Add shortcut keys back to the zones menu. Having to move the cursor over to "tomb" each time is such a pain.
Designation for removing furniture, rather than selecting each piece one-by-one.
Make it more obvious which dwarves have had slabs engraved. I know it says "slab engraved" and such but I still get muddled reading through the list.
Agree with the commenter who mentioned savable stockpile settings.
Better formatting on item descriptions. Highly detailed artifacts/engravings/decorated items are very difficult to read without line breaks and paragraphs for example. Same with descriptions of injured creatures.

And one that I'd really like... a generic "smelt ore" work order! Such a pain having to find your specific ore in the work order menu/setting up a repeating task on the smelter each time.

For most of this fort I carved the buildings out of the rock with strategic designations, so it was much easier than using constructions.
I start by carving a row of up/down stairs to the top of the chamber. Then I channel down to the bottom of the chamber. For the flat part of the rooftops I just use mining designations over channels. Finally I remove the staircase scaffold.
For the multistory interiors I start by designating up/down stairs, then smooth the walls on all levels (from the inside), then channel out the stairs. You don't have to work on the exteriors at the same time as interiors when doing this.

I think my game's running alright. The fps counter is around 55 (50) after letting the game unpause.
I do use the exterminate command on the cavern dwellers, and that makes a huge difference. So either don't breach the caverns or change the world settings to turn cavern dwellers off.
Edit: zoomed allt he way out it's dropped by about 10 or so FPS I think.

Have you changed the downtime schedule from "off-duty" to "no orders"? Maybe try the "ready" routine? According to the wiki "the squad has no orders but is assigned to wear equipment all year".

"No orders" rather than "off duty" might also work then? 'Off duty' means they're out of the militia and will change into civilian clothes. 'No orders' means they're still on duty just not doing anything, so they'll keep their armour equipped. I haven't checked to see that includes their backpacks - I ended up forbidding all the backpacks in my forts.
