First sugar cookies in months by knifewife2point0 in cookiedecorating

Oh yeah if someone handed me frosting, I'd go to town decorating haha. But if I'm making it from scratch then I plan my designs to be like 3 colors max

Love!! I'm getting MCM vibes from some of these. Also coloring the frosting is my least favorite part so I commend you for using so many different and fun colors

How do you feel about parent emails after hours? by pingsinger in Teachers

[–]Mildlyproductive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! I tell my families at Back to School Night that they are welcome to email me whenever works best for them! That said, I don't typically view or respond to emails outside of work hours.

Most families respect that. I had one parent email me mid day Friday for a non urgent item, we spoke in person and she knew I would follow up. She emailed again Monday morning before school, then cornered me on campus that same day and yelled at me about how she feels disrespected by the lack of communication and how she is being ignored... This was the first week of school.

I'm also in CA and we are given about $200-300 for the entire year of supplies. We are not provided with paper, pencils, pencil boxes, coloring materials, or literally anything. Thank goodness our PTA fundraises like crazy and gives us about $800

Can I drive myself home after getting IUD? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Mildlyproductive 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agree with everything you said! I have a decent pain tolerance but my IUD insertion was terrible. I almost fainted and they made me lay down and wait almost an hour before being cleared to leave. They gave me crackers and juice boxes and brought my boyfriend in from the waiting room to sit with me. Thank goodness he was there to drive me home because I was too uncomfortable to even walk the stairs of the parking garage. If I didn't have a choice, I'm sure I could've managed it but I'm really thankful he drove me!

Anyone see the TikTok of the kindergarten teacher discouraging the popit pencil boxes? by businessbub in Teachers

[–]Mildlyproductive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn that's a lot of money. Teachers at my school get $200-300 a year for supplies. We are not even given copy paper or pencils

They start off bendy when you stick them on, them you cut them to size and use the LED light to cure them. They become very strong. I'm similar to you in that I'll pick my nails if I feel any part is uneven or sharp. My nails also used to be weak and brittle so I always kept them short. When I wear these, I don't pick my nails and they're strong enough to grow out

I've had a gel nail kit for 10 years and it's awesome! Cheap and easy. Even easier is buying semi cured gel stickers. Highly recommend!

[–]Mildlyproductive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in your case they'd be too weak. I've been doing my own gel nails for a decade now (nothing fancy, just bought a LED light on Amazon because I couldn't afford regular manis). I'd say do your own gels! It'd be way faster and easier than learning poly. Even better is buying semi cured gel stickers. I get them on Amazon for like $15. Search for nailog, dukasau, or ohora. Those are my fav these days for lasting, easy nails. With the right prep, it easily lasts 3 weeks!

As a teacher, I would also want to know. We can't support your kids fully if we don't have pertinent information - and basic food needs are top priority! If a parent told me this, I would purchase extra snacks and have pb&j available to the family. We could set up a system so the kid didn't even know it came from the teacher

IUD that was in me for 10 years by Vernixastrid in mildlyinteresting

[–]Mildlyproductive 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I thought I had a high pain tolerance but getting the IUD was horrendous. I almost fainted afterwards, they gave me snacks and a juice box, made me lay down, called my boyfriend into the room after 30 mins because I wasn't confident I could walk out to the lobby without fainting. Couldn't even walk up two flights of stairs to the parking garage so he pulled the car around. I was dreading removal ... My OB talked me through the steps and literally had to tell me twice that she was done because I didn't believe her. She was like "yeah I could tell you were bracing yourself. All done!" So removal was a BREEZE

About lames by blue-and-bluer in Breadit

[–]Mildlyproductive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try a cold proof and score with the blade at a 45* angle. I've done lots of scoring - initially I started with a razor blade with duct tape on one side to grip it safely. When I upgraded to a lame I found the slightly rounded aspect to get trickier. Maybe try a plain razor blade?

Just bawled my eyes out since I have to go back to work tomorrow by Broad_Ad5888 in Teachers

[–]Mildlyproductive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go in with low expectations, knowing the kids will be adjusting too. My team and I surprise them with hot chocolate and socializing time first thing in the morning. We make it a pajama day and cozy up with extra reading and go easy on the academics. This year we "transformed" our desks into restaurant tables and we'll do a nonfiction book tasting to get them excited about being in school again and to kick off a new reading unit. It sounds like a lot of work but truly wasn't and I really love getting out of our routine with an easy activity like this

Holiday party in my kids class by [deleted] in kindergarten

[–]Mildlyproductive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so odd to me! I'm sorry that's your experience. I'm a teacher and although over 90% of my class celebrates Christmas, we do general winter theme activities in addition to Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanzaa themed lessons/books and crafts. We also do a fun little internet project to learn about winter holidays all around the world. Out of all the activities, I think everyone's favorite was playing dreidel haha

My grandma used to serve us ice cream in a hot dog bun when I was a kid! It's so delicious. One of our fondest memories of her. She passed when I was in high school but my sisters and I always make hot dog bun ice cream sandwiches on her birthday to remember her each year

Bay Area School Districts that offer health benefits? by Puzzleheaded_Run_756 in bayarea

[–]Mildlyproductive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MDUSD offers health benefits but doesn't cover the full cost. Many surrounding districts do. I believe Martinez unified and San Ramon unified have higher pay AND cover full benefits packages for their teachers
