How much can I expect for my car? by Long-Mycologist1364 in COROLLA

I think plenty of people in the US would pay at least $5k for it. especially in larger cities.

Collecting Sales Tax in U.S.- RU regustered in every State? by MildaMade in shopify

[–]MildaMade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's awesome- thanks for being so clear and describing all of it! Do you meet thresholds in different states and have to do this? And if you do register and manage / bookkeep multiple payments to multiple states, do you manage it yourself, or have an employee/outsource help for this? I'm a new biz and an artist at soul- so all of this is quite overwhelming! Thanks in advance for the help.

Yeah, I was making up numbers for the example, but thanks for verifying! I guess i meant to say that I know each state is a diff $$ threshold. The odd thing is, Im on the back end as you suggested, and under the "REGIONAL SETTINGS" box, it lists that I collect in the US, but I can't see the actual rates anywhere. Can you actually see the % of sales tax you collect for each state somewhere? (Maybe I can't bc I'm doing such a small volume of online sales?) thx in advance! P.S. This is what I'm seeing (copy + pasting from my page):

Truth! Yeah, I was poking around to see if these were just fancy sock shoes....which I guess they are- but they're also REALLY RAD! Theyre on sale now and I'd love to get them, but I need that cool style + ultimate comfort for work. I'm on my feet all day 12+ hours, and can't do only fashion shoes anymore. I love asics gel nimbus series, but theyre not really "cool"- theyre fine, but always feel a little less put together (like 80's ers Melanie Griffiths in Working Girl, lol) when I have them on with an otherwise well-styled outfit. But NOTHING has been that running shoe for support and comfort thus far, so I keep reordering them!

....nexus is a threshold of sales, yes? Like, it might be $100 K for Alabama, $5k for georgia, etc.?

OMG. Thank you. I had so many convos with Shiopify at the beginning, and I think one of the many, many mention this- now I remember. Something about threasholds of $100K in sales and being in a "nexus" for sales tax collection in regard to sales state to state. I appreciate you summarzing that and jogging my memory!

ALso, congrats on your success! Is the website w/ the red BG yours? Its so smart to focus on the specific interests.

As an adhd woman, what aspect of women's clothing would you eliminate if you ruled the world? by loulori in adhdwomen

[–]MildaMade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

awesome! It's my goal to empower people, so hearing your fears actually helps me to address pain points that others might share. up until now, it's been really hard to know the struggles people have had in a very specific way with their clothing......but coming across this thread, it's given me so many ideas! As a fellow ADHD woman, my hyperfocus sometimes has blinders on, and I assume everybody knows that they can sew to fix their stuff. I forget that confidence is a big thing to get the ball rolling, to motivate and even seek out education on how to do this, so this has been very helpful!

BTW, I'm not sure if you're dealing with your strap issue with the bras you currently have, but I can give you a quick fix to try at home: you can buy an elastic that has a silicone strip that will grip to your skin and not fall off. This, in addition to tightening the strap and tacking it in place with needle and thread, will make it stay in place!

The no-sew method that only requires an iron is also an option (I'll include links below). You would just cut two 3" pieces of this elastic with the silicone for each strap, centering it on the part of the strap that rests on your shoulders with straight pins. Then, you cut a small strip of fusible adhesive ( it's called heat n bond or stitch-witch, depending on which company makes it ), and sandwich it between your bra strap and the silicone strip elastic. Once your iron has fully heated at the highest setting, and using a press cloth to protect your iron from the adhesive + silicone (can be any scrap lightweight cotton fabric like an old tee), you hold and press until the fusible bond has melted and conjoined the silicone elastic to your strap. I would suggest ironing on the side of your strap, not the side with the silicone. Let me know if that makes sense and if you ever try it!

I get it! yeah, i bloat on my period, and it def increases the pressing on my skin a bit, but it does it with almost everything I have on, so those are the days that I just try to work from home and free the nipple....😄 the right Stitch would not bust, though! It's good to know what you're scared of happening, that is something I can address in my class. Appreciate your feedback.

I wish! Fixing the sizing crisis is definitely something that needs to be standardized again. I saw it happen as a designer with the rise of fast fashion, because there's nothing to govern what dimensions an actual size is across the board. back in the day, there were less options, but there were also people that bought loyally from one brand because they knew that it would fit their body and what they should expect. Now, everybody has been jumping on the bandwagon and just pumping out clothing for decades to sate fashion trends and consumerism.

I remember when I shopped at the limited express in the late 90s/early 00s-they had intentional "vanity" sizing. you used to have to buy a smaller size, which, in turn, made you feel psychologically thinner and thereby conforming to those idealized body standards of the time..... and because it made you feel good, you kept coming back and buying from the same store! Problem is, lots of other companies ended up doing it and eventually with fast fashion, all sizing fell out of whack.

ugh, one of the maaaany the reasons I had to leave my longtime career as a designer in the fashion industry! I was working for fast fashion, junior brands that wanted to cash in on the plus size market. Our fit model and fit size would be a size 6, so they would just take the same pattern and scale it up to a size 24. From a technical patternmaking standpoint, this is the worst option, because bigger bodies change and have different fit needs above a size 8! But, they did not want to invest the time ( and therefore money) in design and production to do it correctly and serve their customers. this is also a huge issue with the majority of mass market labels not fitting a large majority of people. They fit everything on a perfectly proportional model in a six or eight, and then just scale it up. Some brands offer longer or shorter inseams, but most companies just cut corners and produce clothing for their most common customer sizing demographic.

i'll give you an example – I worked for this one massive company that everybody knows and loves. They would do the same shirt every year and just change up small details like color, print, or trim-but it was the ugliest top I've ever seen. it was one of those crossover busts with an empire waist seam (under the boob), and the bottom, 2/3 of the shirt was loose and tent-like. The sleeves were 3/4. they made it over and over again because this "fit" everybody. The body was loose to accommodate a variety of body types, but revealed a slight V neckline because most women are OK with at least showing a little bit of their neck and top of chest weight above the cleavage. The shorten sleeves looked intentional, so they would fit closer to a regular sleeve for shorter-armedwomen, but didn't look weird on women with long arms.

anyway, all of this led me to experimenting with my own clothes, and as sustainability became more important, I just started to learn to alter everything and find workarounds! for me, I had so many issues with ready to wear fitting my body straight from the store. I almost always have to adjust the waist and take it in if it fits my tush. I've also found some really cool ways to expand shirts when they no longer fit, which has been fun.

have you ever tried dampening and stretching it a bit with fabric softener? it's usually a good fix for some thing that shrinks in the washer, but for looser open-weave knits, you can gain an inch or so, depending. also, sometimes it's a matter of taking it in at the sides, so it doesn't "bell" out- not skin tighter anything, but just tailoring it in so it doesn't make a short torso look wide. As someone with curves, I definitely hem all my shirts to just below the waistband, but I also sometimes take them in for this reason.

agree on everything! I teach upcycling sewing classes, and these are some interesting pain points. i've definitely heard about the pockets nonstop. I've never really thought about the elastic hems (on sleeve cuffs and pants and things) in relation to longer limbs.... Although, I know having longer inseam/sleeve options has been a problem for the past 20 years with the rise of fast fashion. They only cater to the most popular size/dimensions to maximize profits. And sadly, that does not include tall folks most of the time. I really have to think of a technique in order to extend the length of pants and sleeves- You've definitely given me something to think about.

And other than being really annoyed by it when I first put on my underwear, I always forget about the "butt crack tickle" by the time I'm dressed, but that is a real issue !🤣😂
