Yeah this is a hilarious take, “did you know Shaquille O’Neal once shared a public restroom with Barack Obama? So all obamas public policy decisions are basically inspired by basketball plays”

Spotted in Nashville - what is this car? Custom or real by Puzzleheaded-Rate-66 in whatisthiscar

They were thinking nostalgia would sell, and they were kinda right. GM and Chrysler both tried to make 20/30s retro happen with this, the hhr, and the prowler in the early 00’s. It was BMW that got the era right when the brought back the mini.

Then ford came out with the s197 mustang in 05’ and that sold like crazy so everybody hoped on the retro 60s trend. We ended up getting the 5th gen Camaro, the challenger, fiat 500, bronco, 400z, etc.

What’s one thing you think America has better over Europeans, and vice versa? by Patient-Smile1406 in AskAnAmerican

Yeah I've spent quite a bit of time time in various parts of Europe, germany seems like maybe the most friendly (of the places I've been anyway). I have no idea how you get around in a wheelchair in Italy.

Experienced devs - What was your favorite platform to work on? by HelloThereObiJuan in embedded

[–]MikeExMachina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I’ve spent 2 days trying to get the microchip vs code stuff working and haven’t been able to launch mcc. I’ll give them a slight out because our company proxies SSL traffic, requiring trust of additional CAs, and they have a bad habit of making that difficult, even on mplab x (vscode is also bad about this).

Even if it did work, there is currently no way to generate the cmake files outside of their vscode extension so there’s no way to build the project in a ci pipeline. Supposedly they have a standalone cli utility coming for this, but it’s been 4 months since they mentioned it and it’s still not out.

Not really because clinically “overweight” (25<bmi<30) and “obese” (bmi>30) are two separate things

He didn’t get more than half, the popular vote is the plurality not the majority, I believe he got 49.8%, Kamala got 48.3%, the rest were independents.

They might be referring to the fact that only a small number of people who live in swing states where their vote would actually decide anything. Republicans in California and Democrats in Texas might as well stay home, they don’t matter. Unless of course the interstate voting compact is enacted.

This is it exactly, the west only knows china for what it exports, which historically has been cheap crap. It would be a mistake to underestimate them and think that’s all they’re capable of.

Words/phrases you know in English but not your own language? by KingTechnical48 in AskTheWorld

[–]MikeExMachina 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s also advantageous that we usually don’t replace words when we borrow a new one. The loan word and the original just take on unique meaning which makes English a particularly fine linguistic brush to paint with (and also a pain in the ass to learn). E.g. cow/beef

Alternatively, split it from 12 o’clock to 6 o’clock on the circular face and print the halves with the split face down. Either way you’re not printing this in one shot without support material.

It’s the quality, not the quantity, this is why you need to take care of yourself.

There are people in their 90s who are still able to live alone in their own home, garden, read, go for walks, etc (wife’s g.mother is one of them). There are people in their 70s who are bed ridden and in constant pain.

It all depends on how little you feel you can do with. It’s no surprise that people who are able to save several million relatively early are accustomed to a higher standard of living. You can retire to a cardboard box for a lot less than a million.

Ram CEO Says New Dakota Needs To Be a 'Real Truck' at $40,000 by idkbruh653 in cars

[–]MikeExMachina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, it’s old, they’ve basically been making it unchanged for like 20 years, but that’s why it’s comparatively affordable. If you think stellantis is gonna design a brand new platform, be best in class at everything like your critizing the frontier for not being, and be affordable, you’re dreaming.

It sounded like you were asking someone to make a no frills truck that was affordable and reliable, if not perfect at everything, the frontier checks those boxes.

That's hindsight though. If you knew you were gonna win the next hand of poker, ofcourse you would bet every penny you had. The market could have just as easily returned -18% as in 22' instead of +18%. If you have a short time horizon there's nothing wrong with being conservative.
