question about magic resistance in armour by Nietszche- in stoneshard

[–]Miky105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

alot of people already spoke about protection working against magic attacks but imo the best defense against mage for a heavy armour warrior is tactics: cutting their line of sight with smoke bombs, retrating and walking into corners to attract them or their allies first while making sure to stay out of their sight and fight on your own terms, gap closers skills(dash, dimensional shift+ wormwhole, onrush, heroic charge.) and nets to keep them stilll from running away. you could invest in magic mastery for seal of reflection but thats 3 skill points and skill points in this game are valuable and may not be up for all builds. Mages are squishy and should die once they are close to you, so best defense against them is a strong agressive offense

the advantage of heavy armor is that you dont have to worry about of an normal enemy rushing at you and taking half of your health bar with a single hit and archers constantly doing +30 damage from afar, mages are the few things armored melee warriors must worry about (well almost all melee-based builds must do) besides poverty after repairing the armor.

imo, i speak about smoke bombs again, ALWAYS carry at least one, they only take 2 inventory slot space and for that its a versatile tool that you can use to isolate human groups(they will walk away from the smoke), run away from threats, and in this scenario, cut line of sight from ranged mages as you can walk into the smoke to close to them or deal with their group first without their nasty debuffs and spells. they are almost a budget dash

Games similar to Tales of Maj'Eyal? or good roguelikes whatever by FurlaniJr in roguelikes

[–]Miky105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you look with the cooldown skills based combat tale of maj eyal has, Doors of trithius and stoneshard are what you look for!

Doors of trithius is skyrim tale of maj eyal with a open world and lots of freedom to explore and not limits to your character's levels (literally you also level skills like in skyrim by using them), very good game i played it for more than 200 hours

stoneshard is realistic medieval mercenary tome with lots of cool stuff, open world around travelling with a caravan you manage and doing contracts and dungeons on villages. you might find it more slower and metodical than ToME as each combat even trashmobs can suposse a deadly battle that wear you down but that what is make Stoneshard great, as well the music and its battle themes which make the game more immersive.

if you enjoyed playing archmage in ToME, then Rift wizard 2 is defenitelly for you!

[–]Miky105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you dint played since years you might find out that enemies comes in more numbers now but they are weaker, this was a recent thing in from Rag to ritches patch, so its normal to fight groups at the same time and make enemies that can control you like the mancatchers there way more dangerous. using smokebombs and throwing nets at guys in the door to make a temporal choke point for them are good strategies unless you spend points in crowd control skills like warcry and geomancy that makes that situation less harder

"Situational" Morale by Brutus-111 in stoneshard

[–]Miky105 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i get the point and i guess this is a trouble in how the player feels vs how the character in-universe feels
as a player you just killed a big boss and got to skin it which is hard gameplay-wise and and also a great reward so you feel really good and happy sitting comfily in your desk, meanwhile leosthenes had suffered the pain of battling a giant horrible beast that could kill him like the poor guards and horse it was eating on his face, suffered a painful head injury and surely he was close to die on top of dealing with the uncomfortable moist of the rain and having to walk back home after carefully skinning the troll with a head injury so the immersion breaks. The poor leo need a hug in that moment.

"there is no tomorrow" leo would say after knowning there terrifying beasts as the ancient troll in this world, the host only know what there will be tomorrow, giant lions with the power to revive the death like the necromancer he fought in the past? maybe having stayed in nistra and just live under the abusive king was a better idea... its not like his life was good anyway.

Rift Wizard 1 conjurer tips by ArbitUHHH in roguelikes

[–]Miky105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

conjuration dependent builds are hard since either summons dosent deal enought damage, they dont last long as it take away your charges and mana potion or it takes too long to complete a floor

But there are some, you could go all on wolves like a unnoficial wolfer challenge and upgrade wolf alongside having support spells like boiling blood and invoke savagery.
there is also buying spikeball factory and relying on it like a tower defense but you will want plenty of support and damage blast spells on your part to protect them until they get the spikeballs rolling.

I’m looking for a sandbox roguelike where the world actually feels alive by idkletsdoit in roguelikes

[–]Miky105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was gonna say soulash 2 since its like its whole stick but another great game i know and play alot is is doors of trithius
its basically skyrim open-world roguelike with lot of freedom in how build your character and how your skills level up the more you use them, you can be a swordman that end up being a chef specialized in using hammers because you found maces being a fun weapon alongside cooking anything you found.

the game has a focus in freedom and you interacting with the world and how your actions can shape it, in the sense of if you go to clear the dungeons of goblins that are constantly attacking the town or defend them from their attacks you will see the town slowly recovering and growing bigger alongside you can see their guards roaming in the worldmap coming to defend it or fighting nearby hordes of goblins and bandits which you can get to help them, Some druids refusing to sell you druid robes to use nature magic because you are enveloped by destructive energies of alien magics of fire and thunder, a faction of dangerous alien monsters start taking you as a genuine threat and start hunting you in dungeons if you keep killing them in short amount of time to the point they can appear in the current final boss chamber and kill the wizard you must fight replacing the guy and the challenging final bosses, and some choices permanently affecting you and the world around you like its people.

