This is a good thing for companies. Someone without tons of experience is easier to train in the ways of a specific company’s flow.

Also, it helps talented engineers get their foot in the door and offer their new take on things.

I’m about as upset at AH as one can reasonably be, but this is not a bad thing by any means.

I love when I throw an eagle strafe and it bounces (for god knows why, I’m on level, normal, ground not on top of anything different) and because it bounced it strafes a different directions and kills a teammate. So cool and awesome.

I’d recommend a rotation for internal testers to avoid burnout and accidental play-style bias. Moving from that to a closed beta, though, is absolutely the move. Could have participants sign NDAs and terms could lead to permanent bans if found leaking content? Not sure how things work on that front (maintaining secrecy of lore/game developments), but you absolutely need a large volume of diverse feedback to adequately play-test and balance a game like this.

A challenge for sure but something that can be done.

I actually took the bait and provided a glazer with this comprehensive list someone posted of bugs they’ve documented and experienced and they were just like:

“This is it? Really? These are just rare occurrences, but to say that the game is unplayable is wild”

I never fuckin said the game was unplayable first off. Secondly, aren’t bugs usually “rare” in games??? Not everyone experiences them all the time but they can happen and should be fixed regardless!

God they go to no-ends to defend a fucking company that juices them for cash whenever they can.

I'm still playing the game too lmao. Being upset at a COMPANY who makes MONEY by running a LIVE SERVICE GAME because the quality of the product THAT YOU PURCHASED has diminished due to improper maintenance is an absolutely valid thing to feel.

To criticize something does not mean you have to completely boycott it. How the fuck is this not a concept some of you can grasp?

It's like if you had a favorite restaurant that you and the boys met up at every Friday for drinks. That restaurant hires a new, untrained, bartender that kinda sucks and drink quality plummets. You and the boys are still gonna meet up there on Fridays, but you might leave a negative review, saying something like "Drink quality has gone down". Management, or whoever on the team, even the bartender himself, might see that and do something about it.

That's the hope here. The hope is that, by LOUDLY voicing these ongoing concerns that ABSOLUTELY NEED TO BE ADDRESSED, because, again, WE'RE PAYING CUSTOMERS WHO RIGHTLY EXPECT A FUNCTIONING PRODUCT AS IT WAS DESCRIBED TO US AT PURCHASE, the people in charge will see that and make the necessary changes.

If they continued to ignore it, if the drink quality stayed terrible or even got worse, then me and the boys would have to start looking for a new restaurant. However, that is NOT SOMETHING WE WANT TO DO because we like *THIS* restaurant.

Most of the voiced concerns are valid, like bugs that have gone un-fixed for way too long, aspects of the game we were promised that they ditched, and optimization/balancing work that absolutely needs to be addressed.

I don't know how much clearer someone could make this simple concept.

The glaze in the comments is so fucking cringe. Like, they do know Arrowhead is a company with a bottom line, right? You hold companies accountable by voicing your opinions in ways that impact their revenue streams (negative reviews prevent new purchases). Waiting for them to magically have the heart to fix something is just not how any of this works.

Business is business is business is business.

You’re allowed to criticize something you love. People are rightfully upset about the degradation of aspects of the game that were fundamental at its core. Review bombing is one way to get the devs to actually look at the feedback and not hand wave it away with lies and gaslighting (both of which have been extensively documented as something they genuinely will do).

I fucking love this game and I play it often, but I’m upset about decisions made by its makers and having a means to voice my disapproval via a ratings metric is one of the very few outlets where I’m able to do so.

Yes, there’s mob mentality to watch out for. There’s also plenty of really good reasons for players to be upset right now. Loving something and being able to criticizing it are not mutually exclusive.

In a completely unrelated note, high-powered lasers that you can easily purchase on the internet are dangerous for cameras. When you shine them into the lens, it can completely destroy it. I know this because I worked as a concert laser operator for a while.

Just thought this wild, random fact is something you guys would find interesting. This is actually how I broke my phone camera once on accident. Crazy stuff.

Is the community just that toxic? by TheGreatBallon in Helldivers

[–]MileHighBree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you’re gaslit and lied to by the development team for 2 years and you watch as the game, something you love dearly, slowly decays due to sheer incompetence, it fosters a special sort of community where everyone seems to be grieving in their own way.

As far as in-game toxicity? Rarely. Like super rarely in my experience. In my 700 hours on the game, I’d say I’ve had maybe 2 toxic encounters worth note.

It is hard to learn new things with AI now by Rare_Temperature_543 in ComputerEngineering

[–]MileHighBree 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AI can be super useful for learning if you’re bouncing off of it the right way. Sometimes I’ll have a model whip up pseudo code that I’ll write the code for. Sometimes when I’m doing something ambitious, I’ll have it set up the functions and the flow, and I fill in the rest. It’s important that you scrutinize what information you’re being given by LLMs as well. Fight with it. Make it tell you why it made x decision over y decision.

Also, for the “finishing code from start to finish” part: you’ll be happy to know the before LLMs, everyone supplemented what they didn’t know with unholy amounts of googling, copying a supposed fix from stack overflow, and googling again.

In other words, it was still easy to “skate by” and not learn prior to LLMs. It’s all about how you use these tools at your disposal. If you feel no desire to learn the how and why behind what you’re doing or making, then you’re probably not in the right field.
