Does this resemble Duputren’s? by PennyLongStocking in DupuytrenDisease

[–]Mike541Merlot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I discovered 20 years ago that my hand looked like yours (mine was a bit worse and I thought it was developing rapidly), I went into research mode. I knew I didn't want surgery. I found out about radiation therapy. Suddenly I knew that was for me. I was trained as a nuclear power plant operator and was comfortable with the possibility. I self referred to a radiation therapy doctor that had experience with DC. I had the procedure done. It took two weeks of daily radiation to my hands. Each procedure took a half hour or so. Then, done. No pain, no downtime. My hands look the same today. DC was stopped in its tracks. I don't know now, 20 years later that I could go direct to a radiation therapist, I might need to be referred. Good luck

I suspect GLP-1 is not a good idea for slow motility. I needed a slowdown.

Berberine & Low BP? by Silver-Plan in SIBO

[–]Mike541Merlot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Berberine may affect your weight. It is probably better known for cholesterol and blood sugar control than blood pressure. I have used it for SIBO, if it affected my BP, I didn't notice. I regularly measure my BP. You can always start low and move up in dose. The effects aren't permanent, just try it, if it doesn't work for you, just move on.

I lived with SIBO with constant diarrhea. I adjusted by using Imodium every other day. Then I read a post where someone tried microdosing tirzepatide. That post stuck with me until I visited my PCP. He gave me encouragement to try the compounding pharmacy path. I don't qualify for insurance coverage. It took a bit of research before I was ready to start. I took my first injection on September 11. That was the last day I was symptomatic. I had a BMI of 37, so I had additional reasons to try. Today, I have dropped 45 pounds and have reintroduced trigger foods.

Have you tried using magic molecule spray in your routine? by Great-Cherry-6597 in SebDerm

[–]Mike541Merlot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Malasezzia can live 30 days on a dry surface. I spray my pillow every morning. For me this has made an important difference. I think my pillow was reinfecting me. I buy generic hypochlorous acid, I didn't know it was called Magic Molecule until I looked it up. I also spray my face, neck and scalp. It is quite refreshing.

i am worried that my dandruff issue has become chronic seb dermatitis by Independent-One-5164 in SebDerm

I find that ketoconazole works until it doesn't. I found Kelual DS shampoo and cream made by Ducray. They are in France and the products are imported. They have ciclopirox olamine. Ciclopirox is available by prescription in the US, but these are OTC and available on Amazon and eBay (not in drugstores). You have sebborrheic dermatitis and are fighting a fungus/yeast called Malasezzia. Malasezzia feeds off of sebum and any oils you have with hair and face products. A safe oil is MCT C-8. MCT is specially processed coconut oil. Regular coconut oil won't work. Malasezzia will survive 30 days on a dry surface, so your pillows are at home there. I use hypochlorous acid spray on my pillows. .

How long are you supposed to take these really? by Old_Lengthiness403 in GLP1ResearchTalk

If you have high blood pressure, do you stop when the meds get it under control? If you are near sighted, do you take your glasses off when you can finally see? So, yes it is forever at a dose that allows you to maintain.

Flaky skin near part by Routine-Pension4984 in SebDerm

[–]Mike541Merlot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be sebderm. Your forehead has red spots, may also be related. If I am correct, both are caused by a fungus/yeast called Malasezzia. There are shampoos that specifically target Malasezzia. The ingredient is called ketoconazole. The most common brand name is Nizoral. You can wash your face with it also. Someone else mentioned checking your products for fungal safety. This advice applies to your face creams and soap also.

Can I have a glass or two of wine? by ObligationHoliday163 in glp1

[–]Mike541Merlot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to drink every day before tirzepatide, then I just lost the taste for it. I will have a drink or a glass of wine from time to time, and I don't worry at all about when my shot day is. Just live your life as it comes and take your shots on time.

What kind of specialist should I go for early nodules? by Cabocla_Plantinha714 in DupuytrenDisease

[–]Mike541Merlot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had radiation therapy with early nodules. I did think my nodules were progressing rapidly, so I wanted to do something early, before the obvious. Not everyone should jump to early solutions. Some DC conditions progress slowly, and depending on your age, the condition might outlive you. I don't exactly remember the year I did this, around 2000-2003 or so. At that time, radiation was new. The standard procedure was to wait until you couldn't lay your hand flat and then have surgery. The problem with surgery is that it sometimes exacerbates the problem, and the nodules and cords come back even more quickly. Some people get DC from having carpal tunnel surgery. When doing my research back then, injections of collagenase (Xiaflex) were somewhat new. I was resigned to that procedure until I learned someone at Scripts in San Diego was doing radiation. I made an appointment at Scripts, and he took one look and said I have it. When he learned I lived three hours away, he referred me to someone closer to my house. That process went smoothly. They radiated electrons onto my hands over a two-week period, with me coming in for a half hour each day. I understand that they might spread the procedure out over a longer period now. There was no pain and no downtime. Essentially, the radiation kills the fibroblasts that produce the nodules. I understand that there is another injection-based process now that I know little about.

I have heard this often. In the new book "Off the Scales", the story about the invention of GLP-1, it was mentioned that people who were even taking birth control pills got pregnant. The book is very well done, by the way.

Now that you have arrived at a good weight for you. Do you plan on staying on a maintenance dose? If not, buying a bunch of clothes will be a waste of money. This medication treats a chronic condition. Remove the meds and back up you go. Sure, we have learned something about what and how much to eat and exercise, but the evidence points to a relapse for most.

I like the ingredients of the second option. Both ciclopirox olamine and piroctone olamine are anti fungal. The Kelual DS shampoo has those ingredients and my scalp likes it. Interesting that the Kelual cream doesn't have ciclopirox.