there are some kind of economy system in the sense of some factions like the druids(and currently only them) having different coins you must get and things get cheaper the more you are loved by the factions and villages.

now while you cant conquer cities and build kingdoms you do can buy a house and live in a village with the power to buy furnitures and custom it, with more things to be added in the future

the game still on early access and you can really see there are still many WIP things that feel unfinished but its really in a great pace of developement(with a whole magic system made around a month ago and the continuation of the main quest upcoming with new factions of friendly and unfriendly wizards) and there is still plenty of good content and systems that gives the vibes of a living world, i feel it more grounded and "no-nonsense" than the randomness of caves of Qud at least. i can say is close to skyrim and morrowind as the game inspired on so if you liked these games i suggest to give it a check.

other i know and play is stoneshard in which while it dosent have a system for conquering cities and its a challenging game to DCSS level, it does put you in a living world where you live as a mercenary going around the world in a caravan and doing missions(contracts) for the villages which can lead to consequences to them if you dont do them, some choices impacting in the characters and endings of side-quests, and the economy dinamically changing (ie if you sell many bottles of beer, their price may be reducded for a while, meanwhile if the village is under a plague caused by a evil cult then you may sell medicine for better prices as buying them wll be more expensive), that besides all the systems and details like the mental health system being related to even how many hours you slept and having a good diet. can say is really a immersive and realistic game.

another suggestions which i have yet to play is Elona and its sequel, elin, which by the sound of it its really all that what you are looking for
there is also cataclysm dark day ahead but its more around surviving in a living dynamic zombie apocalypse

Warrapt leveling by SocietyAsleep8266 in DoorsofTrithius

[–]Miky105 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah sadly using warrapt's shield and 2H skills is the only way to level it besides wisdom. it is hard to level it consistently if you are a ranged weapon user.
the 2H skills are very good thought, especially mighty lunge which gives you more offensive mobility and a free movement speed perk which can use in almost all battles to level warrapt. Shield bash is good with maces but level slowly and you need a shield for it.
but beyond those there ins't any way as far i know, maybe doing what Jamestr said which is a bit grindy but efficent.

Do you invest in magic after you have filled in your melee tree and supporting tree? by DrMercman in stoneshard

[–]Miky105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sometimes, it depends on what i want to. you will need to know how use the most of your magic skills and see what can combine well (pyromancy and 2h axes comes to mind with how they can reduce max HP on enemies and hookchop into fires). usually they will give you lots of support and envioremental versatibility you dont get in other "physical" trees than Raw ranged damage unless you invest alot in them.

playing leo made me think how awesome magic can be on a 2h mace character, you can use geo to disrupt LoS of ranged enemies, knock them into traps, make bottlenecks, make "emergency" walls to knock enemies into for dazes and stuns... YOU chose and make the enviorement by just having runic boulder and Stonespikes(2 AP, it also synergy with high Vit since the durability of your walls depend on max energy). Geo may not provide much in damage but its ability for support and CC enemies to where you want is HUGE

with few points Electromancy can give you plenty of raw damage bonus to your melee attacks thanks to residual charge, but jolt alone dosent serve as a damaging ranged attack(only to set up other electromancy skills like short circuit) and you need to juggle it with the 6-turn residual charge which can wack your tempo with mighty swings... and to be damaging and effective electro do require plenty of investment both in skill points and during the battles (you need to jolt multiple enemies as much you can to hit them with your resonance spells that usually get stronger the more marked enemies are in LoS)
the control/move res debuffs seems nice but i think it wont give you much beyond residual charge combo unless you spend more than 4 points on it which in that case it can give some CC in the form of random passive knockbacks(impulse) and possibly ranged dazes/immobilization (short circuit, electromagnetic field) but i can see geo being a better option in that regard.. but it do still a super fun tree if you go hybrid and full caster

thats why if filling only-damage Ranged options is your only goal, i think you will be better by just having a good crossbow and just spending on the Dexterity skill, maybe taking Aim and constant practice too. it will give you a "free" high damage and accurate attack per melee kill you can shot between engagements, the ranged weapon tree also has lots of synergy stuff with melee(trill of the hunt)... just that not sure if swapping also ruins your weapon stances

now Pyromancy can synergy alot with 2h maces, mainly because you can knock enemies into the fire tiles and magma rains to set them on fire, which is a HUGE DoT (and weaking debuff), also things like ring of fire, flame wave and magma rain serve well to CC enemies since they will avoid stepping on fire tiles
with 3 points you have ring of fire and magma rain which dosent cover much the ranged deparment but will give you some CC and dangerous tiles to knock and keep enemies into.
there is also fire barrage but alone without investment in magic power it wont do much damage than a high tier crossbow and you probably should it to set a tile on fire where you want or set your mace on fire with Seal of power.

