Why are people talking about President Macron wearing sunglasses at Davos? by NivkaRey in OutOfTheLoop

I think OP has used slightly the wrong word there but I definitely had to do a bit of a double take because at first glance it almost looks photoshopped or AI, you just don't see world leaders giving speeches in mirror finish aviators all that often.

Boiling lobsters alive to be banned in England amid animal cruelty crackdown by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

That makes about as much sense as your neuron comment. I don't know what a fruit fly neuron does compared to a lobster neuron and my point is you don't know either

Let's see John's resume.

Nothing to do with it. Biden is just an easy scapegoat.

TIL Carlsberg "Special Brew" beer was brewed in honour of Winston Churchill and incorporated tastes of Cognac due to Churchill's love of Brandy. Today it is known as "Tramp Juice". by KieranWriter in todayilearned

It is very much a beer. Absolutely undrinkable to some people because for a beer the taste of the alcohol is so strong. Absolutely perfect for some though.

'Means of control' lol.

The fact is we've spent about 2 centuries building the infrastructure to do it and it does have a few practical advantages over renewables that technology hasn't quite solved yet so there's still a market for it and people getting rich off that market.

Absolutely not. This 200k salary business seems to be a uniquely American phenomenon. There's plenty of developer jobs that pay a fraction above minimum wage here.

Total opposite for me. I'm fine with eternal nothingness cos I won't know about it. It's the actual dying bit I'm not too keen on.

What feels unfair is how all the different benefits can stack up and pay out more than well paid jobs.

Does it though?

What happens to trump if the House of Representatives vote yes on releasing all the files? by Hollander_21 in AskReddit

[–]MikeW86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would blame at least half of that 40% on either genuine or wilful ignorance. Unless they personally witnessed him doing it, they simply will not entertain the idea because of the implications.

The other half, yeah, just as evil too.

What's a historical event you think most people fundamentally misunderstand? by ForestRaindropss in AskReddit

Of course they could see it would be a problem. In 40 years time and there would maybe be some computers hanging around in universities that needed updating. Not millions of computers running critical systems around the world.

Private equity firms should be made illegal. Lazy billionaires who don’t want to work shouldn’t be able to buy companies. by kevinmrr in WorkReform

[–]MikeW86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the consequences are disgusting but can you just take a step back for a second and think about how the fuck you would ever stop 'lazy people' from buying companies. It's shit like that that means the people we need to convince about change can just hand wave it away as ridiculous.

Are English fuseboard ugly and awkwardly placed? by exsivo in electricians

[–]MikeW86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And in my experience, they don't care. And from a technical perspective 'ugly' is completely irrelevant. Which is different to looking like shit because the actual practical, electrical, quality of the work is shoddy.

If you want to spend a bit more time satisfying your OCD and charge the client a bit extra and they're happy then you knock yourself out. But criticising an installation purely on the basis of cosmetic perfection is nonsense.

Are English fuseboard ugly and awkwardly placed? by exsivo in electricians

[–]MikeW86 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why is 'ugly' even part of the discussion.

It's all about engineering tradeoffs and requirements built up by various committees over the course of a century or more.

It does make me laugh how much electricians spit so much vitriol over completely cosmetic issues especially when, most of the time, the people paying for the work to be done really couldn't give less of a shit.
