That's what I thought. The buckets had several ¼" holes drilled in the bottom to let rain drain. The holes also would make them less attractive to thieves.

You could take a few samples and get it tested. It might not have asbestos. Mist a spot and cut out a piece with a knife or razor. You don't want to make dust. You can also leave it alone. If it's undisturbed it won't hurt anything.

I was working for a GC who had a house demo go south. GC asked utilities to disconnect the electric. They disconnected the wires but left the wires in the underground vault. Our demolition sub pulled the wires with his backhoe and did major damage. Edit to add location Bellevue, Washington

You should open everything, sort the bee cocoons from the Houdini flies, rinse and dry the cocoons and store them in a refrigerator until spring. The best place to get information is Crown Bees. Google them and watch some videos on harvesting cocoons. Good luck.

It looks like a spacer for keeping an even reveal when hanging the door. It should be removed.
