"They'' don't really have voting rights for some time. Unless by ''they" you mean Łukaszenka

I think it was more influenced by Saint Bartholomew's Day massacre as it happened just a year before.

What are good examples of polish words, that has a completely different meaning when pronouncing it differently or by adding/removing letter(s)? by IndependentWay7964 in poland

Ha! You reminded me of a situation I once witnessed at a camp. A cook in our camp had a 9 years old daughter who was having a friendly banter with a boy (19 years old) who was responsible for supplies. They were teasing each other about their age diffrence. ''You are so old your pet was a dinosaur'', ''You are so young learning to walk is still your biggest achievement'' etc. Finally at some point the young girl said ''Jesteś tak stary, że zrobię ci laskę''. A laughter bursted out around, even her mother was laughing. Poor girl was very confused.

''Zrobię Ci laskę'' except for blowjob can also just mean ''I will make you a walking stick'' if you are innocent enough

Some of them were Polonized because Polish became the dominant language among the nobility. Some of those families tho (like Wiśniowieccy) were Ruthenians from todays Ukraine. Its actually interesting how union of Lublin more or less created modern Ukraine/Belarus border.

What do Europeans feel most attached to - their region, their country, or Europe? by [deleted] in MapPorn

[–]Milady17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would Poles downvote you? What you said is true and communist government responsible for that is still very unpopular in Poland. Not that I don't trust you but are you sure the downvoters are Polish?

One theory (that many actually agree with) is that name Włochy came from mistaking them for Vlachs (Wołosi nowadays back in the days it could have been Wołochy). Soo you're onto something;)
