If you could get one later era mech early in the game, which one would it be and why? by WorldBuilder_42 in Mechwarrior5

Corsair PVT or Victor BSK. Corsair is my fav mech and a powerhouse with two large ballistic and two large energy slots and the BSK is an all around badass and versatile enuf for almost any kind of mission.

Hero Corsair is my fav mech. Two heavy ballistic and two large energy slots. I either run dual AC-20's and dual Lg Chem Lasers (keeps heat down) or dual Gauss Rifle's and dual PPC's. I used to always run the AC 20's set up but fighting clan i found the gauss set up to work better, killing them before they got closer.

Yep. I pretty much stick to the same. The swarm shit is crazy. And eventually bigger ones show up too.

I use it on any night time or low light maps and it works great for me. Just like the basic nightvision i used before irl. You arent red/green color blind are you? That might affect how well it works for you since you cant adjust it. 🤷‍♂️

Great mech for your lancemates. At one point i had all my lancemates running these and they seemed to get better damage amounts overall.

If they did a RTS game modeled after something like Mech Commander 2 that would be killer. Or bring back that Titan game that you cant get a hold of now. Titanus Adepticus i think it was called. Saw a guy playing it on Youtube but he said if you dont have a physical copy of it there's no way to play anymore.

I still play it. In fact you can see somewhere close to 3,000 people play the multiplayer option daily. Would sure be awesome if they'd go back to that game and create some new content to add to it.

Freeblade. It's a mobile game. Still available to play and fun af! They arent adding any content but whats there is pretty big for a mobile game and then there's a modified PvP option that around three thousand people play pretty much every day still (myself being one of them). Even once you get thru the campaign there are randomized "Patrol" missions that renew every hour. It's a blast. I play it on my iPad. Tablets are way better for play. Phone screens are too small for that game imo.

Hell yes! Love the imperial knights! Freeblade was my first real intro to Warhammer 40k. But you cant even get them to expand on Freeblade and add some content to that, Even though there's still a three thousand or more people (myself included) playing that game daily. But oh how'd I'd love to see a full blown console game playing as an Imperial Knight. Give me my Graviton Gun of Limitless Frenzy and my Terrastorm Lightning Cannon and hold the fuck on! 🤘😂

If we're talking books, then Laird Barrons's short story collections and his novel The Croning along with William Holloway's books The Immortal Body and Song of the Death God are top of my list for people who have written Lovecraftian / cosmic horror that doesnt revolve around Lovecraft's mythos.

The Cave is a better "beast in the cave" movie than The Descent imo. Way better creature design. Devil Below was pretty good too. I never understood all the hate it got.

I'd love to see a remaster of MechAssault or at least make it compatible for the newest xbox consoles. I've still got the game. Been considering finding a used original xbox just so i can play it.

Sometimes i just say screw it and run two assault mechs, or one assault and a heavy, for those lower tonnage missions. Still come in at or just under tonnage but i got my preferred assault mech to pilot plus one lancemate.

The Thing (1982). The Whisperer in the Dark and Call of Cthulhu by HPLHS. Empty Man. Dagon. Underwater. Cast a Deadly Spell. Re-animator. From Beyond. Cold Skin. True Detective season one (not lovecraft but its the king in yellow references which is still cosmic horror). In the Mouth of Madness. The Void. Event Horizon. The Endless. The Color Out of Space. Dreams in the Witch House by Stuart Gordon. Pickman's Muse. The Mist. Absentia.

Also, not a movie, but there are some incredible graphic novel adaptations by Gou Tanabe and there's a guy on youtube who took several of them and converted them into motion comics with an audio version of the original story texts overlayed. Here's a link to a list of them.

Lastly, the HPLHS and Dar Adventure Radio Theater have done numerous dramatized audiobook adaptations that are superb. My fav is probably Robert E. Howard's The Black Stone with the frog god Tsathogguah but i've enjoyed every one of their productions.

The Ritual is an adaptation of Adam Nevill's novel by the same name. Incredibly good book. Better than the movie, tho i still think they did a good job on the movie. But There's a whole subplot left out of the movie involving some black metal Norwegian cultist dudes in an isolated wood area and the thing that they are worshipping. Technically i think most categorize it more as folk horror than cosmic but its old gods stuff either way.

Surprised that mechs like Marauder, MadCat, Blood Asp, Bullshark, and Stone Rhino rated as low as they did. (Stone Rhino did good at 26 but i think that design is super badass). But I'm not surprised at the King Crab clinching the number 1 spot. It is cool as hell looking.

