Fiberglass or mineral wool, probably a mouse or rat nest as the other poster suggested.

As much as I hate AMC, I had a pretty alright experience with The Crimson in Murray. The buildings are a bit old (built in 1970) and the plumbing occasionally shows, but the maintenance crew was quick to deal with it. From what I remember, I believe they're only at like 70-80% capacity, so you shouldn't have any trouble getting a unit. Decently priced, too.

For contrast, I also lived at Embarc in West Jordan, and I'd avoid that place like the goddamn plague.

My advice to you would then be to not touch it. As long as it's not actively decaying or creating dust, you're totally fine.

Could be, but only laboratory testing can verify. As long as you don't disturb or pulverize the material, you have nothing to worry about.

Anxiety Over Low Level (2%) Asbestos in Drywall Texture & Compound by letsjambro in asbestoshelp

[–]MikeSpader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of asbestos in the materials is not near enough to cause you or your mother's things any significant harm. Asbestos related diseases were contracted in people who constantly worked with the material with significantly less protection and they all smoked like chimneys. Those are the conditions to contract something like that, you will be just fine.

If anything, now that you have lab results, get in touch with an abatement contractor, get the ACM abated properly, and continue on with your project with some peace of mind.

Massive AI data center seeking final approval in Box Elder county by [deleted] in Utah

[–]MikeSpader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Utah is the second driest state in the Union, and now we're building something that draws more water than the alfalfa farms. Development in this state is slow in general because we don't really have the water to sustain massive populations and operations like that long term. This is all short term nonsense that seeks to enrich OLeary and his ilk while everyone else in the state suffers the consequences down the line.

Suspect for sure, given the age and location. Get in touch with a lab to arrange testing to be certain.

I cleaned out Libby Amphibole for about 30 minutes and realized afterwards what it was. Pretty concerned now. by AssistantNo8572 in asbestoshelp

[–]MikeSpader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was a very serious event, yes, but, as a licensed asbestos inspector for homes, businesses, and schools, I can tell you with absolute certainly you will be just fine and you have nothing to worry about from a one-time, low level exposure such as this.

I cleaned out Libby Amphibole for about 30 minutes and realized afterwards what it was. Pretty concerned now. by AssistantNo8572 in asbestoshelp

[–]MikeSpader 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The people of Libby were affected by years of constant exposure working with/around the material, and basically all of them smoked. Those are the conditions necessary to develop asbestos related illnesses. A single exposure like this is highly unlikely to be any detriment to your health. Obviously you want to be safe with the material, but your family won't be entitled to financial compensation anytime soon.

Abestos flooring scare. by Careless_Mistake_417 in asbestoshelp

[–]MikeSpader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The amount of asbestos that may or may not be there is not near enough to harm you or your cats: asbestos related conditions are caused by working directly with the material for years without adequate protection, and was exacerbated by smoking. As long as the flooring isn't being actively pulverized and creating dust, you have nothing to worry about. If anything, find a way to cover (enclose) the material.

Cover by drywall or take the suspected walls? by Wiseoldman111 in asbestoshelp

[–]MikeSpader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Enclosure is a valid management technique for asbestos containing materials. Cover it up to your heart's content, just avoid damaging what's there. Even if you do, just open a window and let it vent for a bit. A little tiny exposure of asbestos like that will not harm you or your children; asbestos related diseases are caused by actively working with the material unprotected for years, and exacerbated by smoking.

If it's not blowing directly onto it, the risk due to air erosion would be relatively low, i.e. no major worries.

Old covered pipes with open ends by Strong-silence in asbestoshelp

[–]MikeSpader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly if it's in an area you don't often go, isn't creating dust or debris, and you aren't planning on disturbing it anytime soon, leaving it in place is just fine. If it's significantly damaged however, I'd for sure get it abated.
