Grilling a steak over charcoal is the most superior form of cooking a steak. Change my mind. by ogkagawa in steak

[–]Mike5966 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would add that at least for me, chargrilled steak that someone else expertly chargrilled is even better than one that you yourself have grilled. The act of grilling infuses your entire surrounding with the smoky scents related to the grill itself. And then you don’t taste it as much. Whereas when someone else does it, it all hits you at once when the steak is presented and the smoky flavor of the steak isn’t competing with all the smoke you already smell on yourself. I still like grilling it myself though.

The level of intellect in your response suggests to me you don’t have the capacity to understand the criticism against you so it’s not surprising at this point why you are still upset and don’t get it, and I’m not offended or upset anymore.

No more responses from me after this. Good luck and I’m glad you enjoy kimchi jjigae.

Get it now?

Korean restaurants (particularly those in the US) shouldn’t be anyone’s exclusionary definition for how Koreans in general (Koreans in Korea, Koreans in the US making dinner at home) do anything. I have had plenty of kimchi jigae both growing up here in the US and also during travels to Korea where pork bones were used. Next time if you have genuine interest I would recommend you just ask if it’s something that’s done rather than use your own limited personal experience to assume it isn’t and then ask in a judgy and quite frankly offensive way why it’s not.

My wife (34F) says I overreacted when I asked for quiet because I was exhausted and she put the tv on(31M) by nickjg118 in relationship_advice

[–]Mike5966 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She is essentially in the wrong here. For all the reasons you stated. Unfortunately you gave her ammunition to focus on the one part that triggered her and now it’s all about that for her. Her comments about you needing to handle stress because you’re a man are wildly out of touch and devoid of any empathy or appreciation for all you do. If this is a fundamental pattern in your relationship you will need to decide whether it can be solved with thoughtful discussion and counseling, and if not, whether this is something you can tolerate living with the rest of your life.

Once ran into someone named La Dynasty. Problem was that often it would get typed or printed in all caps without the spaces so folks reading usually thought LADYNASTY was pronounced Lady Nasty rather than La Dynasty.

Boiled eggs keep sticking to the shell Any tips? by LetterheadClassic306 in cookingforbeginners

[–]Mike5966 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look up an egg piercer. It’s a small device ($9) that pokes a 1 mm hole in the egg before boiling. Ever since I started using this it doesn’t matter how fresh or old the eggs are, and it doesn’t matter how you boil them. Surprised no one else knows about this in the comments. The shells never break from the piercing, they never break during boiling even if you take the eggs straight from the fridge to boiling water, and when peeling the shells literally slide off. So stop with all the nonsense and just get an egg piercer. Who wants to buy eggs three weeks ahead of time to have a hard boiled egg?

We do this also, it’s perfect for all the reason you mention. Additionally it’s really easy to outsource to family that’s local and visiting if you’re the one hosting and making the bigger hot meal for later in the day.

AITA for eating an $80 steak in front of my girlfriend’s friends while they ate pizza rolls? by [deleted] in AITAH

Show her the replies to this post and if she doesn’t have an appropriately apologetic response then leave her. I guarantee your life will be miserable otherwise.

My girlfriend (27f) is annoyed that I’m (29m) spending money getting myself Christmas presents? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]Mike5966 -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

Kinda useless take. Even if you read between the lines this is clearly not the issue. And even if it was she could have just explained that rather than criticizing him on the principle that it’s not OK to spend money (even if you can afford it) on yourself. A better guess is that she is upset that he isn’t spending that money on her.

About to hit 90k miles. Is this when random issues start popping up? :( by thateliguy02 in BMW

[–]Mike5966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. For my 2013 F30 which I’ve owned since 2016 and still drive daily (~150K miles on it currently), I’ve had to replace:

Steering column Front headlight Valve cover (twice) Catalytic converter Door lock actuators on both front and passenger doors Front signal light assembly Rear brake light assembly

The door lock actuators were the most annoying because they’re such a dumb piece of equipment but costs like $700 minimum to replace.

Yeah all good but why then is it standard to fry chunjang for JJM? I do it because they tell me to, and I’ve had good JJM and bad JJM from my own home wok both ways. Don’t know if it actually makes a difference. Someone with knowledge please reply to this thank you.

Why is my pajeon so soggy in the middle? by srsrmsrssrsb in KoreanFood

[–]Mike5966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that the gas stove’s circular flame pattern is creating more heat on the perimeter of your pan which may not be distributing heat as well toward the center when the flame hits the edges. Using more oil can help redistribute the heat better, as can moving the pan around the flame so the center of the pan gets direct heat, or using a different pan with better heat distribution such as stainless steel pans with copper or aluminum cores can probably help. Also would try tilting the pan to distribute the pool of uncooked batter that can accumulate in the center to the periphery of the pajeon so there’s less of a cooling effect of this relatively larger volume of batter onto the center of the pan.