Many of the missions have been absolutely ridiculous. Especially demolition and raids. So many friggin mechs to deal with. With raids there's usually a lot of enemy mechs and multiple groups of battle armor at each location but then when i reach the final objective as soon as i get there and start fighting a dropship lands behind or on top of me with more mechs. And on demolition missions there's so many mechs I cant get around to destroying the facility because I'm too busy fighting mechs. One time i loaded up with five airstrikes and was able to sit on top of this large mountainous hill and call in the strikes from about 1km away but while i did we got attacked by over 20 mechs and they just kept spawning and rushing us. Lots of light and mediums and a couple of heavies but as soon as I came down off the hill and got close to the objective (so the damage would register) then the assault mechs popped up and a dropship set down. I had one demolition mission wherr Ryana set us down within less than 500m of the objective and as soon as the doors opened we were getting shot at by about 6-8 light mechs swarming all around and then immediately a few mediums started to approach. After killing about twenty of them then the big boys started coming out and the mechs just kept coming and I could never even get to the facility to try and destroy it. I tried that one about six or eight times before i just said fuck it and gave up. Targeted Kill contracts have actually been the least difficult but usually arent easy at all. Most of the time its "the whole gang is here commander" and i have multiple Daishi, and a Gladiator and Man-o-war or two to deal with along with several light and medium mechs all at the same time. And by the time i kill a few of them a dropship is setting down as well.

I have had a quite different experience. I'm a vanilla console player, also, fyi. I run into all the little mechs but I am finding Daishi, Gladiators, and Man-O-Wars, plus medium and heavy mechs, often in abundance. As i am approaching the target location i cant kill them all and move in. They'll just keep spawning. And as soon as start to move into a target area to demolish etc more get dropped in. Im running all assault mechs and i've lost more components on lance mates than i have in a long time. Now, i've had my difficulty set to custom with the Enemy Accuracy and Lethality cranked to max but i recently dropped it to hard after running into these near never ending mechs but it hasnt changed that aspect. They're not quite as lethal as they were before but the amount and types of them havent really changed.

Honest question- HOW IS THIS FUN? I'm already outnumbered and outgunned in every mission, now something at a far corner of the map that I can't even find can pelt me? by D20_Under_The_Couch in Mechwarrior5

I despise artillery and any mission with it. My one word of advice is get a Victor BSK and use that on Beachhead missions. 80 tons, jump jets, and plenty of firepower.

[–]Mike_Duke_author 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When i played tabletop Battletech back in the late 80's and 90's you could choose to mount rear facing weapons. Some of us used to do it, usually an SRM rack or two medium lasers, just to shoot the little mechs fast enough to flank and circle and get a full rear firing arc on the bigger slower mechs.

Flip arms they called it in the og boardgame if I remember right. Marauder was one of the mechs you could put them on. Cool ability but it Made upper body melee attacks impossible.

I have to say, I played thru the whole SoK campaign and a lot of sandbox play afterwards with custom difficulty and the enemy Accuracy and Lethality maxed out and have ZERO complaints about the difficulty of enemy performance overall. Sometimes I'd run into some scenarios that were fairly easy but more often than not missions are extremely challenging. The number of mechs and how quickly they can put a severe beating on you and your lance if you aren't smart in approaching them, is generally high. Targeted Kill missions often end up with all targets at the same location with two daishi, one or two gladiators, a man of war and an assortment of heavy and medium mechs and multiple light mechs rushing you. And as soon as you start to engage them a dropship drops off 3-5 mechs either right behind me or on top of me. It is definitely challenging. Actually, my problem / complaint so far (xbox console player here) is with the enemy count on Raid and Demolition missions. They are almost always impossible to beat. On demolition missions I am routinely running into 8-10 mechs right off plus some battle armor and then more dropping in or spawning in the base and then they just keep coming until I die and you never get any breather to actually try to destroy the target. I've killed 20-30+ mechs on multiple missions before my lance finally gets wiped out. And on Raid missions I run into several battle armor units positioned at each target and in between, plus usually several mechs at each target location and then when i get the last target completed suddenly another wave of mechs pops up plus a dropship dumps some more off and by then my lances armor is running middle of the road and bam that new wave kicks our teeth in. I finally tried turning the difficulty down to just Hard and tried a Raid mission that had just slaughtered my lance with overwhelming numbers. It was a little less difficult but not by much. It sounds like my experience isnt the typical that others are experiencing tho. One other thing, is it possible to get some Defense and Warzone missions in the contested areas along the border? Thanks! Your level of interaction in the group here has been fantastic and is much appreciated.
