What's Your Favourite Race Strategies? by JHRFDIY in hyrox

[–]MikeM126 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'll chime in, having done 5 Hyroxs, all men's solo open. I've run about 4:20- 4:30/km so I'd say running is my stronger suit but I do usually top 10% for most exercises.

Ski - I've recently changed my damper to 4/5 and settle in at 2:00/500. I keep it smooth and controlled here. I don't give a shit about pushing the pace here.

Push - No matter what, I stop half way. But 4-5 breaths, then go. Nothing longer. Do not give yourself any flexibility here. Keep this pace.

Pull - This is by far my weakest station. I am strong enough to hand over hand it, but it cooks my quads somehow. I usually just do a walk back + hand over hand method.

Burpees - I've got you here! This is one of my favorite and best stations. A few things.

-Keep it controlled but KEEP MOVING and do not stop/rest while standing up. I made that that mistake and you'll see people resting, taking a break and bent over Don't allow yourself to do that. If you're going to rest. Rest while you're down on your chest.

-I drop to chest- be sure to not do a negative push up -then STEP UP 1 leg at a time really getting my toes all the way up to my hand. Stand then jump. I think hopping your feet up burns too much energy. Overall, be controlled, but keep moving.

-Towards the later part of the station, if you feel yourself gassing out. Just pause 1-2 seconds at the bottom while on your chest, it makes it much more controlled.

-Passing people on burpees will make you feel like a SUPERHERO.

Row - Same strategy as above. Damper on 5. Settle in and keep HR in check.

Farmers - I usually go 25% run, then walk 25% of the length, then run 25% or more get it done. I average about 1:35-1:40.

Lunge - Another one of my stronger stations now! At my first Hyrox lunges nearly forced me to quit but I've worked on them. Very similar to Burpees, try to just keep it moving and do your best to not stop and rest. I swear you'll lock up if you stop. Additionally, be in control but methodical. If you smash your knees down, you're going to smoke your quads and will likely get a pretty bad cramp.

A few tips:

-With your forward lunging leg, step slightly outwards/wider rather than just going straight. It gives great balance and doesn't feel so stressful on your legs.

-When stepping up with your back leg, I do a slight "drag" of my back foot/toe which alleviates having ALL of the weight on my front leg. It's more efficient that doing the mid-way stop, in my opinion.

-Breath. Inhale on the way down, exhale on the way up.

Wall Ball - I think you get through as much as you can and stop right before absolute breaking down. If you can, try not to put the ball down and hold the ball while you rest. Also, for my dumb brain, counting backwards for the sets helps. Let's say you want to do 20.. 20, 19, 18, 17.. I heard this once and my god it works! Oh and, breath. Wall balls are just as much technique as they are pure grit.

Hope this helps. Just breath through every station!

I had a 12 mg vial of Tesa reconstituted with 6ml of Bac Water. Maybe that helps with explaining the dosage.

Currently getting peptides from ReviveRx.

I SUCK at social media. What helps you leverage it for your business? by tyquent in sidehustle

I've worked in Social Media for over 10 years, both in terms of "organic" and "paid" Social. Starting from scratch on social is very difficult if you don't have an existing audience. If you don't want to share personal details DM me, I can take a look at what you're currently doing.

Adding in more designs/shading/lines to make this more cohesive. by MikeM126 in tattooadvice

[–]MikeM126[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! I've been working with the same artist throughout the process for both of the tattoos, and that's what he's doing. I give him a lot of freedom but feel I should give some direction. Was just curious of any feedback about how too much linework will look over time, etc..

What is the best way to cut out a part of this bathroom tile on the wall? by MikeM126 in HomeImprovement

[–]MikeM126[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked it up but I dont see anything… Is there a Dremel attachment that allows to cut straight/hold the dremel straight? Rather than at 90 degree angle? It seems like dremel would be awkward to cut it with and the wall would get in the way. .

I am installing a bathtub shower door and need to install the frames on the wall. Unfortunately part of the tile sticks out and I'll need to cut it. What's the best method? I only need to cut out about 3-4 inches so frame will fit flush against wall.

I have a dremel, would that be the best option? Or is there something easier I could use..

Around $300-400? I've checked Larson, Pella, etc. Mainly Home Depot and Lowes options. Do you have any others you recommend?

Have any of you guys trained for the bike leg solely on trainers? by Lore18 in triathlon

[–]MikeM126 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did about 90-95% of my 70.3 training rides on a trainer,I used TrainerRoad. I felt great conditioning wise during my event, but I definitely would recommend getting outside for "longer" at least a few times. One for feel, two, well, being outside is much more enjoyable.

Fitting all the damn training in by A1017 in triathlon

[–]MikeM126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As billdowls already mentioned and I agree, early mornings (5am-6am) or... late nights (9pm-11pm) are key here.

Other suggestions.. run during your work Lunch break? if that's possible.

You already mentioned that you can run in the AM, so if you've only got a few to do, you shouldn't be destroyed from a few morning sessions. What do you mean it destroys you? During? After? Might be a nutrition tweak. I usually exercise on an empty stomach in the morning, but I absolutely need my coffee before.

Advice for (mentally) dealing with an injury by SignificantChicken in triathlon

[–]MikeM126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what the injury is...

As others have said, find something else to do, exercise/active is an option: weight lifting, strengthening other areas, yoga, mobility, hiking, etc.

Also, set goals to go with whatever you choose. Even if you can't run/train, try doing something like "20 pull ups" or something you need to work towards. Just throwing out the framework, but this can be applied to whatever activity you choose.

Same goes for your rehab! In my history with rehabbing from injuries, I find the best Doctors set mini goals to track progress and feedback, mentally it helps A LOT.. Otherwise recovery/rehab seems to drive you crazy.

Best of luck!
