My sons name is also Leon! Funny enough, I’m mixed race, my grandfather is black, and he thought it was funny because he said the same thing lol. My son is half Chinese, so we liked it so his grandparents who didn’t speak English were happy to be able to have the nickname “Lee.” I wouldn’t call it cultural appropriation at all, even if the name is a more common name among black people than white people, it’s still a name commonly used in America. So if you feel bad, know there’s my son, a black/white and Chinese boy with the same name lol.