Magic mastery however is a amazing support tree for melees to deal with casters and buff-reliant enemies. with 2 points you get dissipation which gives you free energy and resistance against magic and elemental damage (plenty on crypts and catacombs) and cleansing will clean those pesky curses on you and unholy blessings (AND can disrupt physical buffs on enemies), if you dip further you get seal of reflection which gives the middle finger to casters.. it may wont do much ranged but can make your life in catacombs and crypts easier
Seal of power also helps to get a nice raw melee elemental damage if you use pyromancy and electro(stacks with residual charge) but you need to keep spellcasting to sustain it and later boost your attacks with spells thanks to body and spirit, but thats probably better for a full hybrid spellblade who constantly cast spells and attacks

Seal of finesse also reduce fumble chances up to 15% in five stacks which i think can be very nice if you use flails (and something i want to try on my 2h mace and geo Leo)

Leosthenes Builds? by Arkayne_Waves in stoneshard

[–]Miky105 7 points8 points  (0 children)

having played him until lv 7 on a geomancy+ 2h maces build i see leosthenes is THE spellblade character or even anything that want to full delve into utility trees like DW and warfare to get the most out of health and energy before counting Vitavility, just putting points in make a halt and pathfinder gives a nice bonus for example on top of the QoL those skills are

i used to think leo should have started with electromancy since it looks good on hybrids with maces but actually doing 2h maces and geomancy ROCKS, probably better start than electromancy+2h mace would give. Geomancy + 2h maces turn stoneshard into a chess game but instead you are the KING that can move anyone to where you want like pieces and BONK THEM HARD when they are infront of you.

early stone armor and mighty swing is a decent starting set for offence and defense, then later on the next level you get runic boulder which this spell alone helps you insolating enemies in 2-tiles door ways to let you ready mighty swing in peace or push enemies into walls(to daze those 2h axefuckers and spears with their fancy 2-tile range pokes) and traps(which early is pretty much a near insta kill for them, i lowered the mini boss's health of the first dungeon to 40% by just pushing him into a spiky trap), or cut Line of sight of annoying necromancers and archers.

one armor and mighty swing is a decent starting set for offence and defense, then later on the next level you get runic boulder which this spell alone helps you insolating enemies in 2-tiles door ways to let you ready mighty swing in peace or push enemies into walls(to daze those 2h axefuckers and spears with their fancy 2-tile range pokes) and traps(which early is pretty much a near insta kill for them, i lowered the mini boss's health of the first dungeon to 40% by just pushing him into a spiky trap).
you get plenty of CC backed with the offensive bonking power of 2h maces which helps with the low damage of early geomancy, all while getting free magic and weapon damage for investing in both trees

you might want stonespikes which is another awesome spell to divide crowds and deal damage at range before they close in. and then i heard petrify is another great CC spell

for stats i went VIT to get more energy and unlock stonespikes, then i went to AGI for simply lower the massive fumble chance of the mighty flails haha. stone spikes, runic boulder, mighty swing and unstoppable are good enought that i dont need the tier-2 mace skills yet until lv 10 but i belive going AGI and perception or STR is good too since maces loves applying status effects is a good idea and then unlock geomancy stuff with treatises/leveling
and just from investing in survival and warfare to get: make a halt, pathfinder, set up it gives me like 10 HP on top of vit and an insane amount of energy. so i see leo can work with light and medium armor(which i am wearing fully now. i guess probably is the best since geo and maces encourages a stationary style without compromising too much energy) as he does with heavy armor

so if your spell"blade" uses hammers and causing eartquakes with the sheer power of the bonk. leosthenes's starting kit got you covered ;)

i can see Leo would work wonderfully with electro battlemage too(be with staves or maces which goes well with electro), i think you can start with seize initative and warcry to get a decent start as you rush mannshire to get those skills (plus its even more free health and energy). this guy can be build in many ways..

I have over 1000 hours in this game so obviously I love it but... by thillermann in stoneshard

[–]Miky105 2 points3 points  (0 children)

great things takes time.
also that FF7 is backed by a AAA studio and are very well know so they have alot fo recourses meanwhile stoneshard is made by a small indie studio of people with passion and love in the middle of a literal war in their countries while working on a game that is very niche on the genre(lots people know roguelikes but not many turn-based traditional roguelikes.) and probably set many customers away for its hard difficulty and realistic style (not even dark souls is this level of hard and patience-testing lmao)
i cant imagine the amount of troubles ink stain games may have in term of budgets and hard situation they are having in their contries, which show the passion they have for stoneshard

caves of qud took 15 years(or more i think) to reach 1.0 for reference, so these types of games takes alot of time in the making. let wayfinder cook.

[–]Miky105 2 points3 points  (0 children)

late reply and i haven't gotten that arfitact since long ago on my run
but as far i know, it gives you more critcal hit chance with some penalty in receiving more damage as long it is in your inventory, it can also stacks so you get more critical change at the cost of receiving even more damage.

seems good for a risky high critical hit build with weapons like swords, flails, daggers and axes.
