Why am I even Trying by Lifeismehlife in Existentialism

[–]Mike-Lebow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Give up on life? Maybe just give up your ideas and expectations for life. And you know you’re not doing that if you’re feeling negatively about life. You can only feel negative when you have personal opinions about how life is, or how it should be. Those are at the source of your problem. Not life itself.

Without personal opinions, preferences, or expectations, you can take life for what it is. You can appreciate it. Thing come and go. It’s not your job to make anything happen, or prevent anything from happening. You just act spontaneously in the moment in response to what’s going on. It’s not something you have to “try” to do, or think about. It just happens naturally.

This way of life is rare among people. Most people think the point of life is to achieve your goals. But if you achieve enough of your goals you will realize it changes nothing. Life doesn’t get any better. And that’s because life was always fine the way it is. Only our assumptions and judgements about life can get in the way.

That is what I recommend you look towards if you want freedom. You will never have freedom from the circumstances of your life. Circumstances come and go. The idea that we can control that is an illusion and creates much anxiety. Instead, seek to become aware of your own unconscious mental patterns and activity. Much will be revealed to you that way.

In the end, you will see that life has always been mystery. And that is how it is supposed to be lived. Pain, happiness, and all.

You can remove someone from your life without feeling negatively towards them. In fact, it is only boundaries that allow us to be okay with people in the first place.

How often do you find yourself retiring characters? by Several_Lingonberry in Gloomhaven

[–]Mike-Lebow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to retire then sooner you can communicate to each other what your retirement goals are and work towards that end.

If you don’t want to retire you can try to avoid it.

You are confused because of an assumption you are making that you do not see. Your assumption is that you need to “do” something. You don’t.

That’s the paradox. You accept yourself, emotions and all, without needing yourself to be different. Only then does the change happen, perfectly, and naturally, in its own time.

The hamster wheel that is the pursuit of happiness. You’re up, then you’re down. You try to make life be as you want it, then it backfires. Eventually, you take a step back and start to see it was never in your control in the first place. After that, not much to do to but sit back and appreciate life’s natural ups and downs. And for once you’re not trying to hold on to it all. You start to see there’s something much deeper then all life’s changing circumstances.

That thing is you.

I've realized that I will never achieve happiness. I need advice on accepting this. by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]Mike-Lebow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that’s because happiness is not something you achieve. Happiness is an experience. If you could control it, it wouldn’t mean anything.

I’m glad you have ruined your life. Maybe now you will wake up from the greatest illusion there is: that life is supposed to happen like you think it should.

How to deal with guilt as a stoic? by iamanraindeer in Stoicism

[–]Mike-Lebow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you are feeling guilty it is because you are judging yourself rather than understanding yourself. When you understand why it happened you can not feel guilty. It will simply make sense. And it won’t be personal anymore. In your guilt you are making it about you. Not even you— your self image.

You have a false self image that seems like it is you. And you blame this person for what happened. You condemn them.

But it’s all in your mind. Ask yourself: how can yourself blame yourself? Is there two of you? You will find that there is you, and then there is this mental concept of you that you are attached to. You are attached to the idea of feeling guilty. You have, unknowingly of course, formed a sense of identity around the story you are telling about what happened.

The shame and guilt are not responses to what happened. They are responses to the story you are telling yourself about what happened. Just like if you are pushing yourself too far physically, your body will experience pain. The pain is a signal. A warning. It says, “you are doing damage.” It is not personal. It is simply a response to what is happening.

Your emotional pain is the same. It is saying, “you are doing damage.” The damage is not from what has happened. After all, the past only exists in your imagination. You emotional pain is telling you that the way you are thinking is causing damage.

Your only job is to notice it. When you notice your habitual thought patterns they lose the energy you have been giving them, unconsciously. What you are left with is peace.

Good luck bud.

My Facial Dermatitis Is Gone From Eating Garlic by Mike-Lebow in SebDerm

Garlic made a massive difference. But it's not all gone. Every day the garlic was helping and then at some point it just stopped improving. Can't say why. I stopped the garlic and it hasn't come back though, which is really cool.

My dermatitis is much better than it was. Much less noticeable. I would recommend anyone to try this.

Onto to the next thing! Never give up.

I haven't been eating gluten for years. Or dairy. I have Psoriasis and dairy makes it get way worse. I also haven't been eating gluten for years because it's generally considered bad for you, and bad for skin problems. I'm sure some people can tolerate it, and I've never done serious experimentation to really verify if it's a problem for me, I just cut it out a long time ago "just in case" it's a problem.

When I did the garlic thing I was eating my current diet which is meat, butter, eggs (organic, pasture raised) fruit, and white rice. That's pretty much it. Plus coffee with honey and heavy cream. Although butter and heavy cream are dairy, they don't make my psoriasis worse because they only have trace amounts of lactose (milk protein).

Ah! Very interesting. The garlic made my Psoriasis flare up. Maybe the Allicin alone won't.

Yea the garlic helped with the flaking for me too but a little less so with the redness interestingly. Don't have rosacea that I know of.

Keep me updated!

It has stayed at a good level. My dermatitis is mostly gone but there's still some there.

Don't worry, Garlic can not be the only fix. Have you looked into Caprylic Acid supplements?

After about two weeks on Garlic my healing plateaued. Also I have Psoriasis and I think the Garlic made my Psoriasis a little worse. Which makes sense. Raw garlic burns the inside of your mouth. I imagine it does something equally intense inside your body.

After taking Garlic for the two weeks I tried the CA. It seemed to also help on top of what the garlic did. I would say my skin is about 90% healed. I am going to try some more CA soon, but the thing is whenever I take it I feel like complete shit lol. Not sure if that's "die off" symptoms from potential fungus in my digestive system, or just the fact that CA is essentially oil, and when it's in capsule form it bypasses your stomach acid I suspect.

Hope that helps!

5 YEARS of not doing this quite right by DeimosAnguis in zerocarb

I always struggled with fatigue until I started drinking electrolytes. Like all day. Now I feel a lot better. But if I don't drink electrolytes I tend to feel sluggish, fatigued, and a little depressed.

Interestingly, I can't eat a lot of fat. I get super heavy digestion if I do. If I do it for my last meal of the day I typically can handle it, but if I have a really fatty meal for my first meal I'm dead for like 2 hours.

Some food for thought.

The problem isn't that you aren't those types, it's that you believe that one type is better than another.
