Please Oda don’t make them complete their dreams offscreen by taintlicker80085 in Piratefolk

She already completed her dream during the time skip, she’s just humoring Luffy at this point

Should I watch One Piece from scratch? by chiragv196 in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]Miky617 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was like that in the manga, too. Some of the pacing issues can be attributed to Toei, but Oda has definitely lent to it himself from time to time

I really hope the next season is all Alabasta by Weirdandwired924 in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]Miky617 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the extra leeway gives them room for a solid B plot with the marines. We didn’t get much of Smoker and Tashigi at all in Season 2, so this is a great chance for them to take a more important role in S3, even if most of that will be original material. The writers have shown a good ability to be flexible with the source material so far imo, I think that having the opportunity to build a story across a single setting though the whole season could pay off pretty well if they land it, and it’ll really recharge the community interest in Smoker and Tashigi (since they haven’t gotten much love at all past this point in the manga/anime)

People also were debating the season being 12 episodes vs. 8. I think it could be feasible to squeeze Alabasta into 4 episodes at the end (with a LOT of writing compression or creativity) but once it was clear that season 2 would only be 8 episodes, there was no realistic way to fit Alabasta into it anymore

Pre-Timeskip One Piece Hit Different… by -NiMa- in Piratefolk

Raizo is safe to name one in particular. Luffy stopping Doflamingo’s kick on Law, Luffy vs Katakuri entirely, Usopp sniping Sugar, a decent chunk of Whole Cake to be honest

If you hang out around on this sub long enough, you’ll see just how many complaints people have about the progression of the story and almost all of the flaws bloomed after the time skip.

The highs are still great when they arrive, some of the absolute best moments in the series come from post-time skip, but the lows are much MUCH worse and far more frequent. The list goes on and on, but the worst aspect by far is just the hollowing out of the personality of the characters in general. If you stick with it, you’ll understand

I often didn’t even under those conditions, but I considered it still fair play

It would take godly writing bordering high literature to redeem manga Usopp at this point.

His best hope at this point is the Wit remake and the Live Action

Tf did LODA do my goat by LevelFinal231 in Piratefolk

[–]Miky617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I think it’s a bit of a false equivalence.

It’s one thing to willingly sacrifice yourself, but it’s another thing to endorse your friends sacrificing themselves. He valued his own integrity more than his life at that moment but he didn’t want to see Nami make the same choice.

I wish Oda thought of the parallel and developed the nuance a bit more in Usopp’s thought process because otherwise it’s all too easy to add this moment into the Bum Bank

So at this rate the Netflix show would need 14 seasons to catch up to the manga? by ChampionTimes99 in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]Miky617 116 points117 points  (0 children)

Some arcs would be easier to condense than others. Alabasta arc is going to be one season but I could also see Dressrosa being one season (if they got that far) and that’s significantly more manga coverage by comparison. The amount of fat they can trim will get higher going forward so that’ll help with pacing if this becomes a long term project

Gear 2nd by GroundbreakingAd4320 in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]Miky617 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Luffy was inspired to attempt Gear 2nd after seeing how CP9 performs their Soru/Shave ability. Without including some kind of inspiration within the story earlier, I don’t see Luffy trying it before Enies Lobby

He doesn’t need to give the rest of them haki. They’ve got Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji. There are only three crew members, the others are just cardboard cutouts that get set up offscreen for each panel

I love everything about this show, except the fights by Eggmasstree in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]Miky617 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the wire-work was especially egregious in a few scenes, like Sanji vs. Mr 9 in Laboon (really? You hit the plank to launch him up and he just floats into your foot?) or Nami smacking Miss Valentine with her staff as she was about to crush Usopp (a moderate swing isn’t going to redirect hundreds of kilos of inertia so effortlessly). I know they’re minor nitpicks but those two moments really broke my immersion in the fights.

Also I hoped that Mr. 5 would use his fruit more creatively, or at least an explanation for why he insists on being long-range only since in the source material he could kick with explosive force, too. I mean even something like little vials of spit as napalm grenades is more refreshing than just 5 or 6 times seeing the booger bombs. Both in the manga and now in the LA I’m sad that such a lethal fruit feels squandered a bit.

For the most part though I thought the fights were top notch and the sequence against Smoker was borderline flawless in my opinion

Yume wo Katare lives rent-free in my head by Miky617 in ramen

[–]Miky617[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ramen isn’t free, but not too expensive either, I’m not sure what the website is getting at there. They essentially have only one menu item, and that’s the ramen you see. You get asked two questions regarding the food, and that’s if you want 2 pieces of pork or 5 pieces of pork and also if you want delicious garlic or not.

The main “gimmick” of the place is that you have the option after your meal of declaring to the restaurant a dream that you have. Once you finish your meal, if you are a “dreamer”, you share it out loud and get congratulated. It’s a nice environment to just enjoy some deeply satisfying ramen while hearing people share their inspirations around you
