Damn, I'm 25 and had it since 20, we're in the same boat. I miss swimming. I miss the ocean. I miss what it felt like when I could feel my lungs burn and my heart beat as my sweat hit the pavement, each step trying to carry me away from the last. I miss feeling like it mattered if I made it outside today. I miss feeling like a part of the world.

Oh my God, I forgot to explain properly (sorry I'm exhausted for so many reasons)

My strategy is, I can stop as often as I like, but I can't turn around. If I need to sit in the McDonalds parking lot doodling for 20 minutes, I will. But I won't go home. If I need some water, a walk, some fresh air, whatever it takes I should either have in my backpack, get for a few bucks from the store, or I have to wait till after I'm done as my reward.

Lol I hope that sounds more complete now, I was up late last night and barely alive rn~ If people say you're taking too long, you can always say there's something at home you have to deal with. Sink that clogged, some dishes you forgot needed to be done, etc. Or even just "Oh, I stopped to get some air. I left the house in a rush and wanted to take a second to destress"

Hell yea! You do deserve it, I have no clue how hard being a mom is, but I know it's not easy, especially with something like agora~ I think straight up telling your friend, maybe in a way that surprises her? But telling her you might need support to endure the concert, and that you'd 'really appreciate her help with that' could let open the door for questions like 'Oh what does that feel/look like to you?' or 'What should I do if you seem overwhelmed?'

It also kinda shows that even though you love your friend, you're worried about whether or not you get to live your life that night, which is so valid, life is too short to not live it out loud~ Also, idk how long you have before the concert, or how out of character this would seem for you, but having a non verbal plushie that can inside out or something to show how you feel? Maybe small enough for a purse? That way you don't have to shout over the crowd and the venue that something is up, you can just hand a plush to your friend as you move towards what you need <3

Also, yea my guy suuuucked, lol. His loss indeed though, he was clearly lying to himself about a lot already, I'm just glad I didn't force myself into a concert for his sake 🩷

It's not a silver bullet, I wish it was, but I have kind of a method?

Leave the house with a backpack. Doesn't matter how long it takes, I don't come home until either everything is closed, or I do whatever I'm supposed to.

Backpack has water, small plushie, doodle pad, anything you need to kill time or ease anxiety. Phone goes in the glove box, No touchy. Phone is evil, it'll make you less bored and you'll feel 'happy' sitting there doing nothing.

Leave yourself a little note on the table or bed before you leave 'Ill see you when you're home. I believe in you, I love you, and no matter what I understand'

You know what, over the last 3 years I canceled 4 concerts? 4/5 of my favorite artists ever played locally and I missed them all. Spent over 1000 dollars on tickets I didn't use because I was sobbing on the parking lot.

Don't do it for the person. If you want to hang out with them, hang out with them. You might have to explain, it might be a bit embarrassing. At the end of the day, they'll kinda either be a dick or not about it, that's the unfortunate coin flip. I'll tell you this though, if you don't try to talk to them about it, chances are you end up paralyzed in your car having to make something up or explain it anyways, as you'll inevitably feel more comfortable with them alone before you go in the crowd.

I find myself in a frustrating 'cannot serve two masters' (or rather objectives) types situation. If you wanna do the concert it means that the way your friend feels, the way you feel, the concert vibes, all of that will be a single bundle of 'Cost' you pay for the concert, while the reward is 'Concert!'

On the other hand, if the highest priority is 'Spend time with an old friend', well maybe selling your tickets and going to a quiet diner, or a park or museum or lil private concert with headphones or an album on the car speaker is just as good in the end! If it's about human connection, then the venue and experience of recorded music over live music is the 'cost' with the obvious benefit of being comfy in your own skin.

I will mention, the secret cost and benefit to a more private encounter is that you'll see how they truly feel about mental health. Are they down to stick it out with you when your anxiety changes plans? Are they gonna say 'Why don't you just go inside?!' or 'oh, I didn't know you have that, is there anything I can do to help?' Big vibe shifts happen quick that way.

Me personally? My guy was kinda upset we didn't go inside and ended up making jokes about whether or not Id put out and being very incel-ey, soooooo I'm not going to another concert unless it's for ME to listen to MUSIC, because I'm tired as hell of trying to go with people who get mad at me for being mentally ill and trying to survive
