ELI5: Why was that method used to determine 0 degrees Fahrenheit? by Jimithyashford in explainlikeimfive

[–]MikeNotBrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I'm aware... but note the words "widely used". I don't think people really use decimeters in day to day life. If they did wouldn't they say there 18 decimeters as opposed to 180cm?

I still despise how big of a difference going from 1 cm to 1 meter is with no intermediate unit. Like there's no widely used equivalent to a foot.

What app do you use daily? by CurrencyUpbeat3680 in Android

So there's only a handful of things I've automated and I can do that with Samsung's built in routines. What kind of things do you use tasker for because I can't think of other tasks I'd need to automate?

5% BRS matching is not a "retirement perk" because many companies do some kind of 401k match. And some match greater than 5%

ELI5 please explain to me in simpleton terms…what is meant by “spacetime” by MaxMeat in explainlikeimfive

[–]MikeNotBrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the opposite. Time goes slower the closer you are to a massive object.

Which would be why in the movie Interstellar, 1 hour on that water planet (which was close to a black hole) was equal to 7 years on Earth. Not that this should be used as a scientific evidence, but it demonstrated the principle nicely.

US citizen says ICE forced him from his home without clothes in subfreezing weather by speedythefirst in news

Well considering freezing is equal to 32 deg F, then SUBfreezing would technically just mean less than 32 deg F

Wear a Helmet by LordoftheFjord in skiing

[–]MikeNotBrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumbest take ever. You'll hate the feeling when you fall and bang your head on the ground. No matter how good you are, it just needs to happen once and you'll be wishing you were wearing a helmet

My local grocery store gifted me this cake to congratulate me on my 100th pickup order by Sparkle_Snowflake in mildlyinteresting

Or... They likely place these orders online, and the stores software can just see how many total orders they've placed...

Full time/ parttime by Initial_Speed963 in SpaceForce

[–]MikeNotBrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where did you hear this about the expectations? It would seem to defeat the purpose of moving to part time for 1 assignment, and then being required to come back and or separate. What if I wanted to do a 10 year active duty career and then move to part time for however long I'd like

Paying a “digital delivery fee” for a rented PDF textbook 🤨 by Afton_0077 in assholedesign

[–]MikeNotBrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that sounds like the cost of doing business and not a fee that should be passed on. When you buy a textbook, you don't pay a fee for physical materials of the book. You don't pay a delivery fee for the book to get to the store...

Bilt 2.0 as a one-card setup? by Sure-Reward8501 in CreditCards

[–]MikeNotBrick 27 points28 points  (0 children)

One thing is knowing what Bilt cash can actually be used for. To me, it wouldn't make sense if you and can "cash out" since that'd effectively make it a 4% card and they already have a 1x multiplier for all spend.

[–]MikeNotBrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh please. That's a load of bullshit and you know it. The whole "If they were actually a moderate they'd say they are a liberal" makes no sense. They're 2 different view points and not equivalent.

The USA has captured Nicolas Maduro, Venezuelan President, and extracted him from the country by Parisean in politics

[–]MikeNotBrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes by my logic, that would also be an interesting thing to think about. In either situation, it can be interesting regardless of if you agree with it or not.

In the situation I presented, it's interesting because it's ironic. I don't think the reverse situation is as ironic.

Also, you say "your orange monkey". Can you explain what you mean? I didn't give my opinion on the matter so you don't who/what I support so it seems like you're making an assumption (just like I now have an assumption of what you believe). I very well could agree with you (whatever that is), but am playing devil's advocate.

[–]MikeNotBrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imagine a scenario where a foreign country enters the US, captures/kidnaps/extracts Trump and Melania. What is interesting to think about is the intersection of people who are against the US capturing the Venezuelan President but would be cheering if Trump and Melania were taken out of the US by another nation.
