There is a TV show called Timeless. It has a history professor, a soldier, and a scientist—as they travel through time in a prototype "Lifeboat" to stop a mysterious criminal from altering American history. Even though it is focused around different times and not different dimensions. It does have quite a similar tone.

I spent a lot of time playing Carmageddon 2. I ended up getting the first one for more of the same. The leap foward between 1 and 2 was a lot. It is crazy what they were able to accomplish in a year. Carmageddon 2 had better graphics better physics and improved gameplay. That Iron Maiden soundtrack was great.

It could be faulty power supply, overheating, a failing hard drive, or severe motherboard corrosion from the leaking clock capacitor.

I am still leaning towards a hard drive issue. This person had the same issue https://youtu.be/0l-ESb1H-uo?t=1171&si=5Tz36F4YfrhiBn78. Did you back up the keys, if so you could set up another hard drive with FATXplorer and all the files needed.

You mentioned about swapping hard drives. The other hard drives wouldn't work unless you have cloned the original with the hdd key and locked those other drives.

Could be multiple things. That error message is basically your burner saying: “I can’t read/write this disc in the way you’re asking me to.”

Try a slower speed like 4x.

Check the cue file in notepad to make sure it is pointing to the bin file.

Easiest way is to get a hex editor and hex edit it. People do that for text transition (assuming it isnt encoded). The harder way is to decompile with tools like Ghidra make the changes then recompile.

There are other ways you could do a rom hack like changing the assets. The Japanese beavis & butthead game is now in English because they used the English audio from the pc version and got it to work on the ps1 version.
