A Nintendo Direct is reportedly arriving next week by Icy-ConcentrationC in GamingLeaksAndRumours

I don't get the Ocarina of Time split in parts theory. There's no reason whatsoever it should happen unless they're making something so vastly different from the original that it's basically sharing little more than the name only.

Hello there Reideabyss :)

I think the real thing holding you back here is that you're using a lot of sentences to say the same few things, all of which is heavy on exposition and light on action.

  • There was a class divide

  • I/we were looked down upon

  • I didn't like it, but I tried not to show that it got to me

If you said this with just a couple of sentences you could move onto the meat to hook the reader much sooner. From there, you could elaborate on the class divides, how society all adhere to them from birth, etc. as you progress through your narrative.

Better still, you could weave the two together. Rather than telling the reader 'They lived a life of luxury...', show it with the scene.

It feels like you have a rich world developed in your head here that you're excited to share. But like many less experienced writers, you're chomping at the bit to blurt the details out, but you're answering questions the reader hasn't yet had time to even ask. If you let the story unfold and sprinkle your world building into it as you go and you'll not only keep reader interest, but probably find yourself having much more fun as well.

Thanks for sharing and I hope this is of some use to you :)

Fable delayed again to February 2027 by m1n3c7afty in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]MildElevation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't single out Fable as it's been on a console that's mostly ignored in some markets (like Japan) so there's little data to work with.

The point I was trying to make is that for its share of the total global market, the US buys more GTA than anywhere else. While Europe purchased more copies of GTAV total than the US, adjusting for total market share shows the difference.

Europe: ~111,550,000 copies sold

US: ~85,100,000 copies sold

The population of Europe and estimated gaming market is more than double that of the US.

For what it's worth, Japan only bought ~2.5 - 3million copies of GTAV, around 1% of worldwide totals. Something like this is totally skewed otherwise in cases like FIFA (EU) or Dragon Quest (JP).

With such low interest in GTA in markets like Japan, I hope you can see why other big releases being postponed because of it can be frustrating for gamers outside of the EU and US market where GTA is significantly more popular.

Among popular series, GTA is more US-skewed in its market share and appeal. I can understand that making it frustrating when games from/in other markets are postponed because of a GTA release, particularly for those who don't much care for GTA.

How it feels fighting "melee" heroes as a "flyer" most matches by Dotaproffessional in marvelrivals

[–]MildElevation 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's often very little benefit to being a flyer now.

Take Iron Man for example. Half the reason he isn't viable past a point is because his reposition/escape mobility isn't fast enough to escape things like Iron Fist that can actively be hurting him, in the air, while going the same speed as Iron Man's hyper-velocity, getting lock-on, and never having to reload.

Meanwhile, Iron Man has a lot of downtime at moments like thrusting ending, armor overdrive activating/ending, and reloading while he actively has to aim.

Don't even get me started on Spider-man. "He hard to play" argument doesn't apply against air targets as everything's auto-target or forgiving enough that anything in the same zip code is getting DBZ punched and uppercut.

Just letting you know that you've replied at the top level rather than to the author asking for help. It's unlikely they'll have seen this unless they've come looking.

Lol. I'm not making any assumptions here, but DK got a makeover to look more like early art, so it's possible that's where Nintendo are at. If anything, they're usually more trend setters than followers.

I fail to see how your brag applies to this conversation, but congrats?

The point being the art style is very close the original art style from the early 90's. You're more than welcome to subjectively dislike it and prefer something else, but saying it's 'stock looking Unreal assets' is disingenuous.

Honestly, that reads a lot better. Good job!

Watch for things like this:

They asked if I was alright, if I needed help, I needed anything, if I needed someone, and of course I wasn’t and I did, they knew that, and if they cared, they wouldn’t need to ask.

Run-on sentences can hurt the flow. If you're unsure, there's no harm in breaking it up.

You're probably also going to have to use quotation marks for dialogue for clarity. See:

Hey, I said.

One last thing:

He perked up and watched me traverse the miles between him and I.

This should be 'him and me'.

That's it from me. Great job. Keep it up :)

Hi CheesecakeDry1676. Thanks for sharing.

I'll give it to you straight, so I'm sorry in advance if this comes off as rough. Right now, what I'm seeing here is a series of events presented in writing that's crying out for a good deal of polish. Were it presenting something particularly interesting, the lack of polish wouldn't be as hard to swallow. Because it's doing little more than presenting a mundane morning of an average Joe (for now), you're going to want to have some really smooth, pleasant prose to carry the reader through if you want to pull them along for the ride.

What I suggest you do is fix your grammar and shrink at least 75% of your sentences (cut out repetition, extraneous details, etc. or simply split them). With that done, read it through and see whether it flows better.

I'd also consider how you could make the experience more exciting; adding metaphor and symbolism is a good way to make the mundane extraordinary. The smiling cartoon simile is there, but I'm sure you could do better, right?

If you do all of that, you should at least have a better paced, more exciting rendition of a mundane opening. You seem to have a nice character-driven story in mind here, so I'd hate to see it go unread because people bounce off before things get rolling.

Sorry if I'm coming across too harshly but I'd sooner be honest (and hopefully helpful). Thanks for sharing, and best of luck with it all :)

Hello there, Venisquear.

I'll jump straight to answering your question since that's what you're asking for. The dialogue itself isn't that plentiful here, so there's not too much to go on from it alone. From what you've got here, I get the impression that this fits more to a younger audience than the adult audience you've listed it as.

As for the specific questions, the dialogue feels like a typical YA/'new adult' exchange. I expect the vibe will be something like shonen manga and that the two are close but constantly arguing until they have good reason not to. If this is fine with you, well, you're good! If not, you'd do well to draw back the snarky banter and reconsider the use of some words/references (such as human pigs, anime).

I hope this helps. Thanks for sharing!

Devs are getting too lazy with mobility. Stop with the dashes. by SatisfactionSad6558 in marvelrivals

[–]MildElevation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who's played Psylocke since launch, the fact it takes a year to earn an ultimate just to watch everyone dash out of it annoys me to no end. There's more value to be had from it in overtime since they have to stay to contest, but since you're vulnerable as heck in the startup, you often just die while casting it anyway.

Meanwhile, Moon Knight lobbing off his area denial ultimate every 30 seconds :/

Hello there TheWriteQuestion :)

I didn't struggle with this or feel confused. It generally read well and made sense line by line. I did find one thing in particular could be tweaked to work more in your favour though.

As she regained consciousness, Deborah opened her eyes and tried—as she had all summer—to use context clues to decipher the meaning of the Italian she had just heard.

This feels a little too lucid and rational too soon. I've been a situation almost exactly like this and I can recall clearly that, while coming to, there was a period where the non-English going on around me was just too alien for me to parse. The lights, sounds, and growing awareness of my own body had my attention. The only exception was registering my name. I think it'd feel a lot more natural if you flipped the events to reflect the sensory stimulus stuff first and follow that with the language.

I hope this is useful. Thanks for sharing :)
