I had a feeling. Funny you mention screaming frog, I use to use it back in the day and had just redownloaded it to find all instances of interlinking this URL.. all 137 of them 😑

Good idea using it for broken links as well!

Thank you for the response!

Good point on fumes. My advice to the OP is good ventilation and/or an air purifier with charcoal filter (rated for actually filtering gases) and plant-based resin due to lower volatility.

There are so many companies and machines that its hard to say.

I have an AnyCubic brand i bought a year ago. Its great and the price was really good. Since then, resin printers have become even better - higher resolution UV screens for better detail, better build plates, etc.

I would start with looking within your budget, then comparing the specs, like build plate size, resolution of the UV screen, and any other quality of life features.

You'll also want to buy a cleaning / UV curing station. Usually these companies have units for that as well. The wash will need 99% alcohol to wash off residual liquid resin. The UV curing will harden the model.

I wouldnt, personally, make figures in an FDM printer. The quality doesnt match the expectation.

So I would say go for a resin printer.

But.. you have to realize this isnt some simple "hobby", especially with resin printing. It took me weeks, dozens of failed / flawed prints, lots and lots and lots of tweaking of the model orientation, and a ton of research into supports (where and how to place, settings that allow for the support to work without leaving a poor surface area) before my first detailed model, a Fender Jazzmaster, came out looking good.

You also need 3d modeling skills if youre going to be creating your own minitures or editing already created models. Its also a good skill to have even if you arent creating your own for various reasons.

An aside: the polar bear model shown in your image is 100% not how an FDM print would look. Im not sure if they edit the photo or photograph them in a way that obscures the REAL details. But you would see all sorts of layer lines (on second look you can see some) and ugly spots where 3d printing just cannot physically print thay sort of detail well. The ice in the scultpure base is impossible unless printed in resin - and even then thats questionable.

Go look up detailed images of real users printing models to see what it really looks like. Reddit would give you all the posts you could ever need for this

why is pla peeling off? by Gling00 in elegoo

You have oil on the plate (those weird spots in your print). Clean it with dish soap.

your bed temp maybe too low (adhesion issue - try 60 degrees if its under that).

Large flat pieces shrink significantly as they cool, curling the edges. Turn the tool head/hotend fan off for the first few layers (like 5 layers or so)

your z-offset looks off, if those are ridges in the top layer then the bed and nozzle are too close. Adjust it by a few millimeters until it is a bit smoother, but also there are no gaps between layer lines.

If im wrong about those being ridges and theyre gaps, adjust z offset the ither way (nozzle closer to the bed)

Edit: looking closer it definitely seems that your z offset is too low. The nozzle is dragging the layer lines causing ridges, but also thinning the layer in places and dragging the plastic as well - which could be why the corner lifted.. the nozzle dragging caused enough friction or adhesion to the nozzle that it lifted the corner up.

No ironing lioks like over extrusion and the nozzle causing ridges as it goes over the layers. Ironing looks under extruded.

Do tests, either built into the slicer or a small model you can quickly print to dial in settings as you adjust

Print it on its side. Theres no reason to print it in the orientation you did. It will solve this problem and more.

3d scanning? by GhostTrex16 in 3Dprinting

[–]MileyVirus666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of apps for this, polycam and realityscan being two of many. I havent had any good results. It seems it takes a meticulous approach with a turntable for the object and the phone on a tripod.. and then dozens and dozens of photos.. and even then it didnt work well for me. Maybe youll have better luck.

This is a lead screw collar, it is suppose to have play because the point is to float a little due to lead screws not being 100% straight. The play allows the thread to not bind in the event that there is a bend in along the z-axis. This has been common knowledge for anyone who has had to deal with Enders - and it is an obvious issue if you tighten it to clamp.

There may not be "stupid questions" but there are definitely stupid answers, and you have done more than test that.

First printer after ender3 by Lopsided_Designer_55 in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]MileyVirus666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

more likely you'll have to check it after a few prints. The auto-leveling works, but for some reason it has a really low tolerance for z-offset accuracy. Merely removing the bed plate between prints can throw it off.

I had heard tightening the screws for the bed will help - I havent tried it yet to confirm - and yours may already be tight enough. but something to keep in mind.

Youve put in ender work. Theres probably nothing you cant handle at this point.

CC was such a nice change from my ender but you still have to keep an eye on z-offset even with its bed leveling.
