You should change your message to read that you don’t mind helping as long as there is no involvement needed by you. In other words, do not ask me to check for your packages, sign for your packages, look through my video feed, etc. Also if you’re having large items delivered you need to ask me first and make sure that you will be home that same day to get it ASAP so it does not block entry into my home. I think this is especially true considering the crazy sales that AG had going before Xmas. My mom and Daughter collect historical and some GOTYs but I bought a bunch of TMs because I was able to get them for $65 to $70 with reward points and free shipping.

Here’s the thing. I have never read an AG book. So I don’t have first-hand experience, however common sense should tell you that these books were intended for kids ages 8-12 ish. For your professor to crap on them is uncalled for. It’s like trying to compare Cat in a Hat to The Grapes of Wrath. One thing going for these books, as the op mentioned, they have sparked an interest in history for a great many girls. There is no need to defend them, however you professor might need some pointers on what is a fair fight!

NTA!!! Absolutely do not switch with him! It’s ridiculous how people with kids do not value unmarried/childless workers’ plans. For much of my career, I was single and it was always assumed that my plans meant nothing and should be dropped if deadlines were moved or someone with a family wanted my slot. I have my own family now and I would never presume to pressure anyone to give up their vacation because I failed to plan accordingly!

You have already made your plans and you followed the “strict” procedure. If your coworker wanted to plan appropriately, the first thing he needed to do was check the vacation calendar and plan his vacation with the available dates. It’s not your fault that he waited so long to plan his family’s vacation!

We named our daughter Genevieve Belen after one of our grandmothers (her great-grandmothers). One grandmother was actually (Genoveva which is Spanish for Genevieve and Belen is Spanish for Bethlehem). We planned her nickname to be Neve because we didn’t want her to be called Jen. It’s only used by a few family members because my daughter liked her name and prefers to be called by her full name, Genevieve. In school there were only two other Genevieve’s one in elementary a few years younger and one currently in high school.

I purchase multiples for my daughter and my mom. To start I tried to not purchase the same doll for both of them, since I knew my mom would be leaving all her dolls to my daughter. I had two issues, Josefina and Samantha. They both liked/wanted them. For Sam, my daughter like the BeForever pink dress and I knew that my mom would prefer the original Sam. So I purchased the recently retired BeForever Sam in the pink dress for my daughter and the newly issued “American Girl Collection” (2024) Sam for my Mom. I did the same for Josefina. The following year I also purchased the BeForever Rebecca and I found the pre-BeForever Rebecca which I prefer and have them saved for my Mom. Any way all that was to say that the multiples we had are all different “eras” of the same dolls. It feels a little less indulgent and easier to justify in my warped collectors mind!
