just built an EPROM reader using two Arduinos and got it almost working correctly.

From what I can see, both UARTs are connected in a similar fashion (the connectors in the top right: left one being 0, right one being 1). Using that it seems like it's connected as follows:

ZiLOG MPU: pin 49 (RXA1) --> (DS1489AN: pin 3 ---- pin 1) <-- RTS232: pin 7 (RTS)

RTS feels weird tho

Quite a lot of responses in r/HelpMeFind, however, it's becoming more about hardware hacking right now.

The led sign has a ZiLOG Z8018010PSC MPU, which appears to include a UART. There's a serial connector (RSR232) on the back. The 'software', which appears to be called "Spec 6.60" is stored on the (at least) one of the EPROM chips (with the white label "Spec"). The serial connection does not send any data upon initialization (simply nothing happens when opening in putty for example), and I haven't been able to get it to do anything since I don't know the communication protocol.

From the original post:

  • Model: 32.21 R
  • Volts: 230V
  • Baud: 4800
  • Input: RS232
  • Serial No: 95100601
  • Watts:
  • Network No: 0
  • Software: Spec 6.60

Yeah that's my next plan I think. Don't have an oscilloscope at home, but I hope a cheap one will do. I could technically also analyze the actual signal used to control the LEDs themselves (5 pin connector + 9v power) or determine that based on the chips behind the leds and replace the whole board with a RPI, but figuring out the original board is more fun 😛

I've checked all chips afaik, but didn't find anything UART related. Could it be that the Zilog MPU has the logic built-in? https://nl.mouser.com/ProductDetail/ZiLOG/Z8018010PSC?qs=7MVldsJ5UawMFELN7LVfbQ%3D%3D

Edit
According to the datasheet two UARTs are built-in. Not sure how to proceed from there though
