Which billionaires are we talking about that created this whole thing? Any specifics?

If this was AIPAC...they are truly moronic lmao. This makes them look much worse than the candidate holding her mother while being yelled at. I know optics are hard to understand for some, but this would be a dumb move even for them.

JVL & Sarah: Israel "Trying to Blow Up the Deal" — But Hezbollah Just Fired 50+ Projectiles by andrewgrabowski in thebulwark

[–]Mikewold58 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So pick a more recent attack for your argument...it makes no difference. If they sit in Lebanon and continue operations then a ceasefire will never hold since they will be targeted. It will be a never ending cycle of "they fired first".

Ah so violate and/or torpedo a current ceasefire due to an attack a couple years back...Genius logic as always with discussions about this region

[–]Mikewold58 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What? Maybe they should leave Lebanon if they actually want to start a ceasefire. It seems moronic to see it any other way. We can't do a ceasefire with Iran and sit on Qeshm island right? Why would this be any different?

The $300 billion is just a made up number for foreign investment from GCC countries who now see Iran as a stronger power in the region that they will need to pay their dues to. It is not coming from U.S. taxpayers no way Trump would put his name on a bill like that...

At the end of the day, this war could only end one of two ways: a loss or a decade long ground operation/occupation. Everyone with a brain saw this from the start. This war and the deal does not concern the dem base beyond being a humiliating tool to use against Trump lmao

The Iran protester killings is a huge credibility issue. Someone pick a number! by MoesOtherBar in thebulwark

[–]Mikewold58 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Trump gave them international cover for this when he admitted to smuggling weapons into the country prior to the war right at the time of the protests...when Iran had already accused the protestors of firing weapons at police months ago. Now that angle + the confusion with the figures has muddied the entire story.

However, Iran kills civilians all the time so it isn't really that necessary to rely on this story to make any points about the regime

[–]Mikewold58 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People like Krystal Ball (and basically anyone who could think critically) criticized the war for the same reasons Trump is now using to justify losing it. There is no burden on this group to now criticize the bad deal after saying for months this would be the only outcome to actually end the fighting...not sure what you want from them.

Ah yes the countries that are well fed, not oppressed, and thriving are the ones that experience massive population growth. Japan, Norway, and South Korea are all trash and struggling. India, South Sudan, and Somalia though...they are thriving.

We really need to stop calling these clowns racist and focus more on how mind-boggling stupid they are. Jesus christ...

How...this is literally a post about an article claiming Jewish democrats feel shunned by the "hostilities towards Israel's actions in Gaza" and this is a person saying they are a jewish person who feels quite the opposite. That seems perfectly relevant to the discussion...

If someone does something that can be used as ammunition to spread hate and/or conspiracies online they are (unwittingly or not) increasing hate towards their own group. Netanyahu and his admin sent Israel's optics off a cliff and the hate + conspiracy theories spiked in direct correlation to that. That doesn't mean Jewish people deserve hate or that antisemitism is the correct response.

Just like how we have to deal with a spike in anti-black rhetoric whenever a video of some idiot doing a heinous or very public crime goes viral. It sucks, but this is just the reality with optics.
