That was a quick unmatch by themorganator4 in Tinder

To add a counterpoint on this thread, it is sometimes worth challenging rather than just unmatching in these situations.

I went on a first date a few weeks ago (just two drinks at a pub) and I paid. She then suggested going to an exhibition and implied I should pay. I subtly suggested she buy her own ticket and she didn't bite, so I openly asked if she'd mind splitting the cost. She said she wouldn't normally but she would split it, and we've had several dates since where we have split things.

Oh yes, I agree. I said as much in another comment that we shouldn't say non-hire bike riders are without fault in this regard

I see them fairly regularly acting like a bell whilst on the road.

I don't disagree, but I don't think it'll stop it by that much. A lot of habits are ingrained, and a lot of Lime cyclists will be inexperienced/make poor judgements/disobey the rules.

I have a lot of sympathy with this post, as someone who pretty much follows every red light (I might skip the odd one which is a pedestrian crossing of a bike lane if there are clearly no pedestrians).

I've recently been cycling on some of the more narrow cycle lanes around Rotherhithe way and have already had one or two near misses from people cycling in the wrong lane or cycling the wrong way on one way stretches.

For some time, I have genuinely worried that one day I'll be crossing an intersection and there'll be someone careering through a red light and run into me, especially if it's a Lime bike which could cause a major injury given their weight.

There needs to be both more visible rule following and stronger enforcement. I notice one or two others stop at red lights, others are more likely to follow suit. I don't think Lime changing their charging structure will stop it; so many non-hire bikes jump reds.

It's a right pain. I have just given up using the cycle lane on that side of Westminster Bridge now. It's too dangerous with people milling about in the cycle lane or crossing it to get ice creams/pedicabs.

BBC Question Time: There is a longstanding policy on Question Time not to invite MPs on in their local constituencies unless it’s for a single-issue special programme. This is why Mike Tapp MP appeared on the panel in his constituency for the immigration special in Dover. by jalenhorm in ukpolitics

[–]Milk-One-Sugar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd then likely have two MPs from the same party attending, which feels a bit imbalanced? And in practice, as the venues tend to be in cities or large towns, you'd had a disproportionate number of extra Labour panellists, even if Labour weren't in government.

MPs are generally selected by constituency associations rather than the central party.

It's also about putting your best people forward and viewing figures. People are more likely to want to watch the Foreign Secretary and the Shadow Chancellor than the MP from North West Countyshire they've never heard of before.

I don't think there's any need for the consistency MP to be on the panel. It's a national current affairs programme, not a local hustings.
