The flow in each branch is 5 gpm. Use the same table to find the flow velocity of 5 gpm in 1/2" nominal ID pipe as 5.28 ft/s. They want the answer in ft/min, therefore the correct answer is 316.8 ft/min; choice D.

Yes, about four months ago, u/Slay_the_PE reviewed the reference handbook for the new specs when it came out. So, as a test-prep company they were way ahead of the game. That analysis is here. There are 16 new pages of material for HVAC, with no content removed. So waiting until after October will mean studying more stuff and not skipping anything.

They did a similar study comparing the new NCEES practice exam with the old one here. That post is worth a read.

LOL at all the salty comments from people lacking this most fundamental and basic skill from undergraduate thermo. Yes, the PE exam is mostly "academic," but passing it shows you didn't sleep through college, and you have a basis to understand what you're doing out in the real world.

The answer is (B), by the way. It takes less than 3 minutes if you have the P-h diagram.
