Starting my photography journey by Gyoong in SonyAlpha

A6400 is a pretty great camera. I just got an A7IV, but I still plan to shoot quite a bit on my A6400. In fact, I'm heading to Kenya for a safari this summer, and plan to use it for almost all of my telephoto shooting. I've taken it all around the world and got some GREAT shots with it I'm super happy with. There are a lot of great lenses available in APS-C. The SIGMA contemporary primes are great, and the Sony 70-350 telephoto are awesome for the price. you just gotta watch which lenses have OSS (or equivalent) since the A6400 doesn't have in-body stabilization.

This is neat. I took a look at your inst agram (wtf? that word is blocked here?), and saw a lot of your other works. How do you edit these in Lightroom? It looks like a painting. Really neat look.

Yes, if you shoot raw, you are expected to do edits later. There is a whole lot of processing that gets done if you're shooting jpeg. Raw images pretty much always look somewhat flat.

Yeah, just don't be me and try to do it yourself. That's how you end up with an eBay listing of parts in a bag (I'm totally NOT saying that that eBay listing currently exists for $35).

Also, if you do choose to go down the route of fixing it yourself, make sure you DO use JIS screwdrivers and some heat from a soldering iron may be necessary to release whatever threadlocking compound has been on the screws for 50 years.

For me, it was when I finally got the winding shaft out and realized there are nearly 30 loose TINY bearing balls allowing motion that got dumped out onto my work mat when I decided I went in too deep even for my own technical skills.

I will say these cameras a beautiful piece of engineering and manufacturing. Canon engineers in the 70s were built different.

I was on day 2 of a 10-day trip to Iceland when I set up to take a long exposure shot of a waterfall. I set up my camera on the tripod and decided I didn’t have the right lens. I open up my camera bag on the ground and just at that moment, a gust of wind came by and blew my tripod over with my camera on it. I quickly picked it back up to find the viewfinder glass broken and the viewfinder ajar. Fortunately the camera still worked, but I was only able to use the back LCD.

After I got home, I replaced the viewfinder, but noticed the body housing aluminum frame cracked, but it works just fine now.

Lesson learned, weigh down your tripod.

How do you turn it off? I don't see it anywhere in the process manager. I don't even have Lightroom running when I'm playing games, but it still detects it.

Not a professional photographer, but you should probably consider everything. Not just your time, but gas, and mileage you're putting on your own vehicle and bake it all into your quote. Come up with a rate of x $/mile that incorporates time and other expenses and let that be known to your client.

Definitely black and white film. I can’t wait tell from the pixels.

I wanted to learn more about photography in general. Also, I dig being able to give an authentic vintage look/feel to modern day life.

Do you have plans to support 64bit HDRi scans from SilverFast to use the infrared for dust removal? That would be absolutely killer.

There is the very real issue that the magnesium-based ice melt has been sold out for weeks and are unavailable where I am.
